Transwoman claims Tampax have offered sponsorship

Dylan, currently on 'Day 47 of being a girl' claims Tampax have been in touch.

www.instagram.com/p/CbiQWjUpXXd/

Why?

'Dylan was using a public restroom when a fellow woman called out if she had a tampon, Dylan shyly replying ‘no’.
Afterwards, she decided to buy some to keep in the house and in her purse for all her girlfriends, ending the video with “women support women.” It seemed that Tampax were quite interested in working with Dylan afterwards. What an incredible outcome!'

@nightwakingmoon thank you for that! Lots of detail I was not aware of myself. Hope your post manages to stay this time

We have monitors who like to control what women can and can't say. They can and do make reports - it used to be the case you didn't even need to be a Mumsnet member to report a post, not sure if that's still true.

But if certain words are used, or if enough reports/allegations are made, sometimes posts get deleted.

I think that's a shame and hope that this thread doesn't get deleted. I went back to this article today to see if Tampax has made any statement but there is nothing there yet. I DID notice that comments are not deleted there, not even the threats to the author. adland.tv/adnews/did-tampax-really-reach-out-dylan-mulvaney-collaboration-tiktok

@nightwakingmoon thank you again - your posts are bloody brilliant!

I don’t think the problem is Dylan here and it is counterproductive if anyone posts anything attacking them as all that will happen is that all of our space to discuss this - poof disappears!!!

The real concern is that a major manufacturer of women’s sanitary products may have considered employing a transwoman - biologically male in an advertising campaign. Which as Dylan appeared to agree is the height of madness.

So I hope Tampax are able to explain themselves… personally I never used them anyway but I would avoid now after this.

Fatsdominosdomino · 05/05/2022 16:10

I agree with you.

I googled Dylan as I wanted to learn more about them, as I had never heard of them and they seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. There are articles on The Skimm and Good Morning America about them and their TikTok. That's a lot of PR for someone unknown.

Sorry, I thought I had managed to quote you. I meant to say that yes, I agree with you here, completely. The real concern is that Tampax considered this.

@DomesticatedZombie
My body forced a sneeze out before allowing me adequate time to put my mug down. I was covered in coffee and one of the dogs was traumatised by the combination of sneezing and swearing. I feel so violated by me. 😥

Mandodari · 05/05/2022 17:04

@Fatsdominosdomino
I just read the responses. I loved the comment that applicators are needed for women with short fingers. Why do I get the impression that that was written by someone who has and never will need sanpro.

Furries · 05/05/2022 23:46

I may have missed it, but where is the proof that Tampax even considered this? I mean, Dylan might SAY that it’s a mad idea. But Dylan could just be very clever at generating social media interest.

Happy to be corrected. But it seems to be that Dylan is playing to a large SM audience with a hefty dose of “gee, little old me” thrown in for good measure.

imagine that level of “ingenuity” if full-on self-ID becomes the norm.

Am waiting for the one brave TW to go public with proof of their periods (in a parallel universe).

ScreamingMeMe · 06/05/2022 08:05

I'm still of the opinion that Dylan is a troll.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/05/2022 08:26

Isn't it.

Not a troll, a self publicist happy to become famous on the backs of women whilst happy to make a mockery of everything we are.

Robinni · 06/05/2022 09:05

Wouldn’t it make more sense to generate a collective letter to Tampax to ask them what is going on? Before trying to pin the blame on Dylan. You don’t have to like them but fabricating ideas about their motivations without facts to determine their validity is putting cart before horse.

ScreamingMeMe · 06/05/2022 09:07

Of course Tampax didn't approach Dylan. He's clearly on a wind-up and attention seeking and he's getting exactly what he wanted. 🙄

ScreamingMeMe · 06/05/2022 09:11

It's up to the person who made the claim to provide evidence, not for Tampax to prove a negative. Of course they don't want to get involved in this batshittery. How many times have we said on here that we wish companies would just ignore TRAs and It's the best thing to do?

Artichokeleaves · 06/05/2022 09:13

I get really tired of 'let this person say outrageous, insulting and offensive things without consequence because....'

No. If you want to exercise your right say very stupid things on social media, that are offensive and ridiculous, you also have to be prepared for others to exercise their right to tell you what they think.

Women aren't mummy. They're not a professional organisation with responsibility to go check all the facts carefully before they decide that they have sufficient grounds to get pissed off and say so. I am done with this whole power imbalance and the expectation that male people can just be loose canons but female people mustn't react until they've ticked a whole lot of good girl boxes first.

No. Frankly female people have very little left to lose now.

Robinni · 06/05/2022 09:25

Erm I’m not looking to check boxes….

I’m just personally pissed off that Tampax haven’t either

a) taken ownership for what they’ve done
b) explained they never tried to work with Dylan , and never would.

Because it is pussyfooting around the whole issue… the primary people Tampax should be supporting are women.

And I care more about their response because they are a multi million pound company with a 29% market share for tampons…. So if they start behaving like not offending trans people is more important than standing up for women this is a very bad thing.

People can get their knickers in a twist about Dylan all day long. But they have very little sway overall. I’m interested in what the big guns have to say for themselves. It’s more important.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/05/2022 11:58

Well, this much smaller company which sells period products thisisl.com/ did a paid partnership with non-binary male person Jeffrey Marsh. So it's not like we can take it for granted that Tampax wouldn't.

From their website
"At L. we are working to highlight the beautiful diversity of people who have periods and their mission to make space for voices"

Oh fu*k right off.

Robinni · 06/05/2022 12:08

What product were they endorsing? Transwomen have no need of tampons and it is biologically impossible that they get symptoms akin to women - they have no womb!! The world has gone mad.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/05/2022 12:09

Said diversity does not include Jeffrey and never will. Not even when JM wears JM's they/them earrings.

lovelyweathertoday · 28/04/2022 18:47

Let me remember all those times I've heard women in toilets calling out for spare sanitary products.

... never ...

I know right?! Boggles my head.

In the pictures I've seen, JM poses with a pack of liners, and a pack of winged pads.

Here is JM holding a pack of 42 pads with wings.

This is just idiotic… America has a lot to answer for. What an absolute mess.
