Mary Anning Rocks campaigned for and have now successfully installed a statue to the amazing Mary Anning (love her as am into fossils and feminism). Hooray to that!

They have now apologised on the twitter for putting suffragette coloured ribbons on her as they 'didn't realise they were associated with anti-trans views' 🙄

I feel a bit sorry for them as there were clearly lobbied from one side and are now getting it handed to them on a plate about how ridiculous this is.

Transwomen, as demonstrated by the trans peer, would have retained male privilege even after transitioning and would have got the vote way earlier than women did. So yes, suffragettes, suffragists and the rest are ours.

Worldgonecrazy · 28/05/2022 20:22

Sadly no ribbons today. Probably better that way as the anti women activists would probably consider damaging / vandalising the statue if they perceive their feelings have been hurt.

They are really gonna freak when they notice the colour scheme this year in Langmore Gardens! Right next to the rather stupid paedophile slogan ‘Love is love’ artwork they painted without researching the origins of that phrase.

But Mary looks amazing and stands as a beacon for women with or without ribbons.

When you say "ours" do you mean all women, or gender critical women? Because I've seen many GC groups claiming the suffragettes as their own and any woman who supports trans women for any reason, even those who have trans family / friends, are accused of being anti-women and anti-suffrage, 'traitors to the cause'. Simply for supporting their .loved ones.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/05/2022 21:03

I imagine ours means women.

ControversialOpening · 28/05/2022 21:19

Feminists support all women. Including those we disagree with, including those who claim they are anti-feminist, and including transmen (who after all are still female). All women.

Not men though, or transwomen (who remain male). It’s not anti-men or anti-transwomen, it’s just not about them. This upsets many males.

MagnoliaTaint · 28/05/2022 22:07

This upsets many males.

There's the understatement of the week.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/05/2022 22:45

'Ours' women.

Don't be angry with the Mary Anning Rocks people though - the girl who made this happen was only 10 when she started the campaign and is now 13. Let's not make her lose her enthusiasm! She deserves all the 👏🏼 for her achievement.

They are very possibly worried that the statue will be defaced by activists if they don't remove the ribbons. We know that many of these people beyond spiteful - look at the park bench after Ricky Gervais upset them with his Netflix show.

Sorry it took me so long to get back, the hive mind has been busy today....biscuits....you know!

Lavenderlast · 26/05/2022 17:23

That’s right. Any conversation about women must have a transwoman at the centre of it, preferably controlling the conversation, wearing a medal, and towering a foot above actual women. Anything else is offensive.

It is particularly offensive to discuss women’s feelings, needs, or 😱 legal rights, unless it is clear thet these are at all times subordinate to those of transwomen.

I'm sure it won't be long before we are told that it was a "TW" who found the first fossil at Lyme Regis.

RadFemApparently · 26/05/2022 18:02

Is it just me or is anyone else glad that at least the TRA haven't tried to 'claim' the Suffragettes as their own and try to make out that they would have been fighting field their rights too? I feel like I'm getting grateful for such small pathetic things these days though so I might just be me.

Imagine feminists wanting to celebrate the Suffragettes 🙄 ...

There has already been stuff on Twitter that Mrs P would have supported trans rights if she'd been alive now. 🙄

She would have kicked their backsides (metaphorically speaking. Emmiline knew damn well what a woman is.

I’m sure I’ve seen TRA’s claim the suffragette colours as their own and also claim that Emmeline Pankhurst would have supported them

Just read down a bit and saw your post @WildIris - yes, they were all over her at one point.

MintyMoocow · 29/05/2022 08:10

But that’s when all this trouble started.. when they gave us the vote!

We we’re a lot less trouble before then.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/05/2022 07:58

Never fear!

Monty is here!

Useless twat. 🤨

Useless wanna-have tw*t 😏

Waitwhat23 · 29/05/2022 08:22

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I've seen people on Twitter who seem genuinely confused as to why the suffragettes co-opted one of the gender flags (genderqueer I think).

It's quite astounding.

ArcheryAnnie · 29/05/2022 08:41

and any woman who supports trans women for any reason, even those who have trans family / friends, are accused of being anti-women and anti-suffrage, 'traitors to the cause'. Simply for supporting their loved ones

What do you mean by "support", though, @Starlee ? We all, I imagine, have friends and family members who believe very different things than we do. Many of us who are GC have also experienced dysphoria ourselves. It's possible to have sympathy and support for an individual without also supporting their attempts to trample over the rights and boundaries of another group.

PonyPatter44 · 29/05/2022 09:21

Starlee, being pro-women (all of them, not just the 'acceptable ' ones) isn't the same as anti-trans. If my kid wanted to convert to Judaism, I would drive him to synagogue and to Hebrew class, but it wouldn't mean that the rest of us would stop going to church or Sunday, or saying grace before dinner.

Maybe you are the one who can explain, what rights are trans people seeking, that they don't already have?

Helleofabore · 29/05/2022 09:42

I think we are seeing the usual prejudice from some
posters. That people who support the need for recognizing sex above gender when sex matters are not capable of ‘supporting’ trans people.

Do such people honestly think ALL trans people think alike? Do they believe that trans people who prioritize sex when it matters are transphobic?

Do they also think that posters on MN are ‘anti-trans’ because posters don’t conform to the speech patterns dictated by the more extremist trans activists? Do those posters look at their beliefs and wonder if they are aligned with the extremist trans activists?

And finally, do those posters think they are the only people on MN supporting their friends and loved one who are trans?

Like we haven’t heard this or seen it said daily on this board…. How wonderfully new!

TroublesomeLuck · 07/08/2022 14:41

I think the person behind this had a few too many sherries last night... posted on twitter about them all being trans friendly, and then was just plain rude to people who pulled her up on it.

They've apparently received nasty posts over the past few weeks (not that I can see anything has been deleted). It seems such a shame that she has turned such a fantastic thing into this.

LizzieSiddal · 07/08/2022 15:47

@TroublesomeLuck Do you mean the person behind the statue?

TroublesomeLuck · 07/08/2022 16:03

Yes. Sorry, that wasn’t very clear, was it!

TroublesomeLuck · 07/08/2022 16:06

It's such a shame. I thought that after the debacle in May they were going to stay away from posting about this. But the tweets last night were worse than ever. In particular the latest ones about "tomboys" being gender fluid has made me really cross

TroublesomeLuck · 07/08/2022 23:36

Haha, and now I've been blocked from their twitter feed for a completely innocuous tweet - mental. It was honestly nothing horrible, or could be considered in any way "anti trans"... how depressing

Worldgonecrazy · 08/08/2022 07:24

I only saw the ‘TW are TW’ post.

I have no idea what’s behind the slightly drunken ramblings. I do know that there is a very real risk that if they are being targeted by male/trans rights activists, if they don’t publicly shout the TWAW the statue would be at very real risk of vandalism and damage from those activists.

There is a strong feminist presence in the area, so I guess all we need to do is wait patiently for a few years. Mary will still be there, we will still have our ribbons, and the angry activists will have grown the fuck up or moved on to their next mission.

But will the pharmaceutical companies and their friends stop pushing their drugs?

RhannionKPSS · 23/11/2022 21:16

Yes they will, if we keep pushing back.
Virginia Woolf has her beautiful statue now too, and next we will have a proper Mary Wollstonecraft statue.
Those women are constant, just as we women are.
