Errrr… What happened to ‘fight the war, fuck the norm’?
RATM can fuck right off using women’s pain as little motif to help them pretend they still have subversive politics. They’re just as sexist as everyone else in music who promotes this shite but with their own little bit of extra sold-out hypocrisy on top.
Its also shit advocacy to conflate the problem of forced birth (due to being denied abortion) with the problem of disparity of safe birth between women from different ethnic backgrounds. Forced birth is an outrage because it’s forced birth. Forced birth wouldn’t be resolved as an act of violence against women and girls, if all the women and girls who were subjected to forced birth had good healthy birth outcomes, would it?
And likewise, unsafe birth is an outrage which affects all of the women and children subjected to it, whether their pregnancy is desperately wanted, or not, and the disparities in outcomes between women of different ethnic and social backgrounds are absolutely shocking.
These are also global problems but I guess RATM are only thinking about the US situation with those stats. I’m not trying to minimise the horrendous US situation at all, just that I don’t think RATM are that good at mansplaining abortion rights and the issues of systemic racism in maternity care and healthcare and public health more widely.
