On now. Already had hate from both sides comment.

I’m barking up the wrong tree - what he’s saying is that the children are being denied the proper information, and he’s right.

FOJN · 13/06/2022 18:08

Another speaker - smacks of the Soviet Union

Possibly but not in the way they think.

Are these absolute nutters our elected representatives?

Are definitions a form of oppression now?

Thanks for doing this OP.

chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:10

Encouraging someone down the path without provision of information dereliction of duty. Cass review.

Duty of care - should not be coerced, or influenced into a particular position.

Glad that this debate has identified the difference between quackery and professional therapy,

OP posts:
chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:12

Anyone got details of quackery?

OP posts:
achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:12

Yes, I don’t know who they mean by ‘quacks’ - it’s deliberately obfuscatory language. Do they mean people with counselling qualifications?

chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:13

Conversion therapy = one intended outcome .

Err, is that not the affirmation model?

OP posts:
achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:13

So this latest one says it doesn’t affect consultations with ‘qualified medical professionals’. That means doctors and psychiatrists?

So is everyone else a quack?

chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:13

I don't think they know

What is he saying about parallels between detransition and cancer - or something? I've just turned it back on and I'm totally lost!

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:18

There are some real mediocrities elected to Parliament, aren’t there?

chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:18

Linden - Christian faith - bit of a ramble.

Most marginalised etc

Most conversion therapy takes place in religious settings.

This is being used as a wedge issue.

Genitalia, toilets

Worse MH issues, suicide

Bible - faith, love etc

Compassion

OP posts:
achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:20

It’s true that Christians are expected to display compassion. Compassion isn’t agreement, though. Nobody is doing anything wrong (if they are compassionate) by disagreeing that people can change sex.

Indeed!

Christians are also expected to be truthful, so saying someone is something they are not is against Christian tenet

chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:21

Not sure who is speaking now - sound in and out

145k people signed

Conflating of LGB with T again

REfugees, thatcher!

OP posts:
AnotherDayAnotherView · 13/06/2022 18:23

Is it just my imagination or are there a lot of Scots voices in this debate and there are very few people pushing back on this

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:24

So the ban is only meant to cover under 18s, not only over 18s.

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:24

There are loads of Scottish speakers. I think most MPs are just ignoring it because the government has clearly already said they’re not doing it.

So basically this entire debate is a waste of time as the "T" will not be included. There needs to be a clear definition of what is meant by "quackery"!!

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:26

Now Kirsten Oswald is taking it a step further: it’s ‘practices or conducts’ aimed at changing a person’s gender identity (to her).

ResisterRex · 13/06/2022 18:28

This debate sounds even less logical than the NB one. I feel sorry for whoever has to transcribe it.

chilling19 · 13/06/2022 18:28

Oswald - 145k signed

No debate, political football

Terrible reality of coercive practice

Twice as likely for trans to be offered conversion therapy

Very vulnerable group

Most difficult

Someone else - international conference cancelled - highlights how far the UK has slipped

Oswald - Oops she mentioned LGB and forgot the T

OP posts:
AnotherDayAnotherView · 13/06/2022 18:29

If they are not ill and do not need to be cured then why do they need surgery and drugs?

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:29

Now it’s that we need to ban ‘conversion practices’ for our international standing.

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 18:33

So ‘terfs’ are in bed with Christian extremists (as we’re told all the time) but now Christians mostly support a ban on conversion practices?

Aye right.
