Just seen this posted on Facebook, no reasons were given. All the comments I had seen on previous publicity were positive.

Drag Queen Story Hour - postponed
OP posts:

When should we expect Pole Dancer Story Hour? I'm sure most of the dancers are lovely but they wouldn't go entertaining children dressed in that role (although could out of it) because it is very clearly adult entertainment. Drag Queens are the same, if they want to read a story as themselves or in a non sexualised role that's fine but introducing children to a character that if they look it up is NSFW is terrible practice.

For decades, it’s women in the main who have volunteered to go into schools, to hear Dc read plus read stores to them, help on school trips etc.
Silly women should have put on a wig, slapped on a ton of makeup, some stilettos and an inappropriate outfit and charged £150 an hour!

It's you that's bothered. Not the kids

And once again we see the real agenda. It is all about breaking down boundaries and the safeguarding requirements in place to protect our children.
We will always protect our children from those trying to groom them. We see you once again, and what this ideology is doing to our children.

The story time sessions that I went to with my children have always been led by local authors with actual published books. Tim Hopgood being one of my favourite.

This is the type of person who should be doing storytime sessions. Storytime should be about nurturing a love of books, not a performance of some sort or another.

Exactly how it should be. The books should be the draw that the storyteller brings to life. Drag queens in provocative clothing and clown face makeup is not suitable at all and brings nothing to encouraging literacy. Then again we know this is not the aim of dqsh.

'Cause we never stop kids when they want to do stuff we know is unsafe.
Mine were never bothered about dvd ratings, or any other age limits. I was bothered. It's called parenting.

NitroNine · 10/08/2022 23:17

The BBC don’t really seem to have understood what’s going on. Or, you know, what drag is, despite being responsible for “Drag Race” in the UK 🤨

Enough4me · 10/08/2022 23:24

Why would men who enjoy taking the p1ss out of women with sexualised outfits and routines feel driven to be around young children... what would drive men to do this?

theDudesmummy · 11/08/2022 07:27

The Guardian at it again

How do you know the kids aren't bothered? In fact, in several pictures I've seen, the children look rather nervous and unsure. But their naice middle-class parents who are so edgy, yes really, not boring middle-aged suburbanites at all, will tell them it's all okay. Safeguarding? Naice middle-class suburban Edgy, cool parents don't need to worry about that and social services are for poor people.

theDudesmummy · 11/08/2022 07:51

The comment above about "straight white men" is ridiculous. So the answer to too many straight white men is to have men dressed up as a sexualised parody of women instead? How insulting to non-drag queen gay men for example. What about showcasing more of them? You don't have to be a drag queen to be an alternative to a straight white man.

Or...women? As a PP has pointed out, for decades (I would say for centuries) women have in fact been the main group reading stories to children, and instilling a love of books and reading, without the attention-seeking fuss and hoo-ha involved here, served with a dollop of inappropriate adult entertainment.

SolasAnla · 11/08/2022 08:54

He get paid to explain the social importance of dim himbo's and dick jokes and adult entertainers.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The knowing difference between childrens panto and male adult entertainment may be a little too subtle to admit and risk yee oldie pay cheque. Thats why he ignores that drag has come from a male sexual subculture not as he twisted it the ban on female actors. I am sure his little girl will be grateful for the obliteration of the social barrier between adult entertainment and children.

Will nobody think of the Poor gay ...... the Poor Black gay ... hummm ... the jurno bloke who got his booze and earned money supporting a bloke he should not let his little girl follow in social media.

The Guardian at it again

Exactly, straight to calling women opposed to this "far right".

They need to sort the men in their own house out first before they try to smear us.

theDudesmummy · 11/08/2022 10:53

The "far right" comment was pretty out there. I had to read it twice. WTF.

IcakethereforeIam · 11/08/2022 11:04

If anyone has the time they can send a comment, of up to 300 words, to the Guardian for them to ignore.

And there we have it in a nutshell.

The stupid caps on caps off dismissive patronising bullshit at the heart of this.

“Women stop trying to protect your children from things that are inappropriate and unnecessary for them to be exposed to. Let us get at your kids and trample over the boundaries of accepted and appropriate interactions between children and adult male strangers.”

And they wonder why we’re making a fuss Hmm

The British Museum seem determined to favour DQSH - www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7982771/Outcry-parents-British-Museum-hosts-story-time-events-children-hosted-drag-queen.htmlI - article from Feb 2020

GroggyLegs · 01/09/2022 15:32

Oops, sorry.
Was just going to ask... Is that you Aida? 🤔

hotdiggetydog · 01/09/2022 16:11

But we all love panto don't we.

TheKeatingFive · 01/09/2022 17:10

But we all love panto don't we.

A) not all of us do, no

B) this is not the same as panto

But you do of course know that
