I've not seen a thread on Amy on MN and the search didn't show up anything. She seems to be being put through the wringer by tras and by her nursing college.

I thought if she saw this thread it might be cheering Flowers, she's on twitter. I found her thanks to Bette.

I found this article from a bit ago on the case. I don't think I've seen it before but it very eloquently sums up the situation in Canada

Blimey, no holes barred, fantastic article! Thanks for this cake!
Been wondering how it's going for Amy. Wasnt holding out much hope with things being as they are in Canada- but it actually sounds like it might be going similarly to Jo Phoenix case...?

Wow! That is fantastic.

"Under trans doctrine (which, shockingly, institutions in the west are embracing seemingly without question), the incorporeal soul/gender that supposedly exists in a child is so completely supreme, the despicable body is something to be loathed, rejected, subverted, drugged, mutilated, and dominated.
The body exists at the whim of the divine gender/soul. The body, made up of meaningless flesh, can be cut, chopped, sculpted, amputated, or experimented upon with full confidence that the “real person” inside will be unaffected by what occurs in the physical world.
How is it that as a society we have allowed what is demonstrably a fringe religious doctrine to shape law and policy to such a tragic extent?"

Spot on

Grammarnut · 15/10/2023 18:43

Good luck Amy. Terf Island is with you.

PearlClutch · 15/10/2023 20:59

The College, perhaps unintentionally, has placed itself on trial.

😁

When you lay it out in such stark terms, it's so jarring. Genderism is a weird ideology based on twin pillars of false consciousness and the fake promise of experimental surgery.
There are all kinds of body dysmorphia (which can be horrible and debilitating in severe cases) and only one, it seems, is treated in this way. Because GenderSoul?

The fuck?

duc748 · 16/10/2023 17:52

The BC College of Nurses says that children as young as 2 or 3 years old can “become aware” of their gender and that it is the responsibility of medical professionals to “affirm” whatever “gender expression” emanates from the toddler’s communications, irrespective of the biology of the children.

Not at all loony. Oh, no, sirree, Bob.

Thank you for the link icake.

Is anyone here on the link Amy Hamm case? Not sure if I'm having tech issues, or it's just not started yet (waiting for host to join).

IcakethereforeIam · 23/10/2023 11:15

@Impossiblenurse I think it's still the wee small hours in Canada at the moment. I think it starts around 6 pm BST. I'm not sure because BC seems to have multiple time zones and it might be 6 pm GMT, which is 5 pm BST.....?

You’re not alone. I did the same last time around :D

Signalbox · 23/10/2023 19:02

Ffs they haven’t worked out that they need to mute observers. Seems obvious on a high profile case.

toomanytrees · 23/10/2023 19:10

Logged on to listen. Discussion on procedural matters. Some man shouting obscenities while Amy's lawyer is speaking. I have now been kicked off. I hope they don't think it was me.

Can you get back in?

toomanytrees · 23/10/2023 19:44

Can you get back in? No. "You can join the meeting after the host admits you". Host hasn't admitted me. Maybe they kicked everyone off because of the troll. Also, someone had signed in as A Hitler.

Impossiblenurse · 23/10/2023 20:00

Well I can only imagine Amy's frustration.

Hearing has really not got started. BC nursing council, object to various points including another witness they consider as unqualified to give evidence. And whether their rebuttal witness can give evidence after Amy (due to witness availability in November only). A bit of too and fro about whether this is appropriate, given that Amy will not be in position to give evidence associated with this witness testimony or even really know what allegations are levelled against her... are these even the right words in these circumstances?

Some 'attendees' have been disruptive including having offensive usernames and interrupting proceedings (audio/video and some creative writing)....consequently panel have gone back into break out room (again) ..for a couple of hours this time, while they see if IT can do something about the disruptors.

I have no clue what is going on TBH apart from a whole heap of faffing about. If there is anyone out there who knows if any of the proceedings were/are, in/significant I'd welcome their insight.

They're on a break now for a couple of hours til 2pm their time. I'm still in the link though. Perhaps they've stopped allowing observers in due to too many trolls. The last one was someone called A.Hitler saying "fuck off cunt". They really haven't thought it through. Think it's BCCNM's link so doesn't surprise me. Perhaps they are keen to have an excuse to keep the public out.

It's all a bit of a mystery as the Canadian system is quite different from ours. I think Amy's lawyers are about to open their case with Dr Cantor. There seems to be an odd system in Canada where each expert witness needs to be assessed as being "qualified" by the panel before they give evidence. And the evidence needs to be heard before a decision is made on rebuttal witnesses. Amy's lawyers were keen that the rebuttal evidence (if heard) shouldn't be right at the end because of fairness. They're dealing with some IT issues during the break. I wonder if they will be trying to working out how to mute observers because it really is quite distracting to have all the nut job trolls interrupting every 5 minutes. The BCCNM's case wasn't constantly interrupted like this because you had to apply to join so they were able to keep the troll out more easily.

chilling19 · 23/10/2023 21:13

Hi all I got confused by the time difference. What is happening? Are we in the waiting room because of trolls?

I'm still in the hearing but it hasn't started up again yet. I think it should resume at 10pm (our time) and perhaps they will say how they are going to deal with the interruptions at that point.

chilling19 · 23/10/2023 21:27

Thank you

Justsaynonow · 23/10/2023 21:30

BC is on Pacific Standard Time, usually 8h behind the UK. We turn the clocks back an hour on Nov 7.

The BCCNM is completely out of their depth here - I can't recall another hearing like this, ever. They've always been quick, as far as I know only to assess professional misconduct like abuse or drugs, with suspensions or licence revocations. I am appalled that members' fees (which increased this year) are going to this. I'm also in disbelief that a UBC Nursing prof denied biology.
