Boris Johnson speaks again

He says if you’re born with a penis you’re a man. He reiterates his three concerns about trans issues: Gillick competence for children receiving transitioning treatments, women’s spaces, sports. He says we need to treat people with sensitivity but he sees no reason to dissent from what FINA say is appropriate in women’s swimming.

These comments are reported in the Daily Mail and he made them on his Rwanda trip.

And stonewall are sooooo pissed off about it. Apparently the PM should not be concentrating on this topic which ‘only affects a tiny minority’. but on the many other important issues. The same stonewall who threw a fit because the government wouldn’t deal with their demands on conversion therapy during the Ukraine crisis and the fist of living crisis. They’re definitely not consistent

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 06:54

Stonewall say:

‘The real question that should be on the nation's lips is this: at a time when we are living through multiple national crises, why are journalists squandering valuable interview time by asking the Prime Minister leading questions about a tiny, vulnerable minority?’

Getting tired of these lobbyists trying to tell everyone what they are allowed to ask elected ministers. If the issue is important, and they’ve spent a decade telling us it is and we all have to care about it, then we will have to discuss it.

Have you ever been involved in strategy sessions for an organisation and done those exercises like 'If the organisation had a personality, what would it be?'.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 27/06/2022 06:58

#nodebate rearing it's ugly head yet again at Stonewall I see?

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 07:01

I don’t see what’s leading about it. He was asked about women’s swimming. That’s not a question about a vulnerable minority, it’s a question about the rules that apply to anyone who wants to compete in elite swimming.

It would be helpful if Johnson and the Cabinet actually DID something about this, notably in the NHS and schools.

We’re waiting.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 07:10

They are taking action in those areas, though. The EHRC has reversed direction. The Cass Review is imminent. Dorries is meeting the sporting bodies tomorrow. It’s not as decisive as many people would like but their actions also have to stand up in court.

They don't care about women's issues to actually do anything, they're just hot air. They are happy enough for rape to be decriminalised by the back door. This Tory party is no friend of women, but they'll say anything to keep the flames of the culture wars burning.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 27/06/2022 07:19

Another poster using very similar terminology to others in FWR posts.

The Tory Party is a poor friend to women, however the alternatives are enemies.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 07:21

I’ve never been a Tory voter but I can’t vote for any of the other parties until they regain sanity.

I loathe the tories. But one thing you can’t blame them for is the ‘culture war’. The gender identity movement, with all its attendant censorship and misogyny, is pushed by liberals and those who call themselves left wing. Conservatives have no reason to back it. They (like most people) know that humans can’t change sex. And they have no political reason to pretend they do.

Important enough to them to try and erode women’s rights over a decade without caring about women

I’m glad the tide is turning

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 07:27

‘The gender identity movement, with all its attendant censorship and misogyny, is pushed by liberals and those who call themselves left wing.’

Agree. I find it bizarre when people blame the Tories for these divisions. Johnson has avoided the issue for the best part of a decade and since his election he’s let the left wing dominate most of the machinery of government through what looks like a combination of laziness and naïveté. Not much of a war. But he’s right about this.

they are hopefully getting there. there is a bigger problem of the civil service/local government "blob" being unwilling to change. there are so many diversity champions now so embedded within those organisations that I can't see them giving up their Stonewall directed "rights as we would like them to be stated" beliefs that they have crept into policies and information

ie education - EA is frequently misstated at a high level as gender not sex. and that's the high level stuff that the public can see

nhs - nhs digital is a disgrace for removing the word women from loads of online health information, and then there is the whole scandal of single wards that contain men

I could go on and on.........

HappyHappyHermit · 27/06/2022 07:52

Trouble is he constantly lies. Saying only that which he feels will make people like him. I think it is clear by his previous treatment of women that he has absolutely no respect for them. I could never vote for a man who treats or views women like he does. His actions speak louder than his lying words.

sashagabadon · 27/06/2022 07:57

”culture wars “ are generally started by the hard left imo and then when everyone else says hang on a minute to their plans for society they claim the right have started a culture war and hasn’t everyone got more important things to worry about. It’s such hypocrisy

Starmer says some women have penises, so do you doubt him or believe him as leader of the labour party?

at least the conservatives are starting the conversation on women's rights - and there are a few politicians who are starting to offer support for single sex spaces, sport etc.

HappyHappyHermit · 27/06/2022 08:12

Starmer is not PM and I haven't seen enough of him to decide, I suspect you could have a more sensible and open debate with him though. Johnson has proven he is a liar and cannot be trusted. He treats women like dirt on his shoes.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 08:14

‘suspect you could have a more sensible and open debate with him though.’

I’m sure Starmer would stand there and hear you out with that dopey grin on his face. But afterwards he still wouldn’t do anything about adolescent transitioning.

OP posts:
HappyHappyHermit · 27/06/2022 08:18

And you believe Johnson will achieve more? Well that's for you to believe. I don't think he is a man who will ever put the country ahead of his own desperate need to have more and more money and power.

Beamur · 27/06/2022 08:20

The Tories were the party who were going to introduce self ID. They didn't. A growing body of evidence and anecdotes has persuaded them that the issue is more complicated than a simple matter of inclusion.
As ever, words are one thing and deeds another.
Labour are not showing themselves to be friends to women on this issue.
I don't know about the tide turning, but I am hopeful that a more considered conversation on the issues arising is looking more likely now.

MarshaBradyo · 27/06/2022 08:20

suspect you could have a more sensible and open debate with him though.

the big problem with Starmer is he’ll sound like he’s on the side of women but will fudge language to the extent that he means men too

It’s not open or sensible

If people wait to talk about it after he’s in I’m concerned all the small gains will be lost and we’ll be back to where we were at the peak of it all

MarshaBradyo · 27/06/2022 08:21

Actually maybe even worse if self ID happens and other

And once it happens we can see it takes decades to change back if possible
