I see a certain so-called 'campaiging lawyer' has managed to get Nick Cohen suspended because of his gender critical views.

Since going public Maugham has since been approached by a number of women raising wider concerns about GNM which are unconnected to Nick Cohen.

He said that one person, who had worked in newsrooms at other national newspapers, “spoke of how, before she had joined the Guardian she had been warned about the culture but GNM was far worse than she had expected or experienced elsewhere”.

It sounds like the issue is wider than just this one man, and practices need to change. The people who let it happen should be investigated too.

Fox-killer wouldn't give a toss about Cohen if it wasn't for his other comments. It's like that actress who got sacked from the Mandalorian - it was her refusal to play the pronouns game that marked her card for axing.

Powerful men always find ways to minimize and distract from their transgressions. Male feminists / protectors of women (whether GC or not) can be some of the worst. Shouldn't matter whether we agree with someone or not, multiple credible allegations need investigating, if true - there needs to be disciplinary action and a boot up the backside of the leadership team that would be tolerating this culture.

Quite. This is nothing to do with trans issues. Nick Cohen has allegedly been groping and harassing young female staff and freelancers for over a decade. The fact that Jolyon Maugham and perhaps some of the accusers I’m speculating as I don’t know the accusers’ stance) have views on trans people that dont align with the gender critical view is irrelevant. Unless you think that if a woman supports trans rights it doesn’t matter if she’s been harassed or assaulted.

Implication is that Maugham went after Cohen because of his gender-critical views, and seized the opportunity presented by the allegations of sexual harassment.

I don't want to be thought of as a cynic or anything, but it's almost as if Maugham cares much more about taking down a political opponent than he does about women being sexually harassed.

God, they are all hideously awful. And they both opine on the truthfulness and morality of others, including politicians,which is the most hypocritical thing about it.

Here's an archived copy, @Ereshkigalangcleg . It seems that Maugham asked women to come forward if they had worked with Nick Cohen. One of the complaints about him goes back 17 years.

What @Ereshkigalangcleg said. I find the allegations against Nick Cohen concerning and I hope they are investigated. I'm sorry that it apparently took a male lawyer tweeting about the allegations to get this investigation under way but perhaps it was happening anyway.

In related news, I really like Nick Cohen's writing and find it thought provoking even when I don't agree.

Not to deny or diminish the accusations against him, but knowing what working life was like for young women in 2001, I doubt he was the only one doing it. But it's a very good thing if the whole male culture of these workplaces gets exposed and anyone responsible faces consequences.

There have been gropey sex pest rumours about Cohen for years now. So let's see.
