Like the title says really, I'm seeing it all over twitter today and I haven't got a clue what it's about.

@Hearach15 Will you 'condemn and move on'?

Juno Dawson being homophobic

Fox Fisher being homophobic.

“It doesn’t help to have the T latched on to LGB because... it muddies the waters a bit because people start to think it’s a deviant kind of thing.”

Of course, the TRAs have been having a field day with this one, their thought leader put up a poll to decide once and for all which is Allison's most 'buffoonish moment'

The racism and homophobia is staggering.

So you don't think racists and homophobes should be excluded from the GC movement? Okay....

Yes I think we would, but you just keep coming back.

It’s a minstrel trope of the bumbling, stupid, pretender who actually has food in their briefcase.

jesus. I’d never even heard of that but it’s unlikely to be a coincidence. (Because if that’s not the joke, what is the joke? )

And this reads like it was written by a teenager! Applying appropriate adjustments for TRAs, it was probably written by someone in their late twenties.

What are the routes of cultural transmission here? Presumably they aren’t sitting down to watch minstrel shows while patting themselves on the back about how enlightened they are unlike their stupid parents*?

*yes I know, they are a bit confused about the past.

It's an American style joke based on fuckwitted stereotypes.

Black men being too lazy to steal. Too stupid to work. Hispanic variants based on being illegal aliens etc.

Basically if a 'joke' about a black person refers to sleep or food it is based in American racist tropes. And Alison Bailey obviously knows this, even if the poster of the tweet did not. Her response will play well with Americans, which will upset a fair few people.

Aren’t they referencing this -

amp.knowyourmeme.com/memes/spaghetti-stories

I don’t think it is a race thing.

That idiotic meme seems a more likely reference than the Stepin Fetchit character.

BlossomsOnATree · 21/08/2022 12:06

Plus hearache have you stopped to think about why you're trying to hard to twist what AB said so as to smear her (a black lesbian) of being racist and homophobe so you can discount her as a human? Yes, it's because she cares about women's and gay people's sex-based rights, which they have in law and which they need because of the physical reality of their lives. Black people, disabled people etc presumably you think should be allowed to identify themselves and fight for their rights as a class, on the basis of their physical reality? But not females and gay people. Why's that then?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/08/2022 12:11

Yeah - the Urban Dictionary explanation makes more sense to me. It does not make much sense but it makes more sense.

Why the lemon wispa?

@Hearach15 Will you 'condemn and move on'?

Oh dear… I have been asking hearache for two threads, this will be the third if they are prepared to hold :

Peter Tatchell
Jane Fae
Nancy Kelley

to have to have the same level of purity as hearache uses for Allison Bailey and Baroness Nicholson?

I think I have asked about 10 times now.

hearache actively avoids answering.

Hypocritically, they simply cannot apply the same lens to prominent Stonewall management and supporters as they do to vilify others.

So hearache, do you hold Peter Tatchell, Jane Fae and Nancy Kelley to be accountable for their past comments and actions with the same rigour as you do these women you are demonising?

It's already been explained in the thread.

Oh, the TRAs are here trying to gaslight women over something that is AS PLAIN AS THE NOSE ON YOUR FACE.

An absolutely pathetic attempt.

An obscure 4Chan meme that fell out of popularity years ago. Yeah, right.

An obscure 4Chan meme that fell out of popularity years ago. Yeah, right.

Exactly, I don't know why they bother @ScreamingMeMe

The author was portraying Allison as a bumbling, inept pasta-loving barrister because of her skin colour and shame on anyone who thinks otherwise.

ScreamingMeMe · 21/08/2022 12:47

Even if they didn't realise the connotations at the time, they sure as shit must do now. But they're still doubling down.

As if TRAs would ever offer anyone that upset them any leeway! (They are currently going after Frances Coppola, who has been nothing but an outspoken trans ally, for using an unacceptable word.)

Hypocrisy, spite and DARVO. All in a day's work innit.

Tamworthian · 21/08/2022 12:47

Hmm it’s interesting how white women (of which I’m one) will happily weaponise ‘racism’ claims against a black woman. Who clearly hasn’t said anything racist. While JH is busy laughing at gleeful snark aimed at AB 🤷‍♀️

Meanwhile the Midnight twitter account continues because it’s probably the first time they’ve received validation from people like JH. I suspect their day in the sun will end swiftly.

This Twitter troll and the people sharing it and lolling at it are clearly trying to troll Allison, with plausible deniability, as I said.

"I recognise that all women need to know that the struggle for women’s rights is their struggle too."

You actually don't need to engage with racist and homophobic women. Just ignore them. Don't invite them anywhere. Condemn and move on.

This is rather enlightening isn’t it?

twitter.com/BluskyeAllison/status/1301500537309982721

Allison (my paraphrasing to shorten tweets, but Eresh has highlighted one of the relevant ones from the thread above ) : I will continue to work to make the rights and protections for all females stronger. Regardless of them questioning the need for it, or expressing doubts or abhorrent opinions, I want them to understand and know they are included.

Hearache : You actually don't need to engage with racist and homophobic women. Just ignore them. Don't invite them anywhere. Condemn and move on.

mmm …. Looks remarkable to see how different the approaches here. Doesn’t hearaches look familiar? Like Stonewall’s no debate, we won’t talk to you because you spoke to that other group.

And doesn’t it sound like what detransitioners have reported back from supposed trans communities where any questioning, any deviation from the absolute, is condemned and those raising issues ignored.

No wonder extreme activists want to destroy Allison’s reputation.

I understand the watermelon and fried chicken as particular US-based racial stereotypes (but I thought this was about food type and not just food in general) but the spaghetti in the briefcase has me stumped and I can't find anything on Google.

I only just remember minstrel shows.

I've googled and can't find anything.

Spaghetti in a suitcase was originally a racist trope for Italians (who weren’t considered ‘genuinely white’ ), since they’d often come back from Italy with a suitcase full of proper spaghetti.

As times moved on it seemed to become a kind of a racist comedy trope for just about any non white person. I have certainly seen clips with black people poking fun at this trope and I think the phrase was used in a rap song as well. Like a few people on here, I’d go with Allison about whether it’s been applied in a racist way towards black people.

AlisonDonut · 21/08/2022 13:06

And the reason we don't report these racist homophobic sexist attacks on here is for lurkers to see just what a racist, homophobic, sexist ideology it is.

We want this in the open, for people to make their own minds up about it.

ScreamingMeMe · 21/08/2022 13:07

ScreamingMeMe · 20/08/2022 22:47

Iirc, it was around the time of the WiSpa incident. So I can totally see how Alison saw connotations there.

Who wouldn't be at least a bit perturbed by strange objects appearing in their garden?

But yes, let's all laugh at the woman who will have faced racism and homophobia all her life . What a buffoon!

What childish, spiteful people some are showing themselves to be.

No that's not right Tiredofallthis. See above for the full story

You both just needed to read up the thread a bit!

Let's not give these horrible people any more ammunition,eh?

ScreamingMeMe · 21/08/2022 13:12

Bah that didn't quote properly Yourhairiswinterfire has explained it. To quote an old trope RTFT.

strongisland · 21/08/2022 13:29

If you don't immediately recognise that spaghettii in a suitcase is a well worn, stereotypical racist attack on black people then you've been living a very privileged life.
