So should I be worried if a young man starts to bleed? It's normal right?
When will our son's start their periods?

Anyone remember this?

Well, the wording has been changed, to an extent.

E.g. from the home page "We want to empower girls and young people that have periods as well all those around them to be period proud, so join the movement and let's normalise periods together."

bloodybrilliant.wales/

BTW, the criticism of the original material was covered on the Wales Online and
Metro websites, which astonished me, frankly.

I do wish I'd known how to archive the original Bloody Brilliant website, though. For the purposes of comparison (and derision).

Try wayback machine (archive.org). Although it has a few issues right now.

archive.ph has a copy from
August.

Ta. It does have some pages.

"Don't bleed but want to support?" has been changed to "Don't have periods but want to support?", which is better.

Also, the "Period dictionary" refers to "the female genitals" when explaining words like vagina, vulva and uterus/womb. So that's good.

However, under "Puberty" it says "When a child’s body begins to develop including growing pubic hair, boobs starting to develop, growing taller and starting your period." It would be much better as "When a girl's body begins to develop..." Children includes boys and boys don't develop boobs or start periods.

Why not say women and transmen? It is the same number of words but far clearer.

Babdoc · 14/11/2022 10:21

BuryingAcorns, transmen are women. By listing them separately you are implying that some group other than women also have periods. Which is not true.
To quote Alice Cooper: Only women bleed.

DameHelena · 14/11/2022 10:28

To be clear and fair, it does say 'women and girls'. The whole phrase is 'women, girls and people who have periods'.
I don't agree with it, BTW; 'women and girls' is obviously correct, accurate and therefore the clearest way of putting it.
They're trying to have their cake and eat it by getting in their 'non-transphobic' credentials at the same time as using 'women, girls' so they can't be accused of erasing them.

I'm all for people recognising that periods are part of the normal female life cycle and removing stigma. But personally I've never felt a desire to be "period proud" and I can't say I would welcome "support" from random men or whoever those supporters are that don't bleed.

I really think most women and girls prefer a little privacy. It feels like going from one extreme to the other.

ZeldaFighter · 14/11/2022 13:37

So, can women sue? Can we start seeing these policy writers in court to explain themselves?

Advocates for transgender people seem to have established very successfully that trans people's needs should be taken into consideration. How do women do that?

twinklystar23 · 14/11/2022 22:03

Or as people who have wombs and shed there lining mostly monthly, via a vagina !

😂

It would be really very handy if there was a word for people of the female sex category, wouldn't it. That would solve all these problems, because people would know that people of the female sex category can identify as whichever acquired gender identity they choose, but it would be a concise and clear way to address advice that is aimed at those who have periods.

If only there was a word for people of the female sex category...

Ha!
Love this.

Transgender males

You mean transwomen / transgirls? There are no drugs or surgery that can make them menstruate. Any transgender male who is bleeding from a constructed vagina needs medical advice.

See how dangerous these word games can be?

The other thread running about periods has been deleted.
These threads are ALWAYS deleted, every single time, specifically about periods.

I wonder who it is in MNHQ that believes that stating "men do not have periods"
is so damn offensive.

Someone certainly seems to think that's and outlandish statement to make apparently.

The thing is, if you follow the genderists' terminology, men do have periods. Because TMAM, to them.

(Not all transboys / transmen have testosterone administered and of those who do, all have periods for some time, and a minority continue to do so even after a year.)

Which just goes to show how confusing garbled language is.
