In case we hadn’t had enough drama.

Good luck, Maya.

Well done Maya! 🥂

RaininginDarling · 06/07/2022 11:49

Ha! Thanks @PearlClutch (as an aside, it's very hard to respond directly to posters on this barely functioning phone up so amazed I found your name)

And thank you to all the eloquent posters here who patiently explain the complexities of the judgement as well as the headlines.

Thank you, Maya, Ben and Sex Matters. Some other poster recently described Maya as having "the energy of the sun". I like that description very much but there's been a significant burden on her shoulders throughout - emotionally, financially - under scrutiny by the press and the weight of our collective frustration too. I hope she's celebrating like Nicole after divorcing Tom - all fist pumps to the sky. GET IN!

CGD has until 17 August 2022 to apply to the Employment Appeal Tribunal for permission to appeal this judgment.

This is giving me chills. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they're appealing....

If they had any sense they’ll at least wait for the Bailey ruling before wading back in.

Pluvia · 06/07/2022 11:50

Fantastic. I know at least two people who will now feel they have enough protection of their beliefs to take up issues with their employers and start changing things within their organisations. So much easier to do so confidently now. Thank you, Maya. You have given hundreds perhaps thousands, of women the tools to take the fight further.

DelurkingLawyer · 06/07/2022 11:50

Hurrah for Maya, and such a relief after years of fighting. What you have achieved for us all is genuinely extraordinary.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/07/2022 11:51

This is so important. I am sure there will be plenty of HR departments reverse ferreting.

The risk assessment of whose rights you favour and whose gets ignored and mischaracterised has changed.

Requiring women to be kind or else may end up in an adverse tribunal outcome.

Congratulations to Maya and her fantastic team! Only skimmed 40 pages of the document so far but interesting to note the panel were unanimous in their findings about the tweets, except for one.

I must have read more than 40 pages as it’s on page 70 where the panel are described as not unanimous about calling P Bunce a man in a dress.

achillestoes · 06/07/2022 11:53

If they appeal they’ll lose again. The law is clear.

Hurrah!!!🍾🍾🍾

To Maya, so many thanks for being the one to take this on & make such a huge & historic difference for everyone.

To the women & men whose cases are still ongoing: thank you & good luck!

Oestrogelsmuggler · 06/07/2022 11:55

She won!

MalagaNights · 06/07/2022 11:55

Fantastic news!!

Congratulations Maya and thank you for your strength and fortitude and for doing this for all of us.

Kenneldogsrock · 06/07/2022 11:55

Amazing news! - congratulations to all

IcakethereforeIam · 06/07/2022 11:58

Oh thank God. I've been a bit chary of declarations of victory since that foxkiller tweet.

Well done Maya and her team, absolutely heros!

Helleofabore · 06/07/2022 11:58

where the panel are described as not unanimous about calling P Bunce a man in a dress.

That though is still significant.

If it wasn’t ‘unanimously’ either way, still means that it is not something that should be considered ‘hateful’ and people should not be punished or abused for saying something similar.

Sisisimone · 06/07/2022 11:58

I'm so happy. Thank you Maya for fighting this and congratulations 🎊

beastlyslumber · 06/07/2022 11:59

That is brilliant! I'm delighted and a bit tearful! Well done Maya and team! This is a game-changer FlowersWineGin

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 06/07/2022 12:00

Congratulations Maya, fantastic news!! 🍾

achillestoes · 06/07/2022 12:00

But they were unanimous in saying that even if they had all agreed that calling Bunce ‘a man in a dress’ was objectively unreasonable, they still wouldn’t have agreed that a single tweet that was a bit unreasonable, in the context of the rest of the case, should be enough to dismiss an employee.

OP posts:
heathspeedwell · 06/07/2022 12:02

So if the tribunal found that it's reasonable to call transwomen men, will that mean that Mumsnet might relax their rules about what we're allowed to say on this board?

AuntMunca · 06/07/2022 12:02

Fantastic result! Thank you, Maya 🎉

Floisme · 06/07/2022 12:04

I didn't dare look before 😱

Thank you so much Maya, you have made me and countless other women feel a little more secure in our jobs today. I wish I had a fraction of your courage. Plus you've conducted yourself with such grace and dignity - which is also more than I'd have managed.

I hope you're celebrating right now with your fantastic team.

Interesting. Did that depend on the day of the week, I wonder. My son wore a pink tutu over his trousers on a day his school were raising money for breast cancer. Surprisingly, the pink tutu didn't change his sex. Or, did it? they just got to wear pink if they wanted, and he thought the tutu was fun .

Jeepers, this fluid stuff is amazing ly fictitious .

This!!

This is about opening doors, and Maya has just flung open double doors, and jammed a wedge under each of them.

Women who have been put into horrendous positions, in healthcare, education, rape services, etc, can now have the backing of this judgment.

Maya Forstater - fabulous pioneer.

And, the stickers she was handing out and which I had stuck on the back of my phone until they eventually disintegrated, said

Radicalised by Mumsnet.

Yay!

Yes, and hopefully the fact that the judge herself didn’t feel this crossed a line is good too.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 06/07/2022 12:11

Very good news! Congratulations Maya.
