Not sexist, good ratio of male and female character toddler shows. Exist?

Sorry for the long title and not sure if this is the right place but want actual recommendations not just sniping about first world problems.

I have a toddler who is interested in television now. I'd like to show him shows that have a good spread of.female characters and not just a token pink one. (Looking at you Paw Patrol)

So far I've tried:
Bluey(sorry, I found it annoying!)
Thomas (ok, some girls but have run out of episodes.)
Bing(he wasn't interested)
Octonaughts(he wasn't interested)
My Little Pony (He's not interested)
Various old school shows which are very male heavy/bad: fireman Sam, postman pat
Pepper Pig is banned in our house. She's rude and badly drawn.

Just to say, we do limit his TV so I'd like what he watches to actually be good and not sending the wrong messages.

Does a not annoying, not scary good.ratio show exist or am I out of luck here?
Thanks

Hey Duggee. But go back to Bluey, it’s lovely

RoseslnTheHospital · 27/06/2022 17:32

I was going to say Bluey but I see you've tried it. It for me is the best example of what you're looking for.

LaPufalina · 27/06/2022 17:34

Gosh yes, Bluey. Give the swim school episode go, or the camping one (I cried at both, the former from laughing).

SuperbOwls · 27/06/2022 17:35

Sarah and duck?

SuperbOwls · 27/06/2022 17:37

I liked Puffin Rock too, but think you can only get that on netflix

anystropheus · 27/06/2022 17:38

Daniel Tiger

ParadiseLaundry · 27/06/2022 17:39

It's REALLY annoying but from S2 onwards Raa Raa the Noisy Lion has more female characters than male, despite the main character being male (the spider is female apparently!)

FishfingerFlinger · 27/06/2022 17:50

Hey Duggee as previously mentioned - in addition to not being sexist there are some nice inclusive elements like one of the characters being adopted, same-sex couple etc.

Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran is sweet, the main characters are female and black and it integrates elements of Caribbean culture.

Numberblocks, as well as being IMO the finest educational show ever made, is also notable for having a good gender balance and notable absence of stereotyping (it’s actually not obvious what gender many of the characters are).

ValancyRedfern · 27/06/2022 17:55

Second NumberBlocks. The film noir episode is a work of genius! Loads of references to keep the adults entertained as well. No. 42 is Arthur Dent in his dressing gown!

It's tricky to get hold of, but Dinosaur Train is fantastic. Lots of bits of it on YouTube if you don't fancy shelling out for full series.

Storybots on Netflix and YouTube.

ParadiseLaundry · 27/06/2022 17:58

Dinosaur Train is on Netflix.

FionnulaTheCooler · 27/06/2022 17:59

Ben and Hollys Little Kingdom.

NippyWoowoo · 27/06/2022 18:01

Clangers? He might find that boring too though 😂

Masha and the Bear (Netflix)

RenegadeMrs · 27/06/2022 18:01

Sarah and Duck was much beloved in our house by both of mine.

moofolk · 27/06/2022 18:03

Push through with the Octonauts it's great!

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 27/06/2022 18:04

Oh I was going to suggest Masha and Bear. My ds loved it, there's even a spooky one for Halloween Grin

TeenPlusCat · 27/06/2022 18:06

Don't know if you can still get them but Dora the Explorer and 64 zoo lane were popular in our house.

3amAndImStillAwake · 27/06/2022 18:06

Chip and Potato on Netflix maybe?

lapasion · 27/06/2022 18:08

It took me several episodes to realise Bluey is a girl. It’s a great show. I love that Bluey and Bingo have a wide variety of adventures and aren’t stereotyped by gender. I also like that the mum joins in the fun and isn’t just portrayed as a nag, like in so many shows.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 27/06/2022 18:16

Not sure if it's the kind of show you're looking for but my 2 year old twins love Blippi and Meekah on YouTube. The majority of shows are fronted by Blippi (male) but the content is educational, completely lacking in stereotypes. I mix it up with the female fronted episodes with Meekah. They love the ones about fire trucks, planes, farms, zoos, numbers, letters, playground visits etc.

A bit older but Creature Cases is excellent - a pair of detectives (female fox, male cat) solving animal mysteries. Very much modelled on Octonauts but better gender balance, two equal leads as opposed to the main characters Barnacles, Kwazi, Peso all being male in Octonauts.

WooFighters · 27/06/2022 18:23

Thanks, dinosaur Train is a big hit.
He wasn't keen on any others yet but I will circle back as trains all day every day is dull lol!

*Bluey(sorry, I found it annoying!) I'd say given its not about you it's about your child, give it another go. Two string, different girls with a great relationship who sometimes fall out. Mixed friendship group. At school the lads play dolls and house as much as the girls do. Hands on Dad *

Go Jetters. More male than female but the pilot is female and she's not there to pick up the socks.

Tish Tash. Female lead with imaginary female friend, baby brother and two active parents.

TrobadoraBeatrice · 27/06/2022 18:30

I absolutely love Hey Duggee, but the gender balance isn't all that: 2 female Squirrels v. 3 male, plus Duggee himself and the obviously male narrator is nowhere near 50%. The minor characters are more equally balanced though.

MsJuniper · 27/06/2022 18:31

Moon and Me, Sarah and Duck, JoJo and GranGran.

Coriandersucks · 27/06/2022 18:36

My two boys have loved maddie’s ‘do you know’ and ‘graces amazing machines’ from toddlers.

I was only criticising tv the other day when yet another male led cartoon got promoted with a token female as side kick - some pirate thing on channel five.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/06/2022 18:41

Swashbuckle!
The Captain is a woman, the deckhand are male, and the lead Swashbuckler is female. The contestants are mixed..
