If you want to know why people think she is transphobic, you can read her article here which does the whole “adult human female” schtick. She is what you would call gender critical, and everyone else, transphobic.

thecritic.co.uk/women-wont-wheesht/

That’s a good article.
literally don’t know where she is transphobic? Can you quote? Thanks

PSKeyboardwarrior · 22/08/2022 16:35

Why are people just suddenly changing the meaning of words just to suit them?

She says in that article "For instance, in the Olden Days, when “woman” meant “adult human female”, everyone knew who went to which jail. As “woman” now includes people who are born male but have a sense of femininity the female prison estate became mixed sex."

So the TRAs presumably disagree that the meaning of woman used to mean AHF and has now changed? Or is she correct?

If any of them can manage to respond to this question honestly and clearly without changing my words or anyone else's words, or changing the subject, that would be a good start to civil discussion.

If anyone can actually supply the non-transphobic definition of 'woman', that'd be even better. I'm super definitely holding my breath.

It's dishonesty. I've started to see it absolutely everywhere. The complete refusal to honestly answer a question unambiguously - to actually try and get your meaning across. Instead it's linguistic sleight of hand, which is obvious to anyone trying to actually work out what anyone means.

IsItShining · 22/08/2022 16:40

'She is what you would call gender critical, and everyone else, transphobic.'

But that's just it, isn't it?

Some people are redefining words so that 'transphobic' now means to them 'anyone who thinks women are female' rather than 'anyone who hates and fears people for being transgender'.

So you may be right in a way, but the pool of 'those who think women are female' is probably much larger than your 'everyone else'.

nauticant · 22/08/2022 16:45

It's ironic to see that in the same way that trans activists want the word "woman" to be drained of meaning, they're also doing the same to the word "transphobia". I think this will one day bite them on the bum, maybe in a critical context when they have to argue what "transphobia" means, and then find they have to argue, in a court or a parliament or whatever, that it means "women being non-compliant".

IsItShining · 22/08/2022 16:50

Or even 'women being compliant about some things, but not rushing to centre males in a talk about vulvas', which is genuinely the topic of the thread.

In order to reproduce, humans have 2 types: xx chromosome, produces eggs, xy chromosome produces sperm. Names used to describe these types xx: woman, female, xy: man , male. It's very useful to have words to distinguish these types because there are a few biological differences which are quite important. It's as simple as that and I wish someone could explain why to say this is considered so hateful to trans people. I'm all for people defying gender stereotypes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/08/2022 18:26

DadJoke used to at least try to pretend to be a reasonable poster.

Knowing biological reality makes you transphobic to "everyone" who isn't posting on this thread. Citation please.

I guess you could say it's already bitten CGD Europe and Garden Court Chambers on the bum.

Artichokeleaves · 22/08/2022 19:02

Essentially at this point it just means 'heretic'.

That is such a fantastic article. Thank you for sharing and the reminder of why women are standing up for their rights, for their daughter’s rights, their granddaughter’s rights. You’ve inspired me to get a ticket to see the show, Elaine is a brave woman and her message needs to be heard by as many people as possible.

For anyone worried about whether someone or something is transphobic, here's a handy primer:

Ok so I have heard back from my complaint.

I did not even get an apology.

They are not taking any action against the member of staff despite multiple reports of abuse and clear breaches of their code of conduct. They have apparently moved him to a different venue.

I am furious.

Do you feel comfortable posting the exact wording?

"Safe space" has become such a ridiculous concept but there really should be no doubt that no-one should be made to feel uncomfortable in the public space of a theatre just waiting for a show to start.

What the fuck has it got to do with you?

Seriously, it has fuck all to do with men. So fuck off.

That's a poor customer service policy from the managing company of the venue. I know it's Scotland but I'm surprised that is legal.

I just posted on the Sadowitz thread re: the language in the two Pleasance statements and it’s seeming origin in American Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training (the sort of wally-ish advice that got Maya Forstater’s former bosses in hot water).

would be interested to find out if the Gilded Balloon’s response contains similar buzzwords.

WanOvaryKenobi · 22/08/2022 20:31

No idea, I heard back from a director.

I will not be sitting idly on this.
