Are we explicitly banned from mentioning it? The Special Rules do not display on the app.

OP posts:

What’s going on with the modding? I thought things had become a little more sensible recently, but I’ve been deleted twice recently purely for stating medical facts; and earlier today I clicked on a thread in AIBU and found a deletion message claiming that “the OP was uncivil to trans people”.

Now if you deleted for incivility the whole of AIBU would be like a Swiss cheese. What’s going on with the spurious deletions that don’t actually fit in with the talk guidelines?

MagnoliaTaint · 25/05/2022 22:26

Yep, just been a pretty tame, polite thread deleted in chat for no apparent reason.

Actually the same deletion message, about being 'uncivil'. Which was not true. I read the whole thread. Nobody was uncivil.

nightwakingmoon · 25/05/2022 22:29

Reality is, unfortunately, terribly uncivil for some people, it seems.

AvocadoAndToast · 25/05/2022 22:30

Please can someone explain, or PM me, the reference to the perfectly ordinary, albeit very beautiful and expensive little village in Cheshire and women’s rights?
I am a regular NC’er and have seen the village named before but am lost about its significance.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4267555-Bunburys-Thirteenth-edition-unlucky-for-some

This was the thread that resulted in me spending £3.50 on a brew in an uncomfortable cafe. Stale cake too.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 25/05/2022 23:05

Home of the Dysart arms…. I am a local

ErrolTheDragon · 26/05/2022 00:13

If Bunbury has become too contentious, perhaps we should try Basingstoke instead? (That's a Gilbert&Sullivan reference denoting dull respectability)

Childrenofthestones · 26/05/2022 01:31

Crickey, this is like watching an episode of Only Connect and realising just how thick you are.

DdraigGoch

Can someone please explain the origin of the reference (the one named after a village in Cheshire which is not to be confused with a similarly-named town in Oxfordshire)?

I always assumed it was Oscar Wilde.

OED : Bxxxy "An imaginary person used as a fictitious excuse for visiting a place or avoiding obligations (see [eg] O. Wilde Importance of being Earnest i. 14). Hence used allusively in various formations."

But I may be wrong ...

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · Yesterday 08:59

I think you are right sow

[Just wondered if that C-and-P would work.]

The little village, AvocadoAndToast , is serendipitously named for the non-existent but nevertheless-useful-as-a-distractive-excuse character in that play. Nothing specifically about women's rights.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/05/2022 09:30

Eh. I'd take a Bakewell Pudding over a Banbury any day - but I'd walk it off in them their hills nearby though.

Yes, those blue hills.

(If I have remembered them correctly.)

Moodycow78 · 26/05/2022 09:48

A thread on the place which must not be named, shame on you!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/05/2022 09:54

Dunno about blue but there is a dark type of hill and a while type of hill in them their hills.

Ohnohedident · 26/05/2022 10:16

We cant say Bunbury anymore?
What is someone posts a parking issue and lives there?

Ohnohedident · 26/05/2022 10:21

We could just post this.

'What is the deal with the Mornington Crescent thing? I've never quite got it.'

There is no deal. Its all entirely random, thats the joke.

Silly really but it makes me snigger.

Mochudubh

i posted this once and it got deleted…so I don’t reckon it’d be long before fish face went

Ah. See, that's where you're going wrong.

Sniggering triggers a reverse. You'll need to retrace your steps, I think, and try again from around Tuesday afternoon.

see! See! 😩

MayorDusty · 26/05/2022 11:45

You need to be fluent in rhubarb and the London underground for Mornington.
It's yet another over invested Southerncentric weapon to destabilise northerners.
I propose we investigate the possibilities of a New Levelling Up scheme to be more inclusive and ask for suggestions on names and recognisable image for said levelled inclusive scheme.
With bank holidays off.
