Just in case anyone wanted to ask her anything.

OP posts:

I think she did believe it, probably still does. But she wants to be leader and knows it wont go down well with the membership. So not only is she liar, she doesn't stand by her convictions. I'd respect her more if she did.

Yes, that is what I read. She was the pay master general in the cabinet office at the time of the bill and I don't know if she introduced/signed off the bill, but even if she did it seems no one has outright said that she advocated for that language being included. The civil service would have drafted in a gender neutral way in the first place following this guidance: 7a21077a.flowpaper.com/GuidetoGenderNeutralDrafting/#page=4 (which incidentally was supported by Global Butterflies which means it was always about trans rights and not equality of the sexes), so it could be that it just wasn't particularly on Penny's radar until controversy broke.

Regarding Global Butterflies it seems that it is very easy to sell yourself as an expert to civil servants. Shameful.

Unbelievably, she's STILL saying that Turkey is going to join the EU in 2016 and no one has a veto.

I think she might actually BE Boris Johnson. But as the CP Membership (as distinct from MPs) didn't want Johnson go anyway, that'll probably work out for her.

This is the transcription of 'Nic from Leicester' talking to Penny Mordaunt.

Moudant is very popular at grassroots level, apparently. Difficult to believe that people will accept the women and equalities minister saying that men are women and women are men.

maltravers · 13/07/2022 00:55

does she explicitly say where she stands on same sex spaces? Putting yourself forward as a champion for women’s rights is surely a deliberate blurring if she also says also TWAW.

The TRAs will be livid.

I very much doubt that. TRAs will be pleased and supportive that she willing to say anything to achieve her ambitions and that while misrepresenting herself remains composed and appears sincere.

LordLoveADuck · 13/07/2022 01:58

@Motorina Your letter deserves a gold star. So very impressive. Starts out all sweetness and light though sighs can be heard in how disappointed you are. Then out of nowhere right to the jugular. No beating around the bush you nail Mordaunt as a liar. Then back to all sweetness and light.Your MP won't know what hit him.I'm in awe.

Not so much the "shit sandwich" technique as the "barbed wire sandwich" one

achillestoes · 13/07/2022 07:08

I’ve actually just seen someone suggesting Penny’s brother ‘has serious words with her’.

I don’t like her but she is a front runner to be the next Prime Minister, not the downstairs maid.

The TRA movement is misogynist.

mrshoho · 13/07/2022 07:34

The 'biological woman/legal woman' that she spouts is concerning. She will need to clarify what type of woman she believes should be included in safe sex spaces. I can't trust her intentions.

Motorina · 13/07/2022 07:42

@LordLoveADuck thank you. I am a regular MP botherer.

if anyone wants to contact their own MP I really recommend the ‘they work for you’ website. Makes it dead easy.

I know two things about Mordaunt that she wouldn't want to be 'out there'. If little old me knows them then the political editors obviously know them too, and a lot more. They'll bide their time.

Any plans to drop a political editor or two a quiet message on the downlow?

PennyMordor · 13/07/2022 08:29

“Any plans to drop a political editor or two a quiet message on the downlow?”

Chatted with one last night. She’s reasonably popular with backbenchers and the party membership who don’t really know her. The editors and journalists who do know her can’t stand her.

It is said that no-one knows what she believes because she doesn’t believe anything. She is psychologically detached from convictions.

Yeah, me too. I occasionally run into him in the B&Q garden centre. He’s an OK person but party policies …

I warned him and his agent years ago about the Tavistock, when they were campaigning in the middle of our local high street.

Strange times.

Mordaunt says what she wants to be the case to suit her ends, or what she wants to have been true in the past. On the surface her persona sounds quite plummily plausible, but she frequently opens her mouth and spouts what's known in the common vernacular as 'yet another lie'.

I think she's got some sort of issue around her psychological functioning - and we really don't need another one of them.

Manderleyagain · 13/07/2022 09:29

It is said that no-one knows what she believes because she doesn’t believe anything. She is psychologically detached from convictions. That would explain this weird u turn.

I wondered if it was that she wanted to introduce laws & policies to help trans people. But currently the only way to do that (according to trans rights orgs) is by stating beliefs like trans women are women, trans people are the gender they say they are, everyone has a gender identity. These beliefs are not actually true, but currently no one is allowed to pursue better policies for trans people without claiming to believe this. So that's what she did.

Maybe she does believe it because the way she is wording things suggests she is doing it in a way that still allows twaw to be true.

I would prefer it if she said 'my position on trans rights is well known by my past endeavors' and then set out what her current policy position is, stating that she will not pursue self id if that is the case.

The big question is, of all the other policians who have pushed this - Maria Miller, Theresa may, Caroline noakes, layla the soul seer and many others - which ones will abandon and deny as soon as it's politically useful?

This is exactly how she came across in her web chat when answering the questions about the trans issue.

Floundering around trying to find an answer to the question that didn't actually contain any conviction.

It was infuriating to read. and given how much the women here know about the issue, her answers were very revealing. Or rather, her lack of answer.

She came across as utterly clueless, with answers designed to cover up that cluelessness.

IsItShining · 13/07/2022 11:13

Difficult to believe that people will accept the women and equalities minister saying that men are women and women are men.

I still think very few people know what the sentence 'trans women are women' means.
