Calling all environmental feminists! The Green Party is electing a new Deputy Leader & eight positions on the Executive Committee (GPEx). There are gender critical candidates for most posts, including Shahrar Ali for Deputy.
Voting will be throughout August.
If you join the party (for as little as £6.00) before 31st July, you will get a vote.

We have the chance to turn the party around - back to reality, common sense, environmental justice and for women's sex-based rights. Do join us!

Also, Green Party members and non-members can sign up to receive emails from Green Feminists. Just email [email protected]

Probably best for you to take that up with the Green Party executive rather than make potentially defamatory posts on Mumsnet.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/08/2022 13:37

The person who's upset is upset because they has been misgendered? But the other person apologies and says she'll try to gender her correctly, is this not enough?

No I think the person who is upset is upset because another non binary person has been misgendered. If these obviously female people don't think they are women, why do they want to be part of a women's group? Is it because they recognise that sex matters, even though they refuse to acknowledge it?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/08/2022 13:42

The TRAs in the party openly admit that they want to kick gender critical feminists out of the party, and less provocative motions aimed at resolving tension are not acceptable because they want 100% capitulation.

TheGreatATuin · 01/08/2022 14:26

Amazing that a motion saying that sex and gender are different is being painted as transphobic. Says it all really.
But I'd like to reiterate that a lot of the current TRA tantrums are because things aren't going their way. They're not getting all their motions through and they're not succeeding in getting women chucked out. It's making them very, very cross.
So if you're a Green member, please get voting.

Hmm I also can't decide what to do for policy development committee. Trued to find them all on twitter and was largely unsuccessful! I found Edward Gildea and he seemed harmless enough but no idea about the others!

TheGoogleMum · 01/08/2022 14:29

Women are opposed because of their sex not their gender so a policy to separate is needed and not transphobic. It doesn't mean trans people don't face any oppression, it's just not the same oppression

I asked the Green Feminists ..... got this reply

Just been consulting on this and we suggest:

  1. Martin Blacke
  2. Edward Gildea
  3. RON
TheGreatATuin · 01/08/2022 14:46

I would like to mention that in my time in the Greens, I have seen the same few members call women transphobic for pretty much anything, from sharing resources for DV support to attending a reproductive rights meeting to completely out of the blue accusations that seem to come out of nowhere.
In every single one, these accusations are never backed up by evidence and they rarely even say exactly what it is that these women said or did that was wrong. They're just unsubstantiated accusations. There is a lot of mudslinging.
It's worth keeping that in mind if you see yet more accusations aimed at women on this thread and elsewhere.
But again, a lot of this is because women are actually starting to make some inroads against the misogyny in the party. This is the pushback, so I'm going to plead again for Greens to please vote.
We need a decent executive committee to deal with this and voting can help us get there.

This.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 01/08/2022 16:01

Well, if anyone is going to make accusations, then I suggest they share evidence. If there's no evidence then it risks being either unfounded accusations, slurs, or even defamatory.

Please would someone say what RON means?

TheGreatATuin · 01/08/2022 17:38

RON means 'reopen nominations'. In other words, you don't want any of the other candidates and would prefer that the nominations be reopened.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 01/08/2022 17:53

I always thought it could get really confusing if there was a candidate called Ron.

ScrollingLeaves · 01/08/2022 18:06

I can't open the PDF with the full results in it, so don't know how Shahrar Ali did. He's challenging the result, though. electshahrar.co.uk/challenge-to-deputy-leader-result-2022

waterwitch · 07/09/2022 14:51

Interested in this, but not following in detail. Are any of these results likely to help the Green Party escape their TWAW dogma?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/09/2022 14:55

Having just skimmed through Shahrar Ali's long piece above about his complaint to the returning officer, I would say no. The person elected as Deputy Leader is the main person he's complaining about. Not sure about the others.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/09/2022 15:05

Scibright-green.org/2022/09/07/green-party-executive-results-declared/ This website says every single person elected supports the Party's stance on trans rights, i.e. gender ideology. This is the nail in the coffin for me. The Green Party is supposed to be a party about the environment, and why are we concerned about the environment and climate change? Science. Who provides the evidence there are problems with the environment and climate change? Scientists. Have scientists provided incontrovertible evidence that gender identity exists and that affirmation and medical treatments for trans-identifying people, especially children, are safe and better than watchful waiting and therapy? No. Do the Green Party show any signs of grasping that this isn't an extension of gay rights? No. Do they show any signs of grasping that this is a safeguarding issue? No, in spite of the Challenor affair. Do they show any signs of grasping that there is a conflict between at least four protected characteristics here, namely sex/sexuality/belief vs gender reassignment? No.

I don't trust them. I can't vote for people I don't trust.

bright-green.org/2022/09/07/zack-polanski-elected-deputy-leader-of-the-green-party/
Members of the Green Party of England and Wales have elected Zack Polanski as their new deputy leader. ... Also standing were Tyrone Scott, Shahrar Ali and Nick Humberstone. Scott came second in the election. Polanski secured 42 per cent of first preference votes from members, to Scott’s 28 per cent. In third place, Ali took 24 per cent of first preferences. Humberstone came last with 6 per cent. After two more rounds of counting in which the second and third preferences of those who voted for Humberstone and Ali were reallocated, Polanski emerged victorious on 51 per cent. ... Turnout in the election was low, with 6,266 of the party’s more than 50,000 members casting votes – equivalent to just 12.5 per cent. The election was at times fraught, with candidates clashing on numerous occasions at hustings – particularly over trans rights. At one hustings, Polanski accused Ali of “sitting with Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin” on the issue.

Oh dear.

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2022 15:20

Finding this really worrying, From Shahrar Ali:

'when I was elected deputy in 2014, it was only after I insisted on a recount which resulted in a small pile of ballot papers (all of which had my votes on them) being found, without which I would not have won. In 2016, I was nearly cheated out of a lead candidate position on a regional list selection, were it not for a miscount being finally corrected after the then ERO had been found to have given faulty instructions to the Electoral Reform Services Ltd.'

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2022 15:24

Also, 12% turnout is paltry.

ScrollingLeaves · 07/09/2022 17:58

Having read through Shahrar Ali’s letter it seems the party is an absolute mess. Let them get on with being a trans club.

As a previous poster said what on earth does gender identity ideology have to do with the environment or science?

They are not going to be in government.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/09/2022 18:03

If they'd had the good sense to (at a minimum) keep the debate going, I'd have considered voting for them. We had an impressive GC Green candidate at the last General Election. I understand she's since left the party. Since then, they've treated Emma Bateman and Shahrar Ali shamefully. They can whistle for my vote now. Looks like Count Binhead or equivalent again!
