I am speechless at the way in which legitimate concerns are being belittled and ignored in Scotland. Nicola Sturgeon hits a new low.

More fool the people of Scotland for voting for her. She is a danger.

AnuSTart · 02/05/2022 06:59

Grim. And she marches ever onwards with her BS.
She is so disappointing. Damn, women who come out with this stuff are ultimately far more disappointing than anyone else.

Igneococcus · 02/05/2022 07:08

Has the interview with the Times that is mentioned been published yet? I can't find it.

TheCurrywurstPrion · 02/05/2022 07:15

”The first minister said she would argue “until my dying breath” that there was no conflict between women’s rights and trans rights”

At this stage, with all that’s going on, this is a truly bizarre stance.

Supersee · 02/05/2022 07:17

Well I won't be voting for her.

TheCurrywurstPrion · 02/05/2022 07:19

Posted too soon. I mean, she goes on to argue that “trans people” (no definition obviously) are a tiny, marginalized group. Both of those are arguments about why “trans rights” should be prioritized over women’s rights. If there’s no conflict , those things are irrelevant.

Beefcurtains79 · 02/05/2022 07:29

““These are the threats against women,” Sturgeon said. “I do not believe that trans rights and women’s rights are or should in any way be in conflict and I will argue that case until my dying breath. And that, I think, is the basis on which we should try to progress this debate.”

She is an absolute disgrace, how are women voting for this worthless dick panderer?

Andsoyedid · 02/05/2022 07:33

What a horrible person. She is no sister . I wish Scotland would wise up and kick her and her pals to the kerb. Sadly ,there isn't much of a decent alternative YET.

tabbycatstripy · 02/05/2022 07:49

‘Sadly ,there isn't much of a decent alternative YET.’

Spoil ballot? I couldn’t put a cross by her name.

SirChenjins · 02/05/2022 07:56

Absolute nonsense - the SNP Govt have done a miserable job of running this country, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. However, they have the indy vote and nothing will stand in the way of that. I hope people will remember her stance on this issue at the ballot box but they won't - just as they won't support Rangers if they're a Celtic fan and vice versa.

I put a share token to where I found it. First article in today's paper. (I read it on an iPad so don't get a paper copy).

I was wondering if there is an actual interview as well @Cismyfatarse Sometimes they have an article where they summarize an interview and then the interview separately but it seems not this time.

Live4weekend · 02/05/2022 08:09

England are wakening up to all that is going on.

She will double down even more now.

She will not fight to her 'dying breath' for this. She will fight to her 'dying death' to be different from England. Woman are just cannon fodder.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/05/2022 08:10

It's just weird. Why is she so overinvested in this ideology? There must be a reason. It's patently nonsensical to "argue to my dying breath" that there is zero conflict between what the trans lobby wants and what many women want. And it's not just about safety, there are other issues.

KangarooKenny · 02/05/2022 08:12

My god, when will these politicians wake up 🤔

Selkiesarereal · 02/05/2022 08:19

It’s quite a sorry state of affairs up here right now. Some people are so blinkered over Indy that they ignore everything else or hoping it will be sorted post Indy.

She is no feminist and hopefully she and her party will be hammered in the elections but I don’t think they will as alternatives are pretty thin on the ground.

mrshoho · 02/05/2022 08:49

I too find it very weird. She's prepared to argue til her dying breath for a group she admits (repeatedly) is a very small minority. I think so many people who vote for her don't fully understand how these laws are going to affect the majority. I don't like the way she and others dismiss the issue as only a matter concerning trans people. It's a devious strategy.

SirChenjins · 02/05/2022 09:04

It’s not weird at all - she relies on the Greens to push through any SNP legislation (another SG joke - remind me how many votes they got and how many seats they hold??) and they are pro-trans, ergo….

TheClitterati · 02/05/2022 09:07

Regarding the dying breath comment. I think this relies on "it's just the same as gay rights" false analogy.

And then this feeds the fear in people who think "oh we were so slow with gay rights we mustn't do the same again". By relying on the false gay rights analogy & the flipside of the coin - that the main objectors are nasty woman who are too bigoted/conservative/English/old/white/etc to see anything that conflicts with their bigoted world views - she is being will fully ignorant.

More than anything this speaks to Nicola Sturgeon having zero feminist game. I mean who are the woman she surrounds herself with? Who are the feminist woman she associates with? It seems pretty inconceivable to me that she has any real feminist associations or discourse.

But it is incredible that she hasn't explored the points that gender critical feminists have been raising. Or if she has explored them that she is able to completely disregard them all without merit. Including putting men into woman's prisons & sports. Medicalising children in the face of increasing evidence showing what a tragic shit show these policies are and the harm they cause children.

It really is very very very strange that someone who leads a country is just so completely blind to our well supported reasoned arguments. I don't think she has ever listed to or considered feminists who challenge here ideological beliefs. She chooses ignorance.

DomesticatedZombie · 02/05/2022 09:07

'til my dying breath' - wtf?

That is genuinely fucking weird, Nicola.

DomesticatedZombie · 02/05/2022 09:09

'In an interview with The Times, Sturgeon refused to define the word “woman”, saying: “I’m not going to, I’m just not going to get into this debate at a level that’s about simplified and lurid headlines.”

So, can't, then. Won't even try. If you can't define your terms your words are meaningless.

DomesticatedZombie · 02/05/2022 09:10

Also:

'[Sturgeon] spoke of “an assault that is worse than possibly any time in my lifetime on abortion rights” after Florida brought in a ban on most terminations after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
“These are the threats against women,” Sturgeon said.'

We're no in Florida, Nicola.

DomesticatedZombie · 02/05/2022 09:11

I like and respect my local SNP councillor, but on the back of these comments I will not be able to vote for them in the elections this week.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/05/2022 09:16

Its truly disturbing how easily people like her have been conned into believing middle aged white males are somehow the most oppressed people on the planet.

The sad truth is one day she will find out just what she has done. She may be in a position right now where none of it will ever affect her. But that won't last forever.

When she's old and in a home and vulnerable suffering from.dementia or weak as as shes had a stroke and her dignity is removed by being unable to have a female carer, then maybe it will sink in.

littlbrowndog · 02/05/2022 09:34

Maybe we need to have another referendum then when she gets a no she will clear off
what’s with the dying breath thing. Weird and uneccsary.

the ferries the Gupta steel education gap nhs. Drugs deaths

she never defended Joanna cherry. Maybe sturgeon should have defended her to her dying breath

jeez sturgeon what’s to be proud off
