So should I be worried if a young man starts to bleed? It's normal right?
When will our son's start their periods?

Or perhaps just refer to 'women and girls' ?

The second paragraph was intended to convey how ridiculous the whole thing is. Sarcasm doesn't always come over well in typescript.

saveforthat · 09/08/2022 10:44

I always think of the 1970s Alice Cooper song "Only Women Bleed"when I read this, specifically Julie Coventon's cover version. I wish someone would re release it.

HooverIsAlwaysBroken · 09/08/2022 10:45

I am trying to understand what “female anatomy” is? I thought transwomen considered themselves female?

I am also wondering when to see a doctor if my children bleed / don’t start to bleed from their genitalia?

so many questions….

LK1972 · 09/08/2022 10:49

I'm now visualising 'people' bleeding all over Wales - poor Wales, why are they doing it, are they doing it on purpose? Not a nice behaviour, you should really take yourself to the hospital if you're 'bleeding all over' something.

I do think it's an interesting approach to fighting stigma - let's pretend the stigmatised demographic does not exist, problem solved, no more stigma.

Amazing how 50% of population are expected to abandon their own words to describe themselves for a benefit of very few, and not even complain Confused

MagpiePi · 09/08/2022 10:52

@Chersfrozenface

No worries!

MarshaMelrose · 09/08/2022 10:54

Personally, I think its insulting to transgender men. They know they have female biology and therefore adverts and notices about women's biology refer to them. To imply otherwise insults their intelligence.

Rosehugger · 09/08/2022 10:55

If Transwomen/Girls are Women/Girls and Transmen/Boys are Men/Boys then whey do they need to say anything other than women/girls in literature in relation to periods? Surely anything else is transphobic?

Rosehugger · 09/08/2022 10:57

Also have periods is surely not bleeding but shedding womb lining and blood? Makes me think of the revolting terms wound and gash for female genitalia.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/08/2022 11:06

I just can't quite understand how they can write "'No more hiding, covering up or awkward euphemisms, we need some straight-talking.' " on one part of that website while also at no point stating that it is women and girls who have periods.

They're talking straight apparently yet from the outside it looks like fucking zig zags and slaloms. Quick quick go left we nearly stated biological reality there chaps!

MarshaBradyo · 09/08/2022 11:08

Ludicrous

What happened to plain English and accessibility

Periods is the correct word not fudging and hiding behind the nonsensical to appease men

SnowdropsInSpring · 09/08/2022 11:14

Even 'people who menstruate' would be better (and I hate that phrase!).

I think that's partly the plan. To come up with phrases so terrible akd inaccurate that the dehumanising bullshit before becomes something we actually end up being ok with.

Iamdonewiththis · 09/08/2022 11:33

No biological male will ever have a period. Some individuals who are born female and chose to identify as trans male/gender neutral/asexual/ploy this or that/or any of the other 100? or so connotations of gender etc etc etc will/might also bleed if they still have their original female bits and haven't taken drugs to block.

The PC thing to do is erase biological women and to try not to upset the tiny minority in the category who identify as one of the other 100 genders because it would be awful and since bleed because they are still in fact female underneath the gender identity.

Anyway men don't bleed. Many women do.

35965a · 09/08/2022 11:34

People who bleed…so if you have a nosebleed shove a tampon up there. If you have bleeding from the rectum it’s OK above a tampon up there. If you get stabbed and bleed whack a sanitary towel over it.

Iamdonewiththis · 09/08/2022 11:36

"What is 'female anatomy'? Who has it?"

That would be biological females not the I want to be a female type. The ones that want to be don't have female anatomy even though some wear tampons in artificial holes - mental health is a strange one.

Yes. Very good point.

Iamdonewiththis · 09/08/2022 11:38

Perfect

"Woman just means adult human female. Its inclusive of all identities held by female people aka women."

Shame we can't just use that.

Iamdonewiththis · 09/08/2022 11:39

I pressed enter before ending..... only problem with the perfect one is many men identify as female so they might just think they are going to be getting periods - who knows?

Franca123 · 09/08/2022 11:48

Very odd English. 'Bleed' to me suggests a wound that blood is flowing from. Not a period. They've totally butchered the language. We're told all the time that there's no money yet 84k can be dropped on this virtue signalling crap? And that ambulance they'd covered in stonewall crap.

Thelnebriati · 09/08/2022 11:51

It used to be the case that if a person thought a GRC meant they would actually change sex, it was grounds to refuse one. What changed?

Franca123 · 09/08/2022 11:52

It does put you in mind of the joke the boys had at school 'what has two legs and bleeds?'. Or when they referred to women's genitals as a 'wound'. The whole thing I find really off putting and goading. But I'm just a terf so my feelings don't matter.

birdfeeders · 09/08/2022 11:56

This makes me so angry. They are falling overthemselves to trip over tongue twisters that make absolutely no sense.

PEOPLE WHO BLEED?!?!?!

What the fuck? One step away from calling us BLEEDERS.

If you are bleeding from a part of your anatomy, you need medical attention.

What is this fucking nonsense

ThickCutSteakChips · 09/08/2022 11:58

Yes, 'bleed' definitely has some misogynistic undertones doesn't it? 'Never trust anything that bleeds for several days and doesn't die' and all that.

MarshaBradyo · 09/08/2022 11:59

Birdfeeder I’m with you

Why are we still subject to this mangled anti women stupid language?

what can we do

Every time we get changes this gets forced on us again

1dayatatime · 09/08/2022 12:00

@Whatwouldscullydo

"So sick of period no longer being a dirty word but women/girl being one instead."

+++

When I was younger I always thought how terrible and barbaric it was (and is) that in certain countries menstruating women and girls were seen as dirty and a taboo topic.

Now the country I live in seems to think that the words women, girls and females are now a taboo topic. So depressing.
