If a company has the new pride flag as their background do you think that it means they subscribe to the erasure of women?

I do wonder if the tide of public opinion is now turning

I have a real issue with this, and think it is true. I campaigned for same sex marriage and yet now I haven't bought from a company flying the new flag because it doesn't represent equality anymore. This makes me sad, it is leading to less tolerance not more.

Many political symbols existed long before they were appropriated and politicised, however they will ever after carry the connotations.

Rainbows on a person for me now as a homosexual female make me immediately wary of whether they are stating affiliation to politics that would reject me and my rights in two ways and require my conformity. If you're a member of the public, that's not an issue. But if you're about to be my hcp or you're a police officer who I need help from - that's a large problem.

TheBiologyStupid · 08/06/2022 19:59

Long live the rainbow!

Indeed! Although, "All that you fear they're telling you, can't happen here can it?" (Apologies in advance for the probably obscure rock lyric reference...)

Kids books are really shit these days. If it isn't Pride it's something else, they are all horribly didactic and have only the thinnest of stories to cover that, if they have any story at all.

I work in libraries and it's interesting, one that I work in keeps it's collection very new as a matter of policy, and if you go in there looking for a storybook it is slim picking. Lots of books but not many you would want to read. The other is happy to keep older books that are in good shape and there are tons of good stories.

I've always felt that the best books are the ones no longer in print. I could spend hours in a second hand book stall.

Well, you are assuming the rainbow = pride.
It's actually a symbol of hope for many people, triumph over adversity in life etc.

How do you know the hcp or police officer isn't wearing a rainbow to symbolise a rainbow baby for example.

I think you are wrong to assume

Just to clarify I don't mean an official work item like a lanyard. But a rainbow bracelet/ring for example.

I think if it's a photo of a rainbow-clad police officer during Pride year month with the caption "PC Plod out in XYZ today celebrating our LGBTQ+ colleagues" it's safe to say they're not celebrating the birth of a rainbow baby!

Are they allowed to be rainbow clad whilst on duty? I thought they had strict uniform rules.
Well of course the caption/ location would put a different slant on things!

Metabigot · 08/06/2022 22:57

First they took the word woman.

Then mother.

Then breastfeeding.

Then female

And now... they take... the RAINBOW 🌈

Frankly at this point, I have much bigger things to worry about as a homosexual female as to whether or not another female is going to judge me for being insufficiently unassuming, open minded and naice.

I am sorry to hear that.

Sending you non-transy rainbows of hope 🌈

Rainbow logos usually remind me first of the defunct clothes shop C&A Confused. I believe it's still a thing on the continent?

As a corporate logo, I take it to mean that it's just a gestureHmm. If it's got the chevrons Angry.

But I still love real rainbows 🌈.

So, just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder. Postmates, a food delivery company, have made a handy informational Pride video teaching bottoms what they can eat so their digestive tract doesn't prevent them taking a big, leather clad, aubergine up the peach.
