JK and the Manx flag

I'm a huge fan of Jo and I'm far along the GC Road. But can anyone explain what the hell is going on with her thirder Twitter comments and her use of the Manx flag. I'm Manx myself and I'm not entirely OK with it, not least because it's not helping the GC argument at all here.

Have obviously name changed for this thread.

I can just about see how, if you were desperate, you could claim this was mocking the ‘lgbtq+ community’, but how is it supposed to be mocking ‘those with mental illness’?

They have an in joke about her being 1/3 lesbian (or something) so she made a joke about 'thirders' (taking the piss out of the ridiculous labels assigned to everything now) and used the Isle of Man flag as the 'thirder' flag (taking the piss out of the ridiculous flags for everything).

Not her funniest joke I have to say, she has genuinely made me laugh out loud on Twitter before now, but hardly something to get ones knickers in a knot about. It's hardly comparable to some of the 'in jokes' TRAs have made (skeletons dancing on graves, golf clubs etc).

What was rather hilarious was some people not realising it was the flag of the Isle of Man and claiming she was using Nazi imagery! Grin

Do you know what’s worse for those of us with PTSD? People like Laurie Penny saying she has PTSD from a bad book review or that Travis twit having PTSD from someone looking at him. Jokes I can deal with, people trivialising my condition for pity points and kudos I cannot.

Conflict there are posters that will find offence in everything. I agree with you as someone who suffered PTSD I find the comments about having PTSD due to a bad book review much more offensive.

That's taking the piss out of a TRA journalist who appeared to trivialise serious mental illness by claiming she got CPTSD from reading a critical review of her book (then when people pointed out that this was a bit dodgy, said that of course she meant she had a pre-existing case of it that flared up because of the review).
