Woman beaten up by rugby player in Italy

Have other people been following the story of the British couple in Italy? The male partner died suddenly in a hotel room and the female partner was taken to hospital with severe injuries. All the early reports said the police thought it was a "sex game gone wrong". That immediately set off alarm bells for me - what kind of sex game could go so badly wrong that a woman was very badly injured?

The woman is now well enough to talk and it turns out that the man violently assaulted her, injuring her very badly, including damaging her eye socket. And then he suddenly died of a heart attack.

Isn't it telling that the police's first thought to a woman having injuries so bad that she is now using a wheelchair is "sex game gone wrong"?

of DFOD.

He was a Common or Garden violent man.

No sympathy for him.

RoyalCorgi · 03/08/2022 10:07

No one on the internet knows you're a dog!

I very much doubt that Macbeth8 knew Ricky Bibey, so is best ignored.

The only possible mitigation for his actions would be if an autopsy showed he was suffering from CTE from his rugby career. That wouldn’t change the fact that he beat her so badly that she needed more than one surgery and was unconscious for days.

awwbiscuits · 03/08/2022 10:21

This is awful

FrownedUpon · 03/08/2022 10:26

It’s horrendous. What an animal. Won’t be missed at all.

🙄

Macbeth seems to have gone full on - it's not nigel's fault he's the hulk, it her fault she made him angry.

Prinnny · 03/08/2022 10:32

Awful, she must have been terrified. Thank god he became unwell so she could escape.

Collidascope · 03/08/2022 10:37

I only wish karma was as swift in every case of a man beating a woman up as it was here. I remember when the story first came out and people were saying what a great guy he was - even though we knew at that point that the woman he'd been in a room with had been hospitalised with horrific injuries.

Maybe before we pass judgment, let the formal enquiry pass and return the events. Basing ones opinion on the scum british media is not a wise move.

I’ll pass judgement on any monster that puts their partner in a wheelchair, thanks.

How you do think her injuries were inflicted? Injuries that meant she couldn't speak for a week? Injuries that required multiple surgeries?

I think most people knew the reports of a sex game were bull

Did she put herself in wheelchair then?

If that is the case, then please do. However, I have first hand experienced a scum journalist posting false and inaccurate information on a very close deceased relative, after attending the open inquest.

The cornoner wrote to them to retract their lies, however, they continued to post stories, glamorising a very tragic event.

So maybe, I have a difference view of information fed by the media.

I am not saying that, I am however saying that judgement should be passed on a formal enquiry and investigation, and not information fed from a gutter media outlet.

Thelnebriati · 03/08/2022 10:49

I'm free to judge the scum media making up stories about a 'sex game gone wrong' when that 'sex game' left a women with significant injuries.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 03/08/2022 10:50

The comment sticking up for the rugby player reminded me of a story locally. A male boxer in a violent relationship ended up being stabbed by his girlfriend (she said, and I believe her, in self defense) during one of their fights. The amount of people saying what a lovely bloke he was and calling her every name under the sun made me sick.

What is NAMALT?

Not all men are like that

Even if they are like that apparently

undermilkjug · 03/08/2022 10:54

That would be great @fromdownwest if in the meantime people like Macbeth and his FB followers didn't also start with the "sex game gone wrong" and "no smoke without fire" and "fault on both sides".

Either no-one comments on the case at all (including the press) or people are completely allowed to make their own judgements based on the newspaper reports that a strong large man on drugs beat up his female partner so much that she is in a wheelchair and was unable to speak for a week because of her injuries. No-one should try and justify that.

I’m never sure what to make of comments like these.

After suffering abuse myself and hearing all of the “rational” people out there using their skills of rationalisation - invalidation, minimisation and downright denial to rationalise away the abuse I experienced it doesn’t really work for me anymore. People will excuse anything that allows them to continue live without personal discomfort. It doesn’t matter who they have to shit on to do so.

He is an abusive fucker, the police were originally completely misogynistic in their approach to the investigation.

No amount of childlike rationalisation from immature people will change that.

RoseslnTheHospital · 03/08/2022 10:56

The recent reports in Italian online newspapers report the same information eg corrierefiorentino.corriere.it/firenze/notizie/cronaca/22_agosto_02/rugbista-morto-firenze-compagna-tornata-inghilterra-fortunata-essere-noi-32e086b8-1261-11ed-bf76-0787c5bdeb11.shtml

You can use Google Translate to get a reasonable translation. It's quite clear that Jennie Platt has told the investigators that he was in a rage and beating her, whilst drunk and under the influence of cocaine. The investigators in Italy agree with that testimony. There is absolutely no reason to suggest that the victim was responsible for making this man attack her, nor any reason to suggest that the reports coming out of Italy are inaccurate or fictitious.

I fully agree with you, the reporting is sickening from start to finish. I think ongoing investigations should not be allowed in the press.
Not once have I tried to justify that, my point is that the media print lie after lie.

BruisedSkies · 03/08/2022 10:58

My first thought when I heard about this was that it was an attempted murder/suicide but that she’d ended up surviving.

The working theory was that the scratches on his arms were ‘self-defence’ after she’d scratched him when he’d tried to force her into an erotic game that she didn’t want. Which is such a fucked up way of looking at it. Even if that had have been true, the scratches on his arms would be from her defending herself against rape. it just shows what the police think of women.

FictionalCharacter · 03/08/2022 11:04

‘sex game gone wrong’ Is the latest excuse for violent men now that sexual violence has been normalised as ‘kink’ or ‘games’. It used to be ‘she drove him to it’ by being a nag/shrew/frigid and now there’s something more modern that the police and criminal justice system can use to get them off. It’s disgusting that the police are so happy to trot this out.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 03/08/2022 11:07

I’ve been following this story from the beginning and thought, when it was first published, what the hell ‘sex game’ ends up with the hotel room covered in blood? What on earth led them to believe that in the first place? The officials said that, not just the press.

As for Macbeth, sorry but wtf, “two sides to every story” you are justifying a man beating a woman to a pulp? You knew him? Well I assume you knew what a pathetic little wife-beater he was then? Thank God he had a heart attack when he did.

I relayed the news story to my OH. Allegedly, a former rugby league player (high on drugs) suffered a heart attack whilst beating a woman up. He replied 'karma'.
