Calling all environmental feminists! The Green Party is electing a new Deputy Leader & eight positions on the Executive Committee (GPEx). There are gender critical candidates for most posts, including Shahrar Ali for Deputy.
Voting will be throughout August.
If you join the party (for as little as £6.00) before 31st July, you will get a vote.

We have the chance to turn the party around - back to reality, common sense, environmental justice and for women's sex-based rights. Do join us!

Also, Green Party members and non-members can sign up to receive emails from Green Feminists. Just email [email protected]

Echo all here saying please re/join the Green Party by 31st July to help elect a leadership team that will steer the party back to welcoming women, free speech and politics based in reality. Voting opens Monday 1st August.

There are some great women in the party supporting each other to build a political home for all progressive women. To receive their voting recommendations sign up for Green Feminists emails.

GreenGretel · 31/07/2022 07:37

These are the voting recommendations I've received from Green Feminists UK: mailchi.mp/5cfd85f39c81/how-green-feminists-are-voting

If you re/join the party by 12 noon today (Sunday) you get to help bring feminism back to the team leading the party. Without these great candidates speaking up for women, science and respect for all, our beloved Greens will be dominated by gender extremists. You can join for as little as £6 a year here: join.greenparty.org.uk/

NotDonna · 31/07/2022 08:36

I’ve joined. Definitely in the politically homeless camp.

I joined to vote for Shahrar for the leadership election - we weren't successful but I did the year membership so still a member now. There's usually not many votes between things so it feels like there's a chance for common sense to prevail. Unfortunately there's also a lot of TRAs in the party.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 31/07/2022 13:14

Hooray, NotDonna!

ScreechingEchoChamber · 31/07/2022 13:15

Motions in the Spring Conference came down to a genuine handful of votes. So it really can make a huge difference. The vast majority of members don't vote or attend conference/get involved in policy etc.

NotDonna · 01/08/2022 10:15

I’m voting this morning. when are the results?

ScreechingEchoChamber · 01/08/2022 10:23

When does voting close? I wanted to watch all the hustings videos but have hardly got any time ...

NotDonna · 01/08/2022 10:26

I can’t see any voting instructions so I’ve a few questions…

  1. Do I have to rank each person 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 or can I leave some people as ‘no preference’?
  2. the Green Women suggest voting Shahrar Ali first, no mention of 2nd but RON 3rd? How does that work when there’s 5 of them? And what happens to second choice OR is 3rd vote for RON a mistype and should read 2? TIA
NotDonna · 01/08/2022 10:27

@ScreechingEchoChamber at 10pm on 31st August so plenty of time.

@GreenGretel there’s no recommendations by the Green Feminists for ‘Policy Development Committee’. Their statements aren’t especially inspiring. Do any of you have any further insights please? I think there’s 5 posts and 5 candidates.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 01/08/2022 10:59

I join3d the Greens after leaving Labour and attended conference earlier this year. The open misogyny from the pronoun people was so bad I almost left immediately, however the support from the Green Feminists getting the crucial votes through was superb and I’ve stayed to back up the work they are doing.

As an aside, I had to snigger at ,any of the online events when pronoun people were often misgendered/correctly sexed by other members on the Zooms and the hyperbolic outrage if misgendered. Very funny and showed clearly how we all instinctively sex people on sight.

TheGreatATuin · 01/08/2022 11:17

Just bumping to remind everyone who's still in the Greens to get voting! We can make a real difference here.

GreenGretel · 01/08/2022 12:17

YOu can leave people as no preference.

Suggest 1. Shahrar Ali

  1. RON

@ScreechingEchoChamber at 10pm on 31st August so plenty of time.

Fab, thank you.

ScreamingMeMe · 01/08/2022 12:45

Have people seen this video? Tears over misgendering. (There is a video in the first tweet: it's quite something.)

"I have over 5mins of this and it's horrendous stuff in a GPW meeting. I know I'm followed by quite a few high up folks in @TheGreenParty so it's alarming that you're silent while trans and non-binary people are abused in official meetings

t.co/xcWyFvWGNc "

"I should be clear this behaviour would not stand in an @SGPWomen meeting where trans and non-binary members have a safe space. You won't solve this without taking firm action against 'gender critical' people and it's past time that you did"

"I personally feel that the @europeangreens should be making clear to @TheGreenParty that the ongoing abuse of trans and non-binary members will not be tolerated and action should be forthcoming. If you say Green Feminism is trans-inclusive then mean it"

ScreamingMeMe · 01/08/2022 12:53

'We nonbinary members share many of the same issues as women"

"I will try to gender Annie correctly although I can't for the life of me remember their gender, I'm sorry."

It's like a sketch from The Office!

ScreamingMeMe · 01/08/2022 13:02

It's the Green Party Women meeting with observers, btw.

Then there's also this from another member:

GPW has a long history of this. The screenshot is from the latest email from them to members. It makes me upset and angry that the most progressive party has such deeply rooted transphobia.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 01/08/2022 13:08

The person who's upset is upset because they has been misgendered? But the other person apologies and says she'll try to gender her correctly, is this not enough?

If you're going to insist on being referred to as an arbitrary sex or gender then I'm afraid it's highly likely that people are going to make mistakes, even with the best will in the world. Insisting on counter intuitive labels uses a lot of cognitive power and can make effective communication really difficult.

We can try to redefine reality, and people can try to play along with it, but we can hear from your voice what sex you are and its very hard to redefine reality. Some of us even think it's a bad idea, for the reasons stated in this excellent article:
