NHS Scotland links to Eunuch Archive

The Lead Clinician of the National Gender Identity Clinical Network for Scotland just gave evidence to the Scottish Govt committee on Gender Reform this morning.

The NGICNS links to WPATH documents for information.

www.ngicns.scot.nhs.uk/information/wpath/

One of these is documents is titled 'Eunuch'. This is a pdf that includes a link to the 'Eunuch' Archives, which WPATH describes as the source of the 'greatest wealth of information' on eunuch identified people.

The Eunuch Archives have been investigated by reporters from Reduxx. Reduxx seems to be down at the moment, but their article is archived here:

I’ve just realised it’s not only the NGICNS website that’s down- the Sandyford Young Person’s Clinic website appears to have been taken down as well…

Interesting 🤔

Hagiography · 18/06/2022 08:15

That is interesting. Guessing those pages are archived? Hope so.

Are we seeing a wee bit of panic?

There actually wasn’t much on the Sandyford pages, just a bit about the service, waiting times and a link to their pamphlet for Young People (which they removed after I complained about the out of date info re puberty blockers and it took them over a year to update and post a revised version…)

Hagiography · 18/06/2022 10:52

Thanks for clarification. It does sound like a pretty unsatisfactory source of information, help, and advice, overall.

Well, a thread to archive along with Janice Turner's excellent piece.

Has the Scottish Government explained how it doesn't think eunuch is a gender identify that the NHS should be affirming, or expressed any concern about sex abuse fantasies linked with it? Or just that they didn't mean to publish it - that is let on they supported it?

Hagiography · 19/06/2022 08:45

An investigation is underway ... I'm sure they will clarify whether they consider eunuch a legitimate identity and castration for sexual gratification purposes a suitable device for the NHS to offer in due course.

I mean, I'm kidding of course. I'm sure WPATH linking to fantasies of child sex abuse does not raise any red flags or concerns about their reliability as a source of information and basis for NHS policy.

To be fair to whomever uploaded the WPATH documents to the NHS site, this is the organisation the NHS refers to as global experts. This is whom the NHS looks to to develop policy on gender.

So it's logical to have uploaded their current ' standards of care' to a website.

The deeper questions are - why the fuck are the NHS giving this shady wee organisation so much credence and legitimacy and power?

I read it that an investigation is underway into how they let the cat out of the bag.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 19/06/2022 09:27

David Parker that spoke for the NHS at the GRA submissions - does he have decision making power about the links with WPATH? He’s a nurse at Sandyford, I think? Didn’t he say he’s involved with WPATH?

Feelingoktoday · 19/06/2022 09:33

It’s all so devious and underhand. How can politicians, the top dogs at the NHS not know this stuff. Surely they know about Wpath and who is involved etc etc etc. Do they not check their sources, question, etc etc. Why are the police not checking this. What with this, the Greens etc.

WarriorN · 19/06/2022 10:15

"No debate" I expect.

If only the Lead Clinician of the National Gender Identity Clinical Network for Scotland had recently been giving testimony before a relevant national committee that might have clarified these interesting matters and improved the general understanding around this…

There's a lack of political interest in exploring the connections and flows of power around this—it's disturbing.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 19/06/2022 11:30

id be interested in who’s funding this add on organisation and what their remit is, ans why the work isn’t already covered by gender clinics and the heavily funded Scottish Trans Alliance. What did they get, 5 million over 5 years or something? And Maree Todd said there would be 9 million to improve services to come? Which is good, gender services are on their knees - but that seems because they can’t get staff. Presumably David Parker would have some insight into the workforce challenges, but he didn’t mention why training recruitment and retention seems like an impossible dream for gender? Which is odd, every other service is getting cuts, this is having NINE MILLION?

Lovelyricepudding · 19/06/2022 14:20

What sensible clinician would work for a gender service? Anyone with any integrity would run as far away as possible.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 19/06/2022 19:34

I do agree @Lovelyricepudding no guidelines or standards or evidence? Nope

Braggiography · 27/06/2022 13:26

NHSGGC site still down. Here's the message:

'The NGICNS website is currently unavailable.

23 June 2022

An adverse event occurred regarding a link to a third party site and an investigation is being carried out in line with NSS’ adverse events policy. The website is now being reviewed to ensure all content is appropriate and up to date. The website will be available again with a provisional timetable of key information being posted up in early July, with a full re-mobilisation planned by the end of August.

Details of third sector organisations that can provide help if you are a service user, please see the Sandyford and Chalmers gender identity clinic pages.'
