Telegraph: ‘I will not put my girls in that organisation’: How a trans crisis engulfed Girlguiding

I couldn't see this posted. It covers the "Rainbow" story, males with guns as volunteers and other recent developments in GG. On "Rainbow", one mother says:

“I really object to my child being used as a prop in this social experiment of pretending that biological males can be girls. Girlguiding is telling my daughter that something that isn’t true, is true. And to think the opposite is wrong.”

To reassure those who are shaking their heads in disbelief at the casual disregard for the safety of children, I'd like to say that in the voluntary field I'm involved in (RDA) we take safeguarding extremely seriously. I wonder if it's because horsey people are more bluntly aware of the actual reality of penises? Nobody involved with livestock is ever coy and dismissive about "what's between their legs".

And the point about safeguarding is that it works BOTH ways. It protects the vulnerable from potential abuse, and those who might be falsely accused. Should I really have to be pointing this out on a parenting website?!

Interesting! Now that Pony Club do badges, my DD will be doing them and not going near Girl Guides. I do think you're on to something; I recently bought a new horse and got a filly because we'd like to breed from her in future. Can't magically make my DD's wonder pony female, unfortunately. He's not a clownfish Grin

I'm actually getting a reasonable response from our leader who is doing everything she can to get DD to camp - possibly getting her to choose who to share with in a smaller tent. And she has asked the District Commissioner for guidance and I haven't been shouted down as a TERF.

@expandabandband probably because all of this stuff comes from HQ / the top, many of whom have never actually volunteered in a unit. 🙄 The volunteers on the ground are accutely aware of the safeguarding risks and will probably do everything they can to mitigate them.

DD has been with GG since the minute she could join Rainbows. She's older now and volunteers, she has got so much from GG. But she worries about all the things that @Artichokeleaves mentions. Atm she isn't old enough to be held responsible, but will be soon.

What seems to happen in practice is that leaders use common sense and are quietly sensible. But the problem is GG attracts a lot of young female volunteers who lack life experience and are eager to seem inclusive. One of DD's friends can't understand why shops have single sex changing rooms and thinks it's discriminatory, same girl has had pictures posted online of herself undressed without consent. Yet she still can't see the dilemma.
Scouts however, seem to have older volunteers and just seem to be more safeguarding robust in general, I wish I had started her in scouts all those years ago.
