The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism today released a report profiling hateful and extremist groups in Ireland.

The report, Irish Far-right Hate and Extremist Groups, details 12 far-right groups in Ireland that GPAHE identifies as embracing beliefs and activities that demean, harass, and inspire violence against people based on their identity traits including race, religion, ethnicity, language, national or social origin, caste, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Not "officially listed" as anything. The "Global Project Against Hate and Extremism" is just another NGO set up by two white American women. It is irrelevant to Ireland.

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 16:12

'officially' - as in, someone in an office made a list and put it on a website?

Amazing.

Later, I will be 'officially' declaring satsumas moribund. Press enquiries, DM me.

Nearly fell for it. Wonder if a certain group will eventually be the ONLY one thats non hate as its sooooooo inclusive.

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 17:18

It's nice of this US based whatever-it-is to take it upon themselves to police the people of Ireland. Generous of them to spend time considering issues overseas.

3timeslucky · 22/08/2022 17:23

The NWCI is retweeting this stating that the far right is on the rise in Ireland. Yep a group advocating for same sex attracted people definitely fits 🙄

May I have your assurance that you are not looking to extend this to clementines or mandarins?

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 17:59

Depends. Is it an 'easy peeler' and is this going to induce rage in any child under 7 who actually can't? How long does it last in an average fruit bowl? Can it make the journey to school and back for an entire term without losing shine and bounce-a-bility?

ResisterRex · 22/08/2022 18:07

Is this actionable? It certainly looks ill-advised.

xalo · 22/08/2022 18:08

Officially?? Haha

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 18:14

I don't know, I've asked in Morrisons but they looked at me a bit funny.

If it's Ireland, why would Morrisons know? Wouldn't SuperValu or Dunnes be nearer the mark?

IcakethereforeIam · 22/08/2022 18:43

Trangerines?

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 19:07

Cis-trus fruit.

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 19:07

From an article posted on the NWCI tweet it seems the GPAHE has been "actioned" before to the tune of over $3M.

I find myself wondering how they come up with these lists and what they actually know about any of the organisations (admitting that as an Irishwoman living in Ireland I have never even heard of a number of them).

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 22/08/2022 20:14

I'm underwhelmed by what I can read of GAPHE's methodology for their assessments or what is sufficient for them to categorise LGB Alliance as described here.

globalextremism.org/ireland/

I know it's difficult to work out who originated text first but there are multiple points of correspondence between the report summary and the wiki entry.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGB_Alliance

I've lost track of whether the Charity Commission engaged with LGB A about that tweet or what the outcome is.

Abhannmor · 22/08/2022 20:54

I saw what ya did there. You just hate Orangemen. The Irish are awful bigots!
