Woman beaten up by rugby player in Italy

Have other people been following the story of the British couple in Italy? The male partner died suddenly in a hotel room and the female partner was taken to hospital with severe injuries. All the early reports said the police thought it was a "sex game gone wrong". That immediately set off alarm bells for me - what kind of sex game could go so badly wrong that a woman was very badly injured?

The woman is now well enough to talk and it turns out that the man violently assaulted her, injuring her very badly, including damaging her eye socket. And then he suddenly died of a heart attack.

Isn't it telling that the police's first thought to a woman having injuries so bad that she is now using a wheelchair is "sex game gone wrong"?

Ricky, your woman beating pal?

24 hours in Police Custody about five years ago there was a date rape case that had sheets covered in blood ( suspected anal rape without consent). Those sheets counted for nothing.

Thankfully he died before he could kill her and leave her children motherless

RoyalCorgi · 03/08/2022 11:32

I’ve been following this story from the beginning and thought, when it was first published, what the hell ‘sex game’ ends up with the hotel room covered in blood? What on earth led them to believe that in the first place? The officials said that, not just the press.

Yes, exactly. All the press is doing with this story, as is often the case with stories that happen abroad, is repeating what has been fed them by the authorities. To a large extent, that's all they can do in the early stages when a story emerges. Mail Online later managed through its own efforts to obtain CCTV footage.

For this latest story, Mail Online have obtained a quote from a family friend and a named lawyer, Stefano Goldstein. There's no reason to assume either of those are unreliable.

I don't know if anyone else followed another weird story recently where a British woman was raped in Crete and the local police insisted her father had done it - presumably to avoid putting off tourists by admitting that a local might be responsible. Luckily a DNA test proved the father's innocence.

Maybe before we pass judgment, let the formal enquiry pass and return the events. Basing ones opinion on the scum british media is not a wise move.

Ahh yes the mitigating circumstances bollocks.

Agree with a pp good riddance to a man no woman ever has to be frightened of again

Icecreamclassic · 03/08/2022 11:39

Where would they have got the sex game gone wrong idea from? It's not like he told them that.

When you are in an abusive toxic relationship and you have the option to leave, or take drugs and beat a woman nearly to the point of death, the second is never the right option.

As for your there are two sides to the story:
Side 1: he was an abusive violent man
Side 2: he was an abusive violent man

Literally nothing in the world can excuse him nearly beating anyone to death. Nothing.

TheVanguardSix · 03/08/2022 11:43

Sex game gone wrong in the media has much more presence now thanks to perpetrators who’ve murdered their Tinder dates and use it as their feeble excuse.
But some of you may recall the misogynistic Italian prosecutors using this same, feeble excuse with the Meredith Kercher case. And that’s years ago… before smartphones and dating apps gave killers the sex-game-gone-wrong Get Out of Jail Free card
I have spent an entire year fighting for my daughter’s justice. I will tell you something undeniably true, it’s a fucking fight with junkyard dogs and it’s traumatic as the crime itself trying to get police, lawyers, and judges to put aside their systemic misogyny. The men and the women we appeal to for justice are as bad as each other. Misogyny and victim blaming deeply stain our legal system. And it’s the language police use like, ‘Did he only touch your vagina? Did he just lick your bottom or was there more?’ that disempowers the victim.
Just
Only
Two words that automatically give the perpetrator the upper hand.
I digress.

I would have to be one hell of a twist to this story that somehow exonerates him.

Ignoring all the media bullshit.

Man and woman go into a hotel room
Man is found dead from a heat attack
Woman is found beaten so badly she is in a wheelchair and couldn't speak for a week

Barring a sudden revelation of a break in, there can't be many interpretations of the above scenario that don't lead to 'man is an abusive dickhead'

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/08/2022 12:07

When I first heard this story I thought "she's killed him in self defence". I knew it was DV related. My sympathies and best wishes to Ms. Platt who has to rebuild her body and life after being destroyed by an abuser.Flowers

I do acknowledge that people may have loved Ricky Bibey, but he was a violent batterer of women. His death is no loss.

Macbeth8 · 03/08/2022 13:30

I know the family. Think about how they feel when you write disgusting comments about a deceased person. They are a lovely family..I can vouch for that. His sister helps disadvantaged families and suppports children in High school. She was very close to him.
Isnt fair the comments that are being made..you don't know all the ins and outs.

His family is irrelevant.

This brute was responsible for his own actions. If this had been my son/brother/grandson, I would feel utterly ashamed of his behaviour, dead or not.

Haven’t you understood yet that your “apologist for male violence” stance has seriously pissed off many posters here? Do you honestly think that some posters are going to say - ah, his sister works with disadvantaged kids, he must have been a good bloke after all?

Think about how the victim's family feels as a result of that bastard's actions. His sister could be mother fucking Theresa, he did this to her. All the comments are justified. Tone deaf doesn't even begin to describe your posts @Macbeth8

My brother was a heroin addicted bank robber who spent many years in prison before being released and eventually dying of Hepatitis C induced liver cancer. Any victim of his crimes has my full support to voice their opinion about him. Despite all this, we had a good relationship and he had a good side to him. I miss him very much but he did wrong and it shouldn't be swept under the carpet because he is now deceased.

OverrunWithPigeons · 03/08/2022 13:49

@Macbeth8 So his family are nice, so what? He was a violent woman beater and it's good that there's one less of them around. No doubt you will be leading the lynch mob against his victim when she tries to rebuild her life.

Yeah, the man who killed my mum also had a lovely family. His sister and nieces are really nice people.

He's still absolute scum and I'm glad he's dead.

Could be evidence of sexual activity in the room, condom etc. I think they were both semi naked as well. Still a disgusting assumption to make.

I agree with PP. I don’t care how lovely his family are. He was an abusive monster. End of.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/08/2022 14:03

No woman enjoys being beaten so severely she’s unconscious for a week and may permanently need a wheelchair

there’s just no ‘sex game’ that leads to this. Stupid sexist crap from the police

He almost killed a woman and left her in a wheelchair.

How do his family come into this?

JingsMahBucket · 03/08/2022 14:20

@TheVanguardSix I was also going to mention the Meredith Kercher case and how the Italian police also used that excuse. That's how they roped poor Amanda Knox into several years of being held in prison while awaiting a sham trial. The Italian police have form for this.

BTW, I loathe the DM and haven't read the article. It's just that "sex game" excuse rang bells for me.

Boiledbeetle · 03/08/2022 14:22

@Macbeth8 just stop! OK! stop!

This is not the forum or post to be saying but but but what about

A man beat a women to a pulp, the only reason that woman is not dead is because the man beating her died of a heart attack whilst doing it!

His family have lost a son, brother, uncle, whatever. If they don't like the press their family member is currently getting maybe they should consider that if their family member hadn't gone back to his hotel room and beat the living daylights out of his girlfriend they would now be looking at his holiday photos.

The ONLY person responsible for the current shit show is the Ricky.

brookstar · 03/08/2022 14:22

Also, my brother was in a toxic relationship and he was violent towards his female partner. She is an awful human being but I never, ever defended my brother for what he did and I was pleased he was convicted and put in prison for DV. He deserved it.

I can't believe you are still defending him macbeth

Yes @RoyalCorgi but did you see any of the CCTV footage of them beforehand? Very unsettling.
