Posie Parker thinks he's 'delightful'.

Posie Parker isn't many people on here, is she? She isn't even one person on here.

There's lots of fans in this thread

SpindleInTheWind · 22/05/2022 18:48

Am I on that thread, @Oddysee? It's not coming on my "I'm On" list.

SpindleInTheWind · 22/05/2022 18:50

I've just been on it though and seen this:

iirc Posie Parker was her MN name. And then she (and her family, parents, kids, etc) were all doxed by TRAs.

Ffs. The woman's got kids at home. Why are TRAs so damn vicious?

ScreamingMeMe · 22/05/2022 18:51

Oddysee · 22/05/2022 18:42

I found precisely two posters who said they actually liked him. The rest of the thread was discussing the merits (or not) of Posie Parker appearing on his show, which isn't the same thing at all

BordoisAgain · 22/05/2022 18:53

Oddysee · 22/05/2022 18:42

Fans?

Blimey disingenuous much?

AlisonDonut · 22/05/2022 18:54

Oddysee · 22/05/2022 18:42

Looks like a range of opinions on that thread. With most people not saying he is delightful.

One says they like him.

Not sure what your point is. Shall I get the Trello board out for you for these pointless tenuous connections?

IncompleteSenten · 22/05/2022 18:54

Fans of Posie or of this bloke?

I'm confused.

Following the conversation or trying to - quoting posts here -

Many here think he's the bee's knees.

Which poster said he was the bee's knees?

Posie Parker thinks he's delightful.

Pp isn't many people on here, she isn't even one person on here.

There are lots of fans here ... Link to thread about Posie.

So? People on another thread on here have said they like Posie therefore because Posie has said this bloke is delightful this means lots of people on here think he is the bee's knees.

I'm trying to follow the logic here but I'm just not able to get it.

How is what some posters think about a woman connected to what others may think about a bloke?

I think I was one of those posters.

I'm a 'fan' and I don't care who disapproves.

But as I have already said, I make my own minds up about people. I don't give permission to other people to do it for me.
I will listen to people whose beliefs I object to in order to hear what they say for myself and reach my own opinions of them.
I do not submit to accusations of racism or misogyny or any other such means or fear mongering and allow it to dissuade me from hearing what they say before I decide that for myself.

But then this why Posie brought me into reluctantly investigating feminism.
It was/is refreshing to see a woman who fights for women's rights, without being ideologically possessive. She has brought a hell of a lot of women onside.
She is diverse in her views, and while I don't agree with her on everything, not once on her own forum have I heard her shut down someone for daring to listen to someone she doesn't agree with.

So yeah. I was the one person, on the one thread.

HMSSophia · 22/05/2022 19:41

That cheered me up no end thank you

Rinatinabina · 22/05/2022 19:51

I’ve happened to agree with people on certain points, I may have deeply disliked the person or liked them very much but that is always irrelevant, I either think their argument has merit or I don’t. I wouldn’t claim the sky isn’t blue if Farage said it was just so I don’t “align” myself 🙄. I don’t think I’ve fully agreed with everything DH says/thinks/voted yet still happily married.

This kind of childish thinking is destroying reasonable discourse. It’s pitiful in an adult.

ScreamingMeMe · 22/05/2022 19:56

Ohh i thought that poster meant lots of fans of Tucker Carlson. It's still ridiculous to claim that because people like Posie, they have the same opinion as her on him. This is twitter-level discourse.

TheBiologyStupid · 22/05/2022 20:11

IncompleteSenten · 22/05/2022 18:42

I don't care who is saying it when what they are saying is we need to stop doing this shit to children!

Indeed! As a character in Richard Bach's Illusions replies when mocked for repeating something once said by Snoopy the dog: "I'll quote the truth wherever I find it, thank you". (And since I'm no fan of Richard Bach, I'll rest my case.)

MagnoliaTaint · 22/05/2022 20:33

Yes.

Yes.

I think that level of discussion has become acceptable to some people since Trump. It seems about his intellectual capacity.

MalagaNights · 22/05/2022 21:32

Bill Maher is a democrat and long standing left leaning liberal.

He is however unusual in that he will criticise the left in their current extremism and is not subscribing to a number of the new dogmas.

He's taking a lot of flak for it, as the democrats are currently so wedded to their identity politics ideological positions that if you even criticise you are 'aligned' with transphobes/ misogynists/ white supremacists.

Which is all currently perfectly exhibited on FWR.

I am so pleased though that 90% of the women here are: piss of with your purity spiral.

I think it would have been a different a few years ago and maybe this trans issue has at least had the positive effect of many of us becoming less tribal.
It has for me.

Floisme · 22/05/2022 21:59

It was the Brexit vote that first jolted me out of my tribal thinking. Followed by this. I now think the only way out of this shit show is cross party alliance between women. (This is in the UK - no idea about the US). The left will go apeshit - this thread is just a taste of what it'll be like - and I could not give a stuff.

WalrusSubmarine · 22/05/2022 23:24

It’s much easier to smear the person than argue against what they’re saying. Throw enough mud and hope that no one notices he’s worried about healthy teens becoming lifelong medical patients for vague reasons in unprecedented numbers.

LondonWolf · 22/05/2022 23:41

It doesn't really matter whether you like him or agree with him or whether or not he's Mr Perfect in every area of his life. What matters is he has a huge profile and is using it to speak on these matters. Sunlight is always welcome even if it was pissing down with rain five minutes previously.

This leftist will go apeshit if so called left of centre parties don't wake up and see this 'ideology ' for what it is : an extreme for of Possessive Individualism. As ever , follow the money.

Posie Parker thinks he's 'delightful'.

Posie Parker isn't many people on here, is she? She isn't even one person on here.

And it is quite possible that in person he is "quite delightful". Many people who believe things I think are abhorrent are quite nice in person. And others who believe in some of the same things I do are actually awful, nasty pople. That being human nature.

ScreamingMeMe · 23/05/2022 11:11

Yes, I think you have to have a certain level of charisma to host a TV show, otherwise you'd just be ranting on social media or your own blog.

ScreamingMeMe · 23/05/2022 12:58

And it's not just 'nice', 'good' people who have charisma.

Voting for someone is not 'aligning' oneself with a person

Is someone voting for Bill Maher, when was the election?

FixItUpChappie · 23/05/2022 16:59

"I just refuse to laugh along with a well known/documented misogynist"

I watch his show every week and I just don't agree with this little slice of character assassination. I don't always agree with everything he says but I often find his monologues spot on. I think he would embrace that - anyone who actually watches him know that what he cares most about is the ability to have differing opinions.

After watching the above referenced show, I watched John Oliver advise that anyone who disagrees with giving kids puberty blockers is a "horrible person" as if it was an undisputed fact Hmm. Handily capturing everything that is wrong with our culture IMO.
