Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

See if you can guess which/how many options were available for the gender and sexuality parts of an EO form I just had to fill in…

Had to fill in an equal opps form as part of the onboarding process for my new job.

Curious to see if anybody can correctly say how many and/or which options there were to choose from in the gender and sexuality parts of the form (not including “other” and “prefer not to say”).

Anyone care to venture a guess?

Gender - 74 (I googled it!)

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 02/08/2022 12:12

Bum, someone’s had 17. That’s my favourite number

primes are superior to all other numbers, obviously

StarCourt · 02/08/2022 12:18

My guess is 23

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/08/2022 12:24

Placemarking.

Gender
Man
woman
non-binary
bi-gender
genderqueer
agender
pangender
neutosis (sp. - spell check wants 'neurosis').

Sexuality
Gay
Lesbian
Queer
pansexual
asexual
Menopausal - all men look like slugs

lpsyUpsyDaisyDoo · 02/08/2022 18:08

Well, the grand total was… (drum roll please)

  1. Each. Plus Other and Prefer Not To Say.

For gender, we had-

3 Demigirl
4 Female
5 Gender nonconforming
6 Gender questioning
7 Genderqueer
8 Male
9 Nonbinary
10 Transfeminine
11 Transgender
12 Transitioning
13 Transmasculine

And for sexuality-

1 Asexual
2 Bi-curious
3 Bisexual
4 Closeted
5 Fluid
6 Gay
7 Heterosexual/Straight
8 Homosexual
9 Lesbian
10 Pansexual
11 Polyamorous
12 Queer
13 Questioning

For a serious grown up job?

FlibbertyGiblets · 02/08/2022 18:19

For crying out loud, this is the sort of thing that gives Equal opps a bad name.

Is it a civil service post?

Henddraig · 02/08/2022 18:20

What’s the point of having closeted on the form? If you tick it, you aren’t?

Skinterior · 02/08/2022 18:23

Ha - we've been invited to fill in similar at our place. I'm currently completely ignoring it but now I've read this I'm tempted to go see if our HR dept reaches similar levels of madness

RandomMess · 02/08/2022 18:25

FFS

SausagePourHomme · 02/08/2022 18:30

someone's worked very hard to get as long a list as they can

is there really a gender of 'transitioning'?

would your employer really need to know if you were 'bi-curious'?

I'm surprised they haven't got 'straight but I feel a bit funny when keeley hawes is on TV' as an option.

why would anyone give their employer this much information about their private life?

And they still managed to miss out DD's choice of sexuality, which just proves how nonsensical this is.

IcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2022 18:34

I'd have so many questions. I presume you're allowed to tick more than one box.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/08/2022 18:37

They missed out “it’s complicated”

User12398712 · 02/08/2022 18:40

You should have seen the warning signs when they involved you in an "onboarding process".

titchy · 02/08/2022 18:47

Who the fuck do they think is going to say 'closeted'? Apart from the fact that you'd need to know what they were closeted about...

Circumferences · 02/08/2022 19:26

They may as well ask for someone's star sign which would actually give more information than these absurd options

It would certainly give you a range of dates for their birth.

Assuming date of birth wasn't on the form.

And assuming that someone didn't just identify as e.g. a Libra.

"I was assigned Sagittarius at birth but I'm actually more of an Aries."

Bergamotte · 02/08/2022 19:47

Was there a question for sex, or only for gender identity?

Riapia · 02/08/2022 20:09

Was there a question for sex, or only for gender identity?

Why would sex matter.
There are far more important things to consider.

Obviously.😉😁

Anything larger than a sweet shop does "onboarding" now. It's the computer. The word comes with the software, and you don't get a choice.

BruisedSkies · 02/08/2022 20:24

What’s the difference between homosexual, gay and lesbian? Also, lol at closeted. Surely the whole thing is that you don’t want to tell anyone. So certainly wouldn’t commit it to paper, even if it was anon.

LaughingPriest · 02/08/2022 20:49

So if you're a transitioning transgender male transfeminine gender non- conforming person, which do you tick? Personally I think there needs to be choices for every combination otherwise it's unfair.

Truthlikeness · 02/08/2022 21:08

As a heteroflexible gender-atheist, I don't feel seen!!
