Like the title says really, I'm seeing it all over twitter today and I haven't got a clue what it's about.

It's not possible to exclude people from believing in biological reality.

Not possible to exclude racists and homophobes?? Really?

So if someone walked into a GC meeting and started using racial slurs you'd say, "It's not possible to exclude people from believing in biological reality"?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/08/2022 10:32

But this is probably a derail from the OP's original discussion of the bizarrely worded attacks by some odd idiot on Twitter on Allison, Kathleen and JK Rowling. So I'll leave it there.

Hearach15 · 21/08/2022 10:28

So you don't think racists and homophobes should be excluded from the GC movement? Okay....

Is Stonewall going to exclude homophobes and misogynists any time soon? Unlikely, given that homophobia and misogyny are mission-critical to its current campaign objectives.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/08/2022 10:32

Well, quite.

Hearach15 · 21/08/2022 10:33

AB says she's okay with homophobes in the GC movement and we know this to be true because she was happy to have Baroness Nicholson at the LGB Alliance conference.

What is Allison Bailey's spaghetti briefcase?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/08/2022 10:33

3/ That doesn’t mean I have to ally myself with racists or homophobes or that I will not call out such behaviour, just that I recognise that all women need to know that the struggle for women’s rights is their struggle too.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/08/2022 10:33

Yes, hearach, I was going to continue it, because I don't think you understand it.

Cpmprehension: Basic information such as names of characters are correct but posts show little understanding of the narrative or its core meaning. Try harder. In your next attempt, do make sure that you consider the text holistically. You will find it means something quite different from your interpretation which seems to have been gleaned from a consideration of isolated and random elements within the text.

BlossomsOnATree · 21/08/2022 10:33

Something I did know and have now remembered about is that pasta is quite big in Jamaica, which is AB’s heritage I think. So maybe that’s something to do with why they went to spaghetti. But anyway.

hearache why are you repeating the same accusation over and over when it’s been explained to you what she was saying, and examples have been given of how it’s an important part of feminism that it encompasses all women? This point has been being made throughout the history of feminism - women everywhere as a sex class have important things in common and are harmed and discriminated against for the same reasons. Hence feminism existing.

could you instead of just repeating your original claim, engage with the arguments? If you don’t think they’re right, you should tackle and dismantle them explaining on a logical and meaningful basis why you think they are wrong.

"I recognise that all women need to know that the struggle for women’s rights is their struggle too."

You actually don't need to engage with racist and homophobic women. Just ignore them. Don't invite them anywhere. Condemn and move on.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/08/2022 10:34

Good grief - why is earache so determined to misrepresent Allison's words? Maybe it's age as there's a level of toddler behaviour evident? The Humpty Dumpty approach to discourse?
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less

"it’s an important part of feminism that it encompasses all women?"

As someone who has been involved in real activism I can tell you racists and homophobes are not welcome in normal movements for social change.

Where are these GC meetings and how do I get invited to one? Is Allison the one with the booking list? Or do we email in somewhere?

Just kidding, we communicate using our black cats to snek around billet-doux and get there on broomsticks.

ScreamingMeMe · 21/08/2022 10:39

Anyway what do you think about the actual subject of the thread, Hearach as I don't think you've said yet?

And yet here you are continually banging on about what a black lesbian does or doesn't do, who she invites or doesn't invite to meeting she does or doesn't own.

The racist one here is you.

BlossomsOnATree · 21/08/2022 10:43

hearache you seem to be stuck in a weird value system where you try to pin something bad on people you don’t like and that means they must be kicked out of whatever you say. But reality isnt like that. People belong to multiple categories. I don’t like racists and homophobes, at all, but I can maintain that stance and still believe that ALL women deserve to keep their sex-based rights, because feminism is about fighting for the rights of the female sex class.

