I've not seen a thread on Amy on MN and the search didn't show up anything. She seems to be being put through the wringer by tras and by her nursing college.

I thought if she saw this thread it might be cheering Flowers, she's on twitter. I found her thanks to Bette.

I don't get the argument. Resp. said she would feel it a conflict of interest to deal with gender aff. care, but BF tries to make one imagine what a TW might think if Amy was their nurse? I am also dealing with DGC, so apologies if I have it wrong

chilling19 · 18/03/2024 18:16

Amy not happy on Twitter, no wonder she has her camera off.

nauticant · 18/03/2024 18:16

bf claiming there's "no evidence about a Culture War" or that there's no evidence that people have been cancelled for their views, or that institutions have enabled such cancellation. bf's approach is that nothing in Amy Hamm's submission can be accepted if it doesn't have a footnote.

nauticant · 18/03/2024 18:19

Paraphrasing: Nothing that has occurred in any other jurisdiction can be accepted as a fact because it has happened outside of where the laws of Canada apply.

I think AH said she wouldn't work in the field of gender medicine due to conflict of interest. But bf submitted that if a trans woman turned up at Amy's workplace they would have to deal with Amy in that situation regardless. Thing is in Amy's evidence she said that she had worked with trans people previously and there has never been any complaints about her work. If I recall correctly Amy also said in her evidence that she would use preferred pronouns in a work situation and has always followed her work protocols on dealing with trans people so these scenarios that bf has come up with are really not relevant.

nauticant · 18/03/2024 18:28

bf's way of dealing with that is that even if AH was able to rein herself in in such an interaction, there's a risk that the highly vulnerable transwoman would spot that the medical worker was a notorious transphobe and that could involve them being harmed. For example, by fleeing a clinic and not getting essential healthcare.

toomanytrees · 18/03/2024 18:38

So far, BF's statement was largely a long drawn out fictional story about a poor, vulnerable transwoman who was among other tropes to numerous to mention, misgendered in an airport and questioned in a woman's washroom. There was the occasional reference to the law and the College's (crazy) expert witnesses.

bf confirms she's going to be continuing. Everyone sighs inwardly.

I know I did

chilling19 · 18/03/2024 18:39

Oh she is back 😩

ILikeDungs · 18/03/2024 18:45

At times she sounds a bit tipsy. Just the accent I am sure but cringy to listen to.

Edited to say, it is MY accent too (Canadian here) so I am not being mean

chilling19 · 18/03/2024 18:47

<bangs head on coffee table>

Listening to bf's citing of case law makes Canada sound like a Hellhole for those wanting to have free speech outside of very narrow parameters of what right-thinking people are permitted to think and say.

That said, I'd not be so minded to believe what she says.

nauticant · 18/03/2024 18:55

Unsurprisingly, the chair of the panel has had to interject for a second time to point out that bf is relying on authorities that she has not previously notified to the panel that would be forming part of her case.

How unusual is this? I don't recall that happening in other cases

chilling19 · 18/03/2024 19:02

Canada is indeed a hellhole. Also has it been established that anything Amy said is transphobic?

I think that'll be for the panel to determine. If this case was in the UK I think it would go the same way as the Rachel Meade case. If Amy loses I hope she appeals. Perhaps she could be Canada's Forstater.

nauticant · 18/03/2024 19:06

It effectively doesn't happen ILikeDungs, because it's a sort of ambush. Counsel know that pissing off the judge/panel is a bad idea. Also, it throws some shade on the line of argument being advanced.

ILikeDungs · 18/03/2024 19:08

Canada is indeed a hellhole.

My sister (still in Canada) was crying last time I spoke to her on skype over the state of it.

fallfallfall · 18/03/2024 19:20

please someone tell me ah's lawyer will have an opportunity to speak.

I think Amy's side closes tomorrow

nauticant · 18/03/2024 19:21

At this rate we'll be hearing from them in the Autumn.

...Respondent wants to challenge the entire Canadian research institutions...

Yes. Yes she should. While 'identifying as a nurse'.

Yes, these are the closing submissions of the college of nursing.
Amy's counsel will go second.
