Friend shared this from a Women's Rights Network tweet

So new categories Lightening and Thunder for those with a gender identity, meaning men in women's cycling. But if you are 'cis' you can't choose your category. Confused yes me too. Anyone got more info?

Is the 'most closely aligns with...' criterion just down to an individual competitor to decide? Which as trans and 'non-binary' also seem to be a matter of self-identification nowadays ... what this means is anyone can compete in either category if they want.

And given that the only reason we have 2 categories in sport is because humans have 2 sexes and are dimorphic.... this is inevitably of benefit to males and to the detriment of females.

It's misogynistic and discriminatory. Unfair. Deceitful. And the fact anyone who complains gets called 'transphobic' is just plain downright nasty.

Yes. If that is her toddler, and she is still wishing to compete at UK National championship level for her sport, she is in a very tough situation as it is.

From reading the statements from her club, I doubt she would be still welcome there if she felt females should have have their own race.

Or maybe they did… still waiting for confirmation that there was indeed a female race that would give females an equal and fair opportunity to win…..

Let’s wait errol. Maybe, just maybe we will get answers as to what is transphobic about discussions here.

Surely the posters so keen to attempt to shame others by pointing out how Jo Smith released a supportive tweet without engaging with much else, or how this was ‘an inclusive’ event without engaging how it is inclusive to females will answer the questions I asked.

Maybe they will also realise their level of engagement does nothing to further making male sports more inclusive to all males. Or addressing the imbalance of some
athletes being able to make decisions to follow performance limiting treatments and simply move into a protected category where they have physical and other advantages and other athletes not being able to that.

Here is a more direct question.

If two adult males have low testosterone, one due to treatment, one not, will BOTH males be able to enter female sports categories?

If not why not? And if one can, how is that not discrimination against the other?

I am not an expert on Thundercrit or the people behind it but I think / suspect that they are a very very informal cycling club under the auspices of British Cycling but only in the loosest possible way. Affiliated and subject to rules (which they may or may not be in breech of), but really it 's pretty informal.

Not that this makes such gross bigotry in telling women cyclists that they don't matter OK.

There's a website I used to frequent that is related to cycling. In the news thread the Thundercrit subject has been brought up. As I knew would happen we would have a handful of men spouting the TRA position. Mentions of the Daily Heil. No new insights! A woman has spoken up with a very very considered post, asking questions about what it means to be a woman and sex-based rights. All questions. Not saying what she thinks, though she is strongly hinting at it. A year ago she posted something and mentioned she was fearful of saying anything... there was a pile on and she deleted her first post and a couple of brief follow-ups. I wonder how it is going to pan out this time. Her post is really really brilliant as it goes - all about her experiences and questions see has. Nothing even vaguely objectionable to any reasonable person, even by the standards of the politer side of the GC movement.
