In case we hadn’t had enough drama.

Good luck, Maya.

It looks like the discrimination on grounds of belief and indirect sex discrimination were dismissed, just looking at the summary on the first page. Is this a problem? (IANAL)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/07/2022 11:09

Absolutely delighted. What a legend.

VivaMozVegas · 06/07/2022 11:09

Get in!! Delighted for you Maya, what a woman!

sweetgrapes · 06/07/2022 11:09

Yesss!!! 🥂

BenCoopersSupportWren · 06/07/2022 11:09

(At work, supposedly on a Teams call, hoping some kind MNers could summarise the judgement for those of us unable to read it in full ourselves right now)

GrabbyGabby · 06/07/2022 11:10

Fuck me. She did it.

Worthy of respect and a total badass.

@MForstater 😘

Signalbox · 06/07/2022 11:10

Thank god for that!

PearPickingPorky · 06/07/2022 11:10

Don't mind me, just loitering about until the FWR lawyers can parse this into something I understand!

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 06/07/2022 11:11

Oh my god

Thelnebriati · 06/07/2022 11:11

The unanimous judgment of the Tribunal is as follows:

  1. The complaints of direct discrimination because of belief are well founded against all Respondents in respect of:
1.1 The decision not to offer the Claimant an employment contract. 1.2 The decision not to renew the Claimant’s visiting fellowship.
  1. The other complaints of direct discrimination because of belief are
dismissed.
  1. The complaint of victimisation is well founded against the First and Second Respondents in respect of the removal of the Claimant’s profile from their website.
  1. The complaint of victimisation in respect of withdrawal of an offer to engage the Claimant as a consultant is dismissed.
  1. The complaints of harassment and indirect discrimination (sex and belief) are dismissed.
  1. Remedies for the successful complaints and any issues as to apportionment between the Respondents will be determined at a future hearing.

This is good news. And that's a lot of words in that judgement. Can someone with a bigger brain and vocab please break it down for me? Thank you!

JustAnotherViper · 06/07/2022 11:12

BenCoopersSupportWren · 06/07/2022 11:08

What did she NOT win on??

Sex discrimination, harassment and victimisation

she got the important direct and indirect discrimination on belief.

Cailleach1 · 06/07/2022 11:12

Yes. Well done Maya et al!

BenCoopersSupportWren · 06/07/2022 11:14

So they discriminated against her in terms of not offering her a further contract because of her beliefs, and they victimised her by removing her profile from the website when they didn't do the same to others, but they didn't create a hostile environment for her or discriminate against her because of being a woman and therefore being more likely to be GC? Is that about the size of it?

KookaburraSits · 06/07/2022 11:14

Well done, Maya. In awe of you for taking it all this way when it would have been so easy just to back down.

seemsikeaniceday · 06/07/2022 11:14

Direct Discrimination on the grounds of belief Yes.

Well done Maya.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 06/07/2022 11:14

Congratulations Maya! She already struck a massive blow for all of our freedom with the EAT decision, but I'd have been gutted for her if she didn't win this.

It's awful to contemplate where we'd be without her!

BenCoopersSupportWren · 06/07/2022 11:14

JustAnotherViper · 06/07/2022 11:12

Sex discrimination, harassment and victimisation

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 06/07/2022 11:15

THANK YOU MAYA

SpinningForTheWorld · 06/07/2022 11:15

She won on the main counts.

Bloody hell.

CriticalCondition · 06/07/2022 11:16

YES!!
Well done, Maya. Thank you, thank you so much.

GrabbyGabby · 06/07/2022 11:16

Looks like there will be another hearing to determine what level of damages she will get. That will be interesting. I hope we get to see that too.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/07/2022 11:16

Amazing news!!!
