Like the title says really, I'm seeing it all over twitter today and I haven't got a clue what it's about.

It's actually almost funny to see people try to smear a black lesbian as racist and homophobic. Especially someone as principled, thoughtful and eloquent as Allison. I mean, it's just utterly ridiculous.

Best ignore people with poor comprehension I think. (It's either that or they're being deliberately goady and inflammatory which is against general talk guidelines)

You did:

Allison herself is the one who said that she is happy to team up with racists and homophobes.

Everything bad in the world gets blamed on trans people if you're GC. Such a paranoid, bonkers ideology.

Yeah, I can't imagine why Allison, subject to death threats and threats of sexual violence, would think that TRAs were to blame for any attack. It's a complete fucking mystery.

Indeed, not least because of the Wispa - Wi Spa connection. And didn't an observer log in to Allison's tribunal hearing with a username based on Wispa and get booted out?

Nice cropping, you dropped this bit (accidentally, I'm sure):

That doesn’t mean I condone racist or homophobic behaviour, I abhor it.

And then continues:

That doesn’t mean I have to ally myself with racists or homophobes or that I will not call out such behaviour, just that I recognise that all women need to know that the struggle for women’s rights is their struggle too.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/08/2022 21:51

So... she is merely pointing out that all woman's rights are under threat and explicitly not allying herself with racists and homophobes.

Glad we've got that cleared up.

Thanks, yourhair - I was just about to add the text from Allison's very next tweet. Either TRAs can't read or are disingenuous...

Indeed. A feminist fighting for the rights of all females whether she agrees with them or not. I thought that's what Feminism is but some people seem a bit confused by that.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/08/2022 21:56

It's akin to the Andrea Dworkin quote
"“Feminism is a political practice of fighting male supremacy in behalf of women as a class, including all the women you don't like, including all the women you don't want to be around, including all the women who used to be your best friends whom you don't want anything to do with anymore."

You don't seem to understand what she's saying. Shall I spell it out for you?

She's saying that trans ideology is a threat to all women. That includes all those women who have different political views to hers. Think of it as a variation of this quote from Andrea Dworkin:

Feminism is a political practice of fighting male supremacy in behalf of women as a class, including all the women you don't like, including all the women you don't want to be around, including all the women who used to be your best friends whom you don't want anything to do with anymore. It doesn't matter who the individual women are. They all have the same vulnerability to rape, to battery, as children to incest.

Women who are racist or homophobic are as vulnerable to this ideology as those who are not. We are all women. We are all in this together.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/08/2022 21:59

And if those women we don't like and don't want to be around also realise they need to fight male supremacy then why would that be a bad thing?

(Well, apart from the POV of male supremacists and their allies of course)

BlossomsOnATree · 20/08/2022 22:00

She's calling for racist and homophobic women to join the fight.

She's calling for all women to be aware that they stand to lose their sex-based rights. And saying that includes ALL women, even those she disagrees with, even those who attack her and are prejudiced against her.

If I say everyone should be aware of the dangers of climate change and join the struggle against it, or everyone should care about world poverty and try to end it, then yes I'm saying that to all the unsavoury, criminal and prejudiced people too. Because everyone means everyone.

The very nature of the sex class women is that it contains all women and they all stand to lose out. That's what she's saying.

TheBiologyStupid · 20/08/2022 22:00

Nicely said, Errol and OldCrone.

"It's actually almost funny to see people try to smear a black lesbian as racist and homophobic."

I never said she was racist or homophobic. I merely quoted her verbatim when she asked racists and homophobes to join her cause.

"She's calling for racist and homophobic women to join the fight."

Indeed. As the Labour party found out, an infestation of racists in a political movement is actually a huge problem that should be avoided.

picklemewalnuts · 20/08/2022 22:07

Jumpkid, you're making yourself look stupid.
You can shout all you like that the black lesbian lawyer is a homophobic racist, but she clearly towers over you ethically and intellectually.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/08/2022 22:08

Yeah sure.
She's asking all women to join the cause of women.

If you weren't trying to smear here there was no point at all to your intervention on this thread (which irrc you admitted you'd not read). So maybe stick to the subject in hand which is a nasty racist attack on Allison Bailey?

picklemewalnuts · 20/08/2022 22:09

"When she asked racists and homophobes to join her cause warned racists and homophobes that they'd lose their rights along with all women if they don't wake up and pay attention".

There we go, @Hearach15 . I've made it easier for you.

picklemewalnuts · 20/08/2022 22:09

Huh. It stole my throughlines.

BlossomsOnATree · 20/08/2022 22:11

She's calling for racist and homophobic women to join the fight.

And this is meant to be some kind of "ner ner, she's a bad person who has failed the purity spiral test, burn the witch" kind of argument-winning point? About a black lesbian? Obviously, the point she's making that even women who are her polar opposites and/or attackers are also in the sex class woman and should watch out for their rights.

As for this:
Allison herself is the one who said that she is happy to team up with racists and homophobes

Since she specifically said it's not about allying herself with them and that she would still condemn racism and homophobia, that's a ridiculously disingenuous bad take extraordinaire. Do you think people won't notice that kind of obvious twisting?

ScreamingMeMe · 20/08/2022 22:11

QueenHippolyta · 20/08/2022 16:00

Yes, that was absolutely shameful. I was quite shocked as the minstrel trope is degrading and instantly recognizable (to americans), google "Stepin Fechit" ...

But also google the great Paul Robeson a famous 1930s black US artist, activist and lawyer. That's whom admirable Allison Bailey should be compared to!

😮That's shocking.
