That's a great article and so pleased to see it in the Guardian where it can reach so many captured souls.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/05/2022 08:44

Really good article from Sonia.

tabbycatstripy · 29/05/2022 08:47

This one was CM and the cotton ceiling. CM being an oddly convenient choice of a person to handle the ‘advice’ to GCC.

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/05/2022 08:49

It's a good article - it's in the Observer (Sunday Guardian) which has published similar articles before. Not a chance it would appear in the weekday guardian!

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 29/05/2022 08:50

Brilliant article. I wonder whether OJ’s seen it?

SomersetONeil · 29/05/2022 08:50

Good article.

Why, oh why, is it ALWAYS transwomen making demands? You don’t see transmen demanding to have sex with gay men.

And you certainly don’t see gay men being expected to, or be willing to, have sex with men with breasts and vaginas.

SunnyLobelia · 29/05/2022 08:53

I am astonished this was in the Guardian. Is it too much to hope that The G realises that they just might be on the wrong side of history and in the past few years have only been giving a platform to bigots?

That might explain it then.

Amazing article, so eloquently put.

Exactly this. Misogyny pure and simple

JustWaking · 29/05/2022 09:00

But shaming an oppressed sexual minority into dropping their boundaries, or risk being tarnished a bigot within the LGBT community, is inherently coercive.

It's as simple as that. Brilliant article.

agree. She nailed it

Cathryn McGahey doing solid work for the reputation of the ethics committee of the Bar Council in the eye of the public.

I wonder if the Heads of Chambers and QCs of Garden Court Chambers are having to actually read emails about these newspaper articles and their wider reputation now. Or are they still skimming them because the weekend is a sort of holiday and they might be thinking of travelling.

BenCooperisaGod · 29/05/2022 09:18

Sonia is the voice of reason on this in the left leaning mainstream media.

It was the cotton ceiling that really switched me on to the darker side of transactivism, and started me off asking more questions. Once you start paying attention and asking the right questions, it becomes so clear that the misogyny is off the scale.

There is more to be said on this. Pushing the racism metaphor to its logical conclusion. Lesbians maintaining same sex attraction are the white supremacist minority, and transwomen are the oppressed minority, being denied WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY THEIRS.

This is the same old thing, men being entitled to womens bodies.

In this metaphor, Allison (a black, lesbian, working class survivor of sexual abuse) is Eugene Terreblanche and India Willoughby is Nelson Mandela. That is just how fucked up that metaphor is.

Or they have young kids in the car doncha know.

IAAL and my firm and most of our preferred chambers were agog this week. It has been much gossiped about at the water cooler. (In between football and Mariah Carey of course).

PrelateChuckles · 29/05/2022 09:36

So many analyses of the gender ideology debate characterise it as a conflict of rights between women and trans people. But there are plenty of trans people who shun gender ideology and some women who embrace it. It is really a conflict of rights between people who want gender identity to replace biological sex in society and people, particularly women, who believe sex is relevant.

Good point.

Hoardasurass · 29/05/2022 09:42

What a good article and surprisingly they are asking for letters from the public on this subject for publication 😱

ResisterRex · 29/05/2022 09:43

But it's not in Penis News, so they won't read it!

I wonder if a number of people who lived in South Africa during that period of history might have views that they'd care to express about these comparisons and how well they stand up?

Metabigot · 29/05/2022 09:47

The imbalance between transmen and transwomen does rather prove the point that TW are not W and TM are not M.

Gendered souls my arse....

NecessaryScene · 29/05/2022 09:48

But it's not in Penis News, so they won't read it!

Do we need a revised version of this bit from Yes Prime Minister? To explain why Prick News and the online remnants of the Independent are the go-to sources for barristers?

Times have clearly moved on.

Madcats · 29/05/2022 09:52

Meanwhile, in Twitterland, last night Billy Bragg proclaimed that people who think that "female" is a biological fact, rather than a "feeling", are not so different to Nazis and White supremacists.

You can imagine how well that's going down with most of his 300k followers and followers of followers.

I really had no idea all this stuff was going on until I stumbled onto one of the Alison Bailey discussions about a fortnight ago.

Thank you "old fashioned women".

It feels as if mainstream press are beginning to notice.

334bu · 29/05/2022 09:54

Thanks for link.

Metabigot · 29/05/2022 09:54

I see the observer is accepting submissions for opinions on this issue from readers.

Not sure if I will do so myself but thought it worth pointing out in case anyone wishes to do so.

They are bound to get the TRA crowd writing in and saying the usual genital fetishism/ waaa waaa waaa unfair crap

NecessaryScene · 29/05/2022 10:02

So good to hear that! That's why we're pouring money into crowdfunders for people like Allison. (And have been for years!)

Sunlight, sunlight, sunlight.

The more people that hear about this the better. This is not a movement that can withstand scrutiny, and they know it. They work very hard to stay behind-the-scenes, avoid public scrutiny, use quiet lobbying, and attach things to more popular causes.

Some stuff on that in these two threads - particularly the infamous "Dentons report". 1 2