And making this point is not just about saying you want to somehow “invite the bad people in”. If they’re women, they’re already in. But the point that we’re all in this together works to counter racism and homophobia. If women as a sex class embrace each other and see the importance of defending women’s rights for all women, then that helps to overcome and turn around racism and homophobia, if women see that what we have in common is much bigger and more important than our differences.

also, gender identity is enormously homophobic as it says being same-sex attracted is bad and gay people have to accept the opposite sex in their dating pool and learn to give them what they want sexually, on the opposite-sexed person’s say-so! That’s homophobic, isn’t it?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/08/2022 10:46

How about the misogynists and homophobes are kicked out of the TRA movement? Be the change you want to be, hearach.

Exactly!

BlossomsOnATree · 21/08/2022 10:56

As someone who has been involved in real activism I can tell you racists and homophobes are not welcome in normal movements for social change.

oh purlease. How old are you? Do you really not understand that there are a lot of racists and homophobes, and well as rampant misogynists, in every social justice movement? One reason for that is that they attract middle-class white people who want to be seen as good and don’t have a clue how prejudiced they are. Another is that once something is seen as “good”, bad people will hide behind it. Allison is not saying she wants homophobes and racists in her movement, she’s recognising that any category of people will contain them.

feminism is for, and about, all females. Some of those females might have views that make them prejudiced against Allison Bailey. She is saying that nonetheless, if they are women they need to look out for their rights.

But look at stonewall and the gender identity movement. It has worked to normalise homophobia and tried to paint same-sex attraction as akin to racism. That’s appalling homophobia. It’s actual active, campaigning homophobia.

You yourself don’t seem to understand that ideally, activism is about achieving results and changing minds. It’s not meant to be about showing off how pure and morally superior you are and showing how much you can persecute those you finger as “bad”.

I googled Jamican pasta and the top result was this 'Rasta Pasta' which is probably what they are trying to associate AB with.

I wouldn't be surprised if Joanne Harris attempts to get #rastapasta trending by the end of the day as a sly, racist dig against Allison.

Hmm. You're uncharacteristically quiet when asked about the homophobes in the trans rights movement that call lesbians sexual racists and compare same-sex attraction to apartheid...

You're here right now ignoring racism directed at Allison Bailey. Instead you chose to mock her fear of male violence, ignoring the fact that she's been terrorised by thugs involved in this ''normal movement for social change'' so badly that the police put a marker on her home.

Not welcome in your ''normal movement'' my arse!

That wouldn't surprise me, she is vile

LK1972 · 21/08/2022 11:18

Please please explain more about your activism @Hearach15 :

'You actually don't need to engage with racist and homophobic women. Just ignore them. Don't invite them anywhere. Condemn and move on.'

Who else do you not need to engage with, and condemnation will suffice? Who will decide what is homophobic, racist etc, is there an official condemnation organization, an 'Ofcon' if you like?

Or does one have to always consult one's nearest trans, black, gay, disabled immigrant friend before deciding that any opinion is WORIAD?

Please educate me, oh you wonderful LGBT activist and Parliamentary process expert, on best ways to bring the populace around to your position?

LK1972 · 21/08/2022 11:24

Here is Juno Dawson calling homosexuality a 'consolation prize':

'lot of gay men out there who are gay men as a consolation prize because they couldn’t be women' www.gaystarnews.com/article/juno-dawson-gay-men-consolation-prize/

@Hearach15 Will you 'condemn and move on'?

Datun · 21/08/2022 11:27

'You actually don't need to engage with racist and homophobic women. Just ignore them. Don't invite them anywhere. Condemn and move on.'

Transactivism in a nutshell. Comply with absolutely everything we believe, or fuck off.

And it has to be like that, because what they believe changes every half an hour.

No wonder they don't get feminism. The solidarity of it confuses them.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/08/2022 11:27

I googled Jamican pasta and the top result was this 'Rasta Pasta' which is probably what they are trying to associate AB with.

I did the same (and marked a recipe for future consideration) but the link is somewhat tenuous given the stronger association with Italy.
