Here we go again: woman told she can't have a stall at a community event

From twitter:

"I’ve just been informed I am not allowed to sell soaps at a local event because of a conversation on a local board about TRA - my angle? That both sides are valid and no one is coming from a place of cruelty. How is this anything but an attack on free speech? "

From the last section of what they wrote to you:

"One of the central themes of the event is the
promotion of equal rights
and the freedom of people to be what they want
to be, to live in a
manner of their own choosing which does no
harm, and to love those they
wish to love. With this in mind, the event
organisers are keen to ensure
that the event is accessible to all. It is hoped
that the EMP above
reflects this desire to treat people fairly. The
organisers are always
open to ideas as how this can be improved!"

What gibberish. Where are your equal rights? It isn’t accessible to all if you are kept out. Their stance towards you does not reflect a desire to treat you fairly.
They are not presumably open to any ideas other than their own.

Your products look lovely!

Definitely. Well priced, created for sensitive skins using goat's milk and beautiful ingredients, with a version for pet dogs!

Soaps, shampoos, conditioners. Lovely stuff. I have a dermatological condition and will try these.

ScrollingLeaves · 26/07/2022 19:45

I had only read your first post, without the end of Andy’s letter or your reply.

I think your reply is excellent and fair. He is the one promoting disharmony.

By the way, I would buy your soap too.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 26/07/2022 19:55

Have you since replied OP? Is Andy local, could you go and see him? (A face to face chat might help.)

Sexnotgender · 26/07/2022 20:02

Why was my post deleted??

TheBestBitch · 26/07/2022 20:36

Ffs, more bullshit
shame on you Salisbury council

zen1 · 26/07/2022 20:50

So before you get ‘accepted’ to be a stall holder at this community event, your personal social media is scrutinised and you are granted a place only if your opinions align with those of a random committee member?

It's mental isn't it? As if most people attending would even be aware of Fiona's posts anyway. I doubt she would have brought it up in conversation either when she's serving customers. And she would have been there to sell soap, not Standing for Women merchandise!

It's a whole new level of punishment to stop someone doing something completely unrelated.

The good news is that Fiona has had a rush of orders! Women of twitter and Mumsnet have stepped up to the plate.

Mollymalone123 · 26/07/2022 21:43

I really hope the daily Mail pick up on this! Its absolutely absurd.
I get angrier every time I see this nonsense-surely he’s breaking their own community rules by not being inclusive of women who don’t buy into the bullshit propaganda that TRA’s spout or is Andy scared?

SuperCamp · 26/07/2022 21:49

I hope Salisbury Transition City have interrogated every member of their member organisations for any views that Andy might find worthy of excluding?

Get busy with your thumb screws Andy! Prepare the Gulags!

www.transitionsalisbury.org/ourmembers

Off to order a large shampoo / conditioner set as I have been meaning to try bars forever. Might buy some dog shampoo for my friends dog, too, as a little treat.

SuperCamp · 26/07/2022 21:56

Hmmm. People in the Park doesn't look the most packed and vibrant event....

Much better selling your products on MN, Fiona!

LizzieSiddal · 26/07/2022 21:56

Wtf is “Transition Salisbury”?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/07/2022 22:31

I think I'd be sending Andy a copy of this article by Peter Daly (Maya's solicitor) . Looks as if he's in need of a bit of educating about the law, beliefs that are WORIAD and how to live alongside people who don't agree with all his personal beliefs.

Justme56 · 26/07/2022 22:59

I was just about to link to Peter Daly’s article too. Start discriminating on the basis of protected beliefs is not a good look.

MsFogi · 26/07/2022 23:26

OP - is this a charity? If so I would be contacting the Trustees to tell them of your concerns about how the charity it breaching the Equality Act etc etc

MsFogi · 26/07/2022 23:28

It seems to sit under the Council - www.wiltshireclimatealliance.org.uk/about-us. I would contact their legal team.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 27/07/2022 00:30

I don't know if you've seen this but you could consider sending or quoting it as it feels like it could have written about them

I'm seeing those photos as a slideshow with a voice-over, a bit like the old 'Stooonybrudge' films. ("Ut's vud-AY-oh!") What was that called? Frank Hovis, etc.

As recommended on MN, I've googled it & it's 'Absolutely'.

Ignore me, I'll go away now.

DaughterofDawn · 27/07/2022 06:04

Funny because the about me says they are not affiliated with any party or movement. But they reply says differently in my opinion. Or they are worried that they will be considered guilty by association and even if they aren’t necessarily against the ideas they don’t want to be bothered with the bad press it could potentially mean even if OP is simply selling soap. They’re afraid of getting canceled.

That’s a terrific article.

who knew that soap could be rendered contaminated and un-sellable by naughty beliefs?

The ridiculousness of “we are completely committed to being extremely inclusive to all, and we’re going to do that by excluding you” never ceases to amaze me.

DrMorbius · 27/07/2022 10:47

Yes send Andy a copy of the Peter Daly article. You could also paraphrase the part -
CGD incorrectly viewed Maya Forstater’s gender critical beliefs as inherently in opposition to CGD’s perception of trans rights. This is the error that led CGD to take unlawful actions, and then sign off with -
See you in court Andy.
Best Regards

LK1972 · 27/07/2022 11:34

Just placed my order, very exited for my delivery, and will make it a recurring order if I like the products Smile

And if you're reading this Fiona, thank you so much for not just accepting this BS.

You did nothing wrong and are fully entitled to your very polite, and legally protected, opinions, good luck for getting a remedy on this! Flowers

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/07/2022 11:46

Fgs. People believe all sorts of things they are allowed to. I probably serve all sorts if racists and homophones and misogynists at work. As long as they behave appropriately in the building its bugger all to do with me tbh.

Same with staff they are free to believe what they like provided a basic level of professionalism and civility is maintained.

If not it would be dealt with.

How have people honestly got to the point where you have to pass all these tests which no one even knows they ate taking just to work or enter somewhere.

paisley256 · 27/07/2022 11:54

I've also placed my order, as others have said, you've done absolutely nothing wrong here and good on you for standing up to them.
