Just seen this posted on Facebook, no reasons were given. All the comments I had seen on previous publicity were positive.

Got a link please @SoFasrus ?

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 17:39

Thing about Xmas Trad panto is this, The Panto Dame steals the show with comic double entendre egocentric outrageous witterings all the way through. But in the end it's the overlooked heroine who takes centre stage with the one she loves. And she sings.

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 17:43

DameMaud -

Ramblingnamechanger · 01/09/2022 17:52

Nothing to do with the L part of the LBGT plus group. I really resent that we are somehow supposed to think this is wonderful and support it . Lesbian mother here. Absolutely I would never take any child to that.

DameMaud · 01/09/2022 17:53

Thanks @SoFasrus !

Katypyee · 01/09/2022 18:15

That is a shame. Hopefully it will be rescheduled. They are such a fun event to attend. No different than going to a pantomime and the ugly sisters being men dressed up as women. Good fun! Have attended one where we live. Was great. No surprises it doesn't go down here on MN though.

OldCrone · 01/09/2022 18:20

If drag queens are just like pantomime dames, they're men dressed as women for comedic effect. What does that have to do with LGBT? Why not just have clowns reading stories instead?

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 18:25

Grandmother's Storytime suits me

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 18:29

As someone said to me - the great thing about Grandmother's Story Time in libraries is this - No surprise penises

also no protests outside the library to disrupt the readings -

TheKeatingFive · 01/09/2022 17:10

But we all love panto don't we.

A) not all of us do, no

B) this is not the same as panto

But you do of course know that

How is it different?

TheKeatingFive · 01/09/2022 19:49

How is it different?

You really need that explained to you?

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 19:58

I avoid all kinks and perversions and fetishes. DQ culture merges with that world. I enjoy being a prude. Prude- shaming is endemic and just an attempt at boundary crossing. So many think that libertine and liberal are one and the same thing - they are not. DQs can go back to their usual haunts. Safeguarding of children is the priority. Men have shown they can't be trusted. Yes, I will be untoward about the possibility of paedophiles. Of course I will.

I'm neither homophobic nor intolerant, Diggity. One opinion different from yours doesn't make me homophobic and intolerant. You need to do better than throw accusations about.

Drag is sexualised entertainment. If Beyoncé turned up to do a reading in gold hot pants and spike heels, I wouldn't be thrilled either. Inclusive story time should be hosted by people with disabilities, same sex couples, people in jobs that are usually done by the opposite sex.

Panto is as far from sexualised as possible.
Sexist, oh yes!
It's clearly a joke about older women losing sexual attractiveness, becoming male, hairy, clumsy and deep voiced. The very opposite of sexualised. Post menopause women may as well be men, they are so past it.

@hotdiggetydog you've already had the difference explained to you, clearly and eloquently in my opinion. I've quoted it in case you didn't see it first time round.

Hope this helps

hotdiggetydog · 01/09/2022 20:43

What if the drag queen was CRB checked and had the act vetted by parents in advance? That way everyone's safe, everyone's happy?

Or would that be too sensible?

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 20:57

listen to the mothers. Sensible mothers find the DQSH questionable. Why do these men want to target young kiddies. It's fishy. I don't trust their motives one little bit. Throw as many libertine excuses my way as you like. Just boundary assaulting. NO. Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. Safeguarding matters. Too many men are perverts and one pervert is one too many.

Which part of
an
adult
entertainer
is so very very difficult to understand?

You are spectacularly missing the point.

The act itself "Drag Queen" is adult entertainment. From their outfits to their stage names and not to mention the misogyny! Do you think its ok for children to be exposed to adult entertainment as long as there is a CRB check?

Do you understand safeguarding children at all?

Do you honestly think the full adult routine wouldn't be scrapped for something more child appropriate?

What you are suggesting is like saying Morgan Freeman should narrate march of the penguins because he was in a violent film once, ergo he will always be that character.

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 21:44

it's all nonce-sense. No one is fooling me.

SoFasrus · 01/09/2022 21:48

Re CRB - some perverts just haven't been caught yet. For most, it is yrs before they are convicted, if ever. No to DQSH. It's perve-enabling bs. Predators will prey. Hence tough safeguarding.
