Are we explicitly banned from mentioning it? The Special Rules do not display on the app.

OP posts:
aprofoundhistoricalnovalty · 24/05/2022 22:26

I had to download a very useful app- but have found the destination!
Banned? Seriously?

NelliesGoat · 24/05/2022 22:27

Home Fires was filmed there. 😉

CheshireCats · 24/05/2022 22:36

Can someone please explain why Bunbury (which I live very close to) is banned??!

Helleofabore · 24/05/2022 22:40

I have been deleted numerous times for mentioning either taking notice of that township or that Mrs B would advise going for a walk.

Got deleted for mentioning I was walking through hills too.

I believe it may be considered hunting for things starting with T that sometimes live under bridges. Or to be not in the spirit.

I now talk about checking on the quokkas.

ChagSameachDoreen · 24/05/2022 22:51

What??

MagnoliaTaint · 24/05/2022 22:52

The Place With No Name?

Penguintears · 24/05/2022 22:54

I am so confused.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/05/2022 22:55

The 13th Edition is close to the top of the board at the moment so it's still in existence.

JellySaurus · 24/05/2022 22:57

I don't see how it can be 'not in the spirit of the site' to encourage posters to keep their cool and avoid posting something that will be screenshotted in order to call MN into disrepute.

I don't see how it can be 'not in the spirit of the site' to encourage posters not to engage in attempts to derail threads.

I've had a post erased for linking to one of the related threads. Confused

Helleofabore · 24/05/2022 23:09

Well OP, I think it has to do with it not being welcoming and making some people feel excluded.

Waitwhat23 · 24/05/2022 23:13

Has anyone had a deletion message from MNHQ to say why the place we must not name has been banned or are related posts or posts using the name just being deleted with no explanation?

Helleofabore · 24/05/2022 23:20

I think I had one that said it was nits.

Helleofabore · 24/05/2022 23:22

I mean, I also was once deleted for warning people that screenshots had been taken by a particular poster a day or so before the posted started a new thread.

DdraigGoch · 24/05/2022 23:40

Can someone please explain the origin of the reference (the one named after a village in Cheshire which is not to be confused with a similarly-named town in Oxfordshire)?

Waitwhat23 · 24/05/2022 23:42

Helleofabore · 24/05/2022 23:20

Took me a couple of seconds to work out you're not referring to headlice 😄

nightwakingmoon · 24/05/2022 23:43

I got deleted the other day, apparently, according to the deletion message, because my post implied that gender dysphoria is a psychiatric condition (which it in fact is, listed right there in the DSM-5); but apparently medical fact these days is highly offensive, apparently, and grounds for being censored in case anyone is offended by factual reality.

Wondering if I post on the Health board about my asthma being a medical condition I’ll get deleted for highly offensive factmongering.

Don’t fact shame me, I can’t help it! I just can’t help those facts, baby!

I always assumed it was Oscar Wilde.

OED : Bxxxy "An imaginary person used as a fictitious excuse for visiting a place or avoiding obligations (see [eg] O. Wilde Importance of being Earnest i. 14). Hence used allusively in various formations."

But I may be wrong ...

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 25/05/2022 08:59

I think you are right sow

BenCooperisaGod · 25/05/2022 09:20

Now i am confused. I had always thought that mention of the place where little cakes are placed beneath the soil in a thread was not necessarily about T hunting, more a helpful reminder to posters that it is not always sensible to engage. I would have thought MNHQ would welcome such sage advice.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 25/05/2022 09:23

You’d think ben

but apparently not

screenshot warnings are not in favour

Phobiaphobic · 25/05/2022 09:25

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/05/2022 22:01

i don’t really remember what the special rules were

but i do remember that posting that little biscuit emoji is a deletable offence on the feminism board

and you can’t say cult or peak or bunbury…which is a new one on me

and this post maybe considered inflammatory

or not in the spirit which is a nebulous thing at the best of times

Yeah, I got a week's ban for using the c word.

BenCooperisaGod · 25/05/2022 09:26

Really, why ever not? Seems like a very sensible thing to highlight that single posts can be screen shot, stuck on twitter and taken totally out of context. People will forget/not be aware. I see it as the same as the Daily Mail warnings.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 25/05/2022 09:29

I suppose cos saying that implies that the poster is not posting in good faith and thats not in the spirit of mumsnet

i think we should just run round yelling ITS A TRAP

still be deleted bit it’ll be a lot more dramatic

IcakethereforeIam · 25/05/2022 09:30

I hadn't realised it was a place, I thought it was an ineffable state of mind.

Actually, knowing FWR probably 'effable' is more accurate.
