WHO - "sex is not limited to male and female".

Point no 3.

Can't wait to find out what the other sexes are. Oddly, they don't appear to name them.

(And do they mean 'going beyond non-binary'? Surely it should say going beyond the binary?)

Whatever, we still have a huge uphill battle.

FFS.

pink85 · 08/07/2022 19:38

WTF
Then tell us WHO tell us the others I'll wait
lol I'm so tired

RockPaperScience · 08/07/2022 20:02

I’m so sick of this shit.

I’m going to sit over here with Pink85, waiting to be enlightened by the WHO.

achillestoes · 08/07/2022 20:06

It is though.

nepeta · 08/07/2022 20:26

They encourage people to comment!

Evelyn Boy-Mena (WHO) [email protected];
Claudia Marques de Abreu Lopes (UNU-IIGH) [email protected]

Might also be a good idea to send this to Emma Hilton and others who have expertise in the field.

JustSpeculation · 08/07/2022 20:29

If WHO doesn't have a clear concept of what sex is, then what's the point of it commenting on the issue? What can it possibly contribute?

MaudeYoung · 08/07/2022 20:36

The WHO and the UN have succumbed to lobby groups and have lost all credibility.

Just the fact that the UN and WHO even entertain the fantasy notion of "gender identity" as some kind of reality is enough to discredit them.

Neither can define so-called "gender identity" beyond how someone "feels". There is no material, measurable evidence-base.

BananaPie · 08/07/2022 20:47

Biological sex isn’t limited to male or female. There are a very small proportion of people who are neither on a genetic level. Gender is a different debate. At least get that bit right before you start giving out.

What are the other sexes called then?

😆
Biological sex is absolutely limited to male or female that is how we reproduce. A very small number of people have a disorder of sexual development (DSD) that means genetic testing is required to identify their sex, as it is not immediately obvious from their secondary sexual characteristics.

achillestoes · 08/07/2022 20:57

‘Biological sex isn’t limited to male or female. There are a very small proportion of people who are neither on a genetic level.’

What is their sex?

Conflictedunicorn · 08/07/2022 20:57

People with DSDs are still male or female, so I am really hoping WHO are not insulting them by saying they are some obscure 3rd sex.

continueorterminate · 08/07/2022 21:03

Can I offer "fale" and "memale" as 2 of the alternative sexes?

bloodyunicorns · 08/07/2022 21:07

What a load of bollocks. The WHO should ask someone sensible, eg Kathleen Stock, to write this shit for them

IloveHolby · 08/07/2022 21:13

I have no words. Other than FFS. 😡😫

BananaPie · 08/07/2022 21:13

Well if they don’t have XY or XX chromosomes they are neither male nor female in terms of their sex. But they probably will have a gender.

This is different to (for example) someone with XX chromosomes who thinks their gender is male. That is a different debate.

You risk undermining your point if you are mixing up gender and sex when there are some people with biological differences which means they are neither sex

IloveHolby · 08/07/2022 21:15

Am e-mailing Sex Matters now.

LoudingVoice · 08/07/2022 21:16

When DH and I went for ivf, we needed to be a male/female couple, and if we hadn’t been, we’d have needed the other sex as a donor/surrogate to have been able to have the treatment, how do they explain that I wonder if there aren’t two sexes?

Rocking up at an ivf clinic feeling like a gender wouldn’t get anyone anywhere would it?

nocoolnamesleft · 08/07/2022 21:16

Oh for fuck's sake. To pluck a few obvious examples, people with XO chromosomes are female, and those with XXY are male. People with DSDs are indeed male or female. To suggest otherwise is highly othering, and not remotely inclusive.

As I have said. People with DSD, the people you are referencing are male or female. You’re being very insulting to them.

No

A male can have a chromosomal abnormality, and a female can have a chromosomal abnormality. They are both still male
or female.

BananaPie · 08/07/2022 21:22

Oh sorry. I’m genuinely really sorry if I have upset you. I got it wrong. Apologies.

Circumferences · 08/07/2022 21:22

What if a gender critical person has a chromosomal DSD?
GC people tend not to believe in "having a gender".
Do chromosomes influence one's beliefs?! Huge scientific breakthrough there!

Oh ok.
I'm sorry for taking the piss a bit above there...

Conflictedunicorn · 08/07/2022 21:23

Yes they do. If you have XY chromosomes you believe you’re gods gift to humanity and those with XX chromosomes are not.
