Here we go again: woman told she can't have a stall at a community event

From twitter:

"I’ve just been informed I am not allowed to sell soaps at a local event because of a conversation on a local board about TRA - my angle? That both sides are valid and no one is coming from a place of cruelty. How is this anything but an attack on free speech? "

Sorry, posted too soon. Second half of the message and Fiona's reply to them.

Also illegal, based on GC beliefs being protected under the Equality Act?

FemaleAndLearning · 26/07/2022 18:20

That is awful. Why would it be against LGBT?
Our local group of women were thinking of doing the community circuit next year to spread information, looks like we might have a battle.

Can you name and shame the organisation, give them a dose of their own medicine

I Googled People in the Park 2022 and it seems to be this:

That advert should say we have invited people who align with our values and do not deviate, those with alternative views I'll not be allowed.
Is there a local women's group in the area you can ask to sell on your behalf, you could hand out leaflets too!

GroggyLegs · 26/07/2022 18:37

They need to retitle the event:
'People who only express opinions that Andy completely agrees with in the Park'

I liked Fiona's reply.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 26/07/2022 18:38

So you can live as you please unless you're a woman? Many women's sports are now unisex, there are few female rape crisis centers and a woman in prison can be locked in with a male. Head has disappeared up your own arse if you think that is living as you please.

SpindleInTheWind · 26/07/2022 18:41

So you have to agree with Andy's political opinions (and they are opinions based on political ideology) in order to be able to be in the park for a completely unrelated community event?

SapphosRock · 26/07/2022 18:44

People in the Park is clearly an inclusive event and anyone rumoured to be thinking non-inclusive thoughts must be excluded.

Pluvia · 26/07/2022 18:45

Illegal under the Equality Act, possibly also Goods and Services? You wished to purchase the right to a stall and were rejected for your beliefs. I would respond to her calmly and say that she has discriminated against her for views she imagines you hold and this this is not legal.

miserablecat · 26/07/2022 18:46

I might be missing the point but surely her views are not even relevant to selling soap...Confused

SuperCamp · 26/07/2022 18:49

Good grief!

I hope all stakeholders are interviewed at length over their views on everything from Palestine to The Nordic Model via vaccinations.

She wants to sell sustainable soap, presumably to a 100% inclusive consumer base.

She isn’t going to refuse to sell soap to someone with a different approach to gender… whereas Andy is refusing to sell her the use of a stall on exactly that basis.

As a PP said, his stance against GC would seem to be discriminatory in legal terms.

Fiona should take legal advice.

Andy should take a running jump.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/07/2022 18:50

This is like the witch burning of old where the whispers spread in a community and certain people were emboldened to name the witches and burn them.

McCarthyism is growing in the UK with women being the targets.

DrDinosaur · 26/07/2022 18:50

What type of organisation are running it, would they be covered under the Equality Act? In which case I'd be sending a sternly worded solicitor's letter as they clearly admit they are discriminating against you on the grounds of your gender critical belief.
If not, I would approach the press and get them as much bad publicity as possible.

FKATondelayo · 26/07/2022 18:56

Honestly I would report him to EHRC and whatever local authority licences him to put on the event (though guessing it's Wiltshire of 'untoward to paedophiles' fame). What he is doing is illegal (counter to Equality Act protection of belief).

Your products look lovely!

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 26/07/2022 19:10

And of course, this professional woman hater has shown up with his lies and threats. Wouldn't be Twitter if a serial abuser couldn't make a buck off of misogyny, would it?

Can someone put this to Andy? It needs pointing out to certain people.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/07/2022 19:24

'Transition Salisbury'? Bit on the nose, isn't it.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/07/2022 19:31

Andy should read the paragraph starting 'One of the central themes...' and ban himself.

He's not promoting equality, he's not promoting the freedom of women to be who they want to be, and he is doing harm.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 26/07/2022 19:32

Havel's greengrocer contemplating the window sign and Solzhenitsyn would both recognise this scenario.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4382551-Live-not-by-lies-Solzhenitsyn-no-tambourines-involved?

We won't need an authoritarian government to impose parts of the Social Credit system on us, it will already be being done by Andy and similar self-appointed arbiters.

BookWorm45 · 26/07/2022 19:36

Sounds like time for us to be buying some soap directly from Fiona's website....

Agree with PPs, having looked at the People in the Park website, their focus is allegedly all about environmentally friendly items. They do not claim to have an agenda about views on sex/ gender.
