Only sold in men's sizes (6 - 12), and already mostly sold out.. Either a market tester, or any publicity is good publicity?

MalteserGeezee · 09/08/2022 12:28

I'm okay with this. Isn't the point that men and women can wear anything, because the idea that heels are only for women is quite gender stereotyped?

Would be different if this was advertised or classified through the search index specifically as a woman's boot, but I don't think it is.

Not sure I gain much insight on how it will look on me from seeing it worn by a male model (eg, cut, calf height) but I can't get too worked up about this.

SapphosRock · 09/08/2022 12:28

Presumably because they go up to UK size 12?

Nothing wrong with this advert, and nothing wrong with men wearing heeled boots if that's what they like.

Not sure what the problem is?

Roundaboot · 09/08/2022 12:30

They're selling heeled boots for men...any reason why they shouldn't be?

FOJN · 09/08/2022 12:31

Available in UK sizes 6 - 12 with sizes 8,9,11,12 being out of stock. ASOS look to be selling heeled boots in larger sizes. It's interesting that they didn't include the head of the man modelling the boots.

wonderstuff · 09/08/2022 12:31

Don’t see any issues with this?

Summerhillsquare · 09/08/2022 12:31

The more the merrier IMO. High heels for men, dungarees for women, wear what you like, doesn't change your sex.

BrimFullOfAsher · 09/08/2022 12:32

Sorry OP, but what's your issue?

They are size 6 upwards ie what is generally 'mens' sizes.

OnlyEverAutumn · 09/08/2022 12:33

@CompleteGinasaur ”mens sizes”?!? I have size 9 feet but thank you 🙄

Afterfire · 09/08/2022 12:34

Boots in mens sizes …. With heels. Does it matter?? The whole point is that anyone should be able to wear anything they like. Clothes are not gender specific.

RicherThanYew · 09/08/2022 12:34

That is not an outfit. That is 3 garments from 3 different outfits. Could they not have put the man in a more well thought out style?

Afterfire · 09/08/2022 12:34

Apologies for using “mens sizes” - I should have said larger sizes.

minipie · 09/08/2022 12:36

I agree with the PPs. Yes it’s a bit of band wagon jumping by ASOS but I actually think it’s very helpful to see gender non conformity without it having to be full drag or pretending the wearer is a woman just because they like skirts and heels.

Narrow stereotyped clothing is part of what got us into this mess IMO, so the more we can get away from that the better.

BettyFilous · 09/08/2022 12:37

And plenty of women at size 9+ who aren’t catered for by retailers. I’d hazard a guess lots of the 8s, 9s and 10s were bought by women.

Pithy and true.

BaronessBomburst · 09/08/2022 12:38

That actually made me laugh.
To me that's gender-bending from the good old days when you wore what you liked but knew that your sex was the one you were born with.

TheBermudaTriangle · 09/08/2022 12:41

Genuinely don't care about this. They look quite cool.

I would draw the line at a male putting on his nice heeled boots and thinking they magically made him a female. Oh, together with that ridiculous "being a woman is a feeling" shit they trot out.

CompleteGinasaur · 09/08/2022 12:41

OnlyEverAutumn · 09/08/2022 12:33

Sorry, OnlyEverAutumn, it was a lazy generalisation (size 7 myself) - point was obviously about their target market, but I apologise for metaphorically footbinding!

Summerhillsquare · 09/08/2022 12:51

Why thank you @CrossCrossPurposes. What I always aim for.

OnlyEverAutumn · 09/08/2022 13:03

@CompleteGinasaur thank you 🥰

Not being able to buy decent shoes for women in larger sizes is something I’ve been driven mad by all my adult life, so I’m not going to get upset about this offering from ASOS!

Somanysocks · 09/08/2022 13:08

The problem, I think the Op is saying, is that he hasn't shaved his legs. 😄

helpfulperson · 09/08/2022 13:11

Agree that is good because it reinforces the message that any clothes can be worn by anyone without changing gender. And I quite like the whole look as well.

Deliriumoftheendless · 09/08/2022 13:12

£72 for ankle boots?!

Lilithslove · 09/08/2022 13:13

Are we not be in favour of anyone being able to wear what they want? Are you equally angry that they sell trousers and flat shoes for women as we should be wearing stilettos and dresses only?

puffyisgood · 09/08/2022 13:15

men can wear whatever they like, without exception, in my book, as can big-footed women.
