JK and the Manx flag

I'm a huge fan of Jo and I'm far along the GC Road. But can anyone explain what the hell is going on with her thirder Twitter comments and her use of the Manx flag. I'm Manx myself and I'm not entirely OK with it, not least because it's not helping the GC argument at all here.

Have obviously name changed for this thread.

@Conflictedunicorn and i must remember to tell people on Mumsnet that making fun of C-PTSD is fine and women who have it because of abuse should just remember to learn to take a joke.

There will be some like me who are not offended some will be.

Julie Bindel is taking the piss out of those who claim PTSD etc (and therefore minimise and invalidate PTSD) because they got misgendered or someone was impolite to them on Twitter or similar.

She is not making a joke about actual PTSD.

These two women are soooooo far past giving any fucks now though, so it's all moot really. They have been subjected to so much utter shite and abuse, that they no longer have any fucks to give. And I'm kind of here for it tbh.

Is it worse to make a joke about it or claim it when you don’t have it. I admit the joke was not in the best taste but meh. Scroll and move on. People can be dicks. There’s a difference between that and purposefully trivialising it. That joke seems to be about Laurie penny who claimed PTSD from a fucking book review. Or the TRA who claim someone using the wrong pronouns triggers them. So co-opting the words used by PTSD sufferers for trivial things. That is what pisses me off, not a bad taste joke.

CrossStichQueen · 04/07/2022 20:12

just because you find one more offensive than the other, doesn't mean the lesser one should get a free pass.. its still not ok, and invalidating.

You are free to be offended magpie. What free pass? What do you expect should happen to JB exactly?

Morverner · 04/07/2022 20:13

Can't believe the nastiness on this thread. I didn't come in all guns blazing, I'm usually full of support for JK and I've never heard the phrase thirder applied to a Manx person.
But fgs, replies insulting someone's nationality and home really aren't OK.

I think JKR et al are starting to get a bit high on their own supply. They're just so hysterically pleased with themselves all over Twitter just now.

For the first time I'm finding it a bit of a cringe.

🙄They are talking to EACH OTHER. In their replies. You wouldn’t be seeing JKR’s conversations with her friends “all over Twitter” if you use Twitter in anything approaching a normal way. Maybe you follow weirdos who obsessively stalk JKR’s account and retweet everything. .

Also “hysterical”, sod off.

StationaryMagpie · 04/07/2022 20:16

oh sorry, i forgot which forum i'm in.

i'll take my c-ptsd caused by years of domestic and sexual abuse and go 'cope harder' elsewhere.. where there are people with an ounce of humanity and genuine kindness.

RoyalCorgi · 04/07/2022 20:17

I doubt anyone on the Isle of Man gives a flying fuck about JKR's use of their flag.

The only people getting het up - or pretending to get het up - about this are trans activists, a group of people who have spent two years looking for bad things JKR has done and not able to find a single thing. Therefore they have had to invent ridiculous things such as anti-Semitism and now they're so desperate they're resorting to getting angry about the Isle of Man. They are the most pathetic group of people I've come across in my entire life, and so stupid they don't even realise people are laughing at them.

There is no Douglas wheel and you might want to read up on an island nation, that you obviously have no knowledge of.
Wikipedia might be an easy place to start.

Same, it’s not like they said all Manx people are evil. It was a joke between friends. And to be fair anyone taking the piss out of Laurie penny gets my vote.

Oh dear....

The reason she used the Manx flag is because she was making a joke about 'thirders' (a word she has just made up) and.....well I'll leave you to figure out the rest!

It's clearly nothing personal against the good citizens of the Isle of Man!

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 04/07/2022 20:18

Jeez. I have bipolar disorder (the has-to-take-lithium-and-occasionally-gets-shoved-in-a-mental-hospital kind) and I'm pretty sure I've taken the piss out of people who say they're bipolar for attention or as a get-out clause for bad behaviour. Probably annoys me more than it annoys a sane person. Mocking pretenders isn't the same as mocking people with the real thing.

FriendlyPineapple · 04/07/2022 20:19

Excuse me @TastefulRainbowUnicorn ??

Sorry, I assumed women were still allowed to share their opinions on threads. I shall await your next set of rules before I respond to anything ever again.

And don't tell me to sod off.

No, what is invalidating is people claiming C-PTSD for things that don't cause C-PTSD in any way shape or form.

Which is exactly the point that Julie Bindel is making.

There used to be a Laxey wheel. I know. I visited the fucker. Many years ago. Sorry, got the name wrong. You gonna shout at me too? Why ar you so upset two women had a joke and used a flag?

Morverner · 04/07/2022 20:20

So women are expected to #bekind

No, but there's a point where it's not OK to take the piss out of someone's nationality. And I'm referring to Mumsnet not JK there.

OP posts:
TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/07/2022 20:22

I assumed it was two women having a joke together.

This is of course forbidden, because some men get the rage when women are visibly not centring men. (Do you remember that weirdo who photoshopped himself in swimwear into the middle of a photo of JKR’s lunch?)

She's a self made billionaire - if I were her I would have been high on my own supply years ago!

And as PP said, it's not 'all over Twitter' it's an exchange of messages (albeit public) between a couple of friends.
