Sally Hines has tweeted to say, ‘Interrupting my holiday silence to say that Helen Joyce is an absolute disgrace. Anyone who does not condemn her recent tirade is complicit in eugenicism.’

Helen Joyce says SH needs to delete, retract and apologise or she will take legal action, no discussion.

Is Sally going to court?

I know I’ll help out with the crowdfunder just to see her try to explain how trying to resolve dysphoria is eugenics.

Another absolutely bonkers thing to add to the incredibly long list of absolutely bonkers things SH has said, but this time with added libel.

It makes me so angry when they DARVO. Helen Joyce isn't out there sterilising kids who don't fit in, who are gay, have mental health issues or autism, Sally.

tabbycatstripy · 05/06/2022 19:59

No, she isn’t. She thinks it would be better for everyone if fewer people transitioned. That is certainly a controversial view and some will find it offensive. Without evidence that a) being transgender has a genetic component to it, and b) that Joyce wants to prevent those people being born, it’s not eugenics.

So I think Hines should put the bargain basement negronis down and yeet the tweet.

Hurcum has repeated the same accusation, foolish young man.

tabbycatstripy · 05/06/2022 20:03

The only way I’m aware anyone could have prevented that particular person ‘transitioning’ is by thwarting their access to silly hats.

Yes, I haven't donated to a crowd funder for a week or so. So I'm on full standby.

Let's everything on the table. What she said, why she said it, what it means and what the implications are.

Let's have it.

Datun · 05/06/2022 20:06

*get everything

dropthevipers · 05/06/2022 20:08

PhD. in sociology. Well, aint that just drawing the academic short straw.

tabbycatstripy · 05/06/2022 20:09

Definitely feels like approaching boss level now. HJ (whether you agree with what she says or not) doesn’t look like backing down and Sally might just be mad enough (or drunk enough - she’s on her hols) to talk herself into trying to explain her position.

Anyone got Ben Cooper’s speed dial?

Happy to contribute to another crowdfunder.

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/06/2022 20:15

I need to pat down my winter coat pockets for fivers, not done that yet as winter went on so long.
Happy to do some gardening.

I don’t know that they is known for their coherent logic on much.

Helleofabore · 05/06/2022 20:18

Oohhh another session with BC QC? I will get my wallet.

No need to get offensive about a perfectly legitimate academic discipline. Being a sociologist doesn't make you a TRA.

FemaleAndLearning · 05/06/2022 20:28

Eugenics? If girls are having hysterectomies to become boys and boys are inverting their penises to make a vagina aren't they sterilising themselves and carrying eugenics out on themselves as a group?

dropthevipers · 05/06/2022 20:32

jimboandthejetset · 05/06/2022 20:21

According to wiki, in Sally's case it very much does.

tabbycatstripy · 05/06/2022 20:37

Owen Jones sticking his penny’s worth in. The best he can do is repost Joyce’s comments. If they were making a case for eugenics he’d say so. He knows they aren’t, so he doesn’t, because he knows it would be defamatory.

NecessaryScene · 05/06/2022 20:37

I think Sally Hines might be stupid and fanatical enough to not back down on her own, but any lawyer (unless also stupid, fanatical and/ or unethical) will explain to her (very slowly, and using Lego if necessary) that she really won't win this, so she should quit while she's not too far behind.

So I suspect we don't get to have any courtroom fun or proper punishment, just a grumpy apology. :(

OldCrone · 05/06/2022 20:41

Isn't it the genderists who are proposing eugenics? At about 10 mins into that discussion, Helen Joyce talks about homophobic parents who trans their little boys who want to wear dresses because they would rather have a sterile 'daughter' than a gay son. Transgenderism is gay eugenics.

tabbycatstripy · 05/06/2022 20:41

How long does someone have to retract before (whether or not they apologise before you drag them into court) they can be considered to have defamed you?

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 05/06/2022 20:42

But also what are the odds Hines has a lawyer?

OP posts:
MaudeYoung · 05/06/2022 20:46

Unfortunately for Ms Hines, Ms Joyce has a wealth of material in the public domain (search You Tube) plus her book (Trans when ideology meets reality) which clearly establish her views.

It is possible that what Hines has done here is jump on a bandwagon that is erroneous, a bandwagon that is rooted in a malicious attempt by a few UK-based "transactivists" to discredit Ms Joyce.

Those UK-based "transactivists" have already identified themselves on Twitter.

It would be good to see these "transactivists" justify themselves, under oath, in court.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 05/06/2022 20:46

Oh pleaeaase let HJ take Hines to court! It would be bloody brilliant

FOJN · 05/06/2022 20:47

If Helen can endure even more hassle and vitriol which will surely come her way then I will happily garden for her.

Birdsweepsin · 05/06/2022 20:57

Trowel and trug at the ready Helen

MaudeYoung · 05/06/2022 21:21

Given the evidence obtained via Twitter from just two / three "transactivists", they seriously need to avoid any defamation action. My "bet" is most definitely placed with Ms Joyce. The weight of evidence is far too much in her favour, given everything else in the public domain.
