On now. I don’t know who this guy is who is speaking but he’s just said, “It ain’t fair and it’s not right” and he is a LEGEND.

Watch and comment!

It's like whenever anyone says 'non-binary' everyone slides into incomprehensible waffle or can't actually make sense of anything ...

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 17:35

Freer just confirming that the government has no plan to change the Equality Act.

Says some people feel change can be too slow and people ‘take convincing’. He believes non-binary issue is an emerging issue.

Same old arguments about progressivism, as if the ultimate direction of travel is established and it’s about ‘speed’. He’s now talking about how non-binary identities go back 2,000 years, I think.

'under the non-binary umbrella are of all sexualities' - how are they?

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:37

'We need more data'

2 + 2 = 4, there you go.

Not of sufficient quality - that's because it's meaningless.

Non-binary means one doesn't 100% identify with masculine or feminine stereotypes; it's a term devoid of meaning, weight, or import.

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 17:37

Oswald back on her feet asking about conversion therapy again.

OP posts:
MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:37

Oh, conversion therapy again. That's a different argument.

'I have no views'

How very non-binary.

Good to hear him say 'no, thank you'

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/05/2022 17:38

she's smooshed 'non binary and intersex' into a category

That's a thing that they do. Most people don't understand what either are, so it's to the TRAs' benefit if they think they are the same and seemingly gives "non binary" the scientific legitimacy it categorically does not have.

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:39

Single sex spaces:

EHRC guidance.

all sides agree clarity round single sex spaces is a position we're getting to - important to retain single sex spaces - whoop!

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:39

Prisons - rules were changed 3 years ago, since then no issues.

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:40

'not true that a prisoner can self-ID'

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:40

For many years transgender people have used single sex spaces in their acquired gender. We have no wish to curtail this.

WarriorN · 23/05/2022 17:41

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:27

conversion therapy?

Has anyone ever been converted out of a non-binary identity? Ever?

That made me snort!

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:41

So in one breath he says they will defend/protect single sex spaces for women and children, and in another he says that it's fine for transwomen to use women's single sex spaces?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 23/05/2022 17:41

no views, work in progress, can't be tempted down that particular path.

And he restates that everyday issues will be addressed. So, no matter what Monotors say, he has repeated what many here say.

Now single sex spaces... clarification, spaces reserved for womean girls to be maintained; prisons - the rules were changed 3 years ago an since then no cases... but includes "down to where they are on their trans journey" so... GRC = woman then!

And now the use of single sex space, we won't change the fact that transwomen use female spaces, clarity, choices, not changing. OK... so it is as legal to say no as it is to say yes! CHOICE!

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 17:41

Freer commenting on single sex spaces and saying it’s important that some spaces be reserved for women and girls.

Talk about prisons, though, and clear he doesn’t think prisons are one of those spaces. He says it’s not true that prisoners can self-identify.

Now he says single sex spaces should still be open to trans people in their gender.

Minister Freer: that provides no clarity whatsoever.

Now he’s talking about trans-identifying children and says GIDS doesn’t provide surgeries and puberty blockers are a matter for the NHS.

Miriam Cates intervenes.

Zerogravity · 23/05/2022 17:41

I don't get what they want to happen. If people can be officially nb will we have, for example, three categories of prisons? In which case we'll pretty soon need to have non-binary female and non-binary male. 😆

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:41

Miriam Cates on puberty blockers - no evidence - effects not known

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 17:42

‘So in one breath he says they will defend/protect single sex spaces for women and children, and in another he says that it's fine for transwomen to use women's single sex spaces?’

Yes. Freer is a huge issue and he should be removed. He makes no sense and clearly is trying to straddle a very silly line indeed.

OP posts:
SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 23/05/2022 17:42

Woman stands up to say no evidence for puberty blockers in trans therapy - who she?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/05/2022 17:42

Miriam Cates is excellent.

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:43

it’s important that some spaces be reserved for women and girls.

...

Now he says single sex spaces should still be open to trans people in their gender.

I thought that was a Labour fudge; seems the Tories are up for it also.

MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:43

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 23/05/2022 17:42

Cates.

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 17:44

He is being clearly asked by Loughton whether a 12 year old can have capacity to consent to puberty blockers.

Freer says under 18s can’t make irreversible decisions. But he can’t explain it. He doesn’t understand it.

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 17:44

Freer is incompetent.

OP posts:
MagnoliaTaint · 23/05/2022 17:46

Yep.

Does anyone else feel that 'non-binary' has a kind of repelling force-field around it - they are talking about everything but non-binary.
