The twitter account for the theatre group behind the Family Sex Show (@ThisEgg_) has revealed that there are performances planned of the Family Sex Show despite the cancellation of the national tour and they are looking for more venues to take them on.
It seems that the Bath performance(s) is/are running.

@capncrunch We will have to disagree on that.

@capncrunch We will have to disagree on that.

You should follow libsoftiktok on twitter, it's shocking how widespread this is.

Reported you for homophobia, capncrunch.

Oh, do they?! 🤔 Have you got any evidence for this, please?

I'm far from being homophobic, I'm just concerned about the safety of young children 😡

I just caught a few minutes of The Jeremy Vine Show on channel 5 when I was visiting someone this morning. They were discussing this. Jeremy and his sidekick Storm seemed to think this show was an interesting idea and that the problem was the name of the show.

DomesticatedZombie · 20/04/2022 12:01

Well perhaps you need to phrase your sentences far more carefully, capncrunch, because that statement was pure homophobia.

That sounds like the assessment from people who had not carried out any due diligence as to the background of the story.

Insert Vine and Storm into this gif.

Milli Hill has tweeted The School of Sexuality were put forward as 'sensitivity readers' for her book My Period.

She read their website (including the archived link above from Clymene) and refused.

UsernameNotAvailableHmm · 20/04/2022 12:23

I watched the Jeremy Vine Show too. Jeremy Vine and co seemed to be oblivious as to the exact content of The Family Sex Show and, yes, simply gathered that the problem was in the name of the show. Surely they are given an idea as to what they will be talking about on the show, on the day, so they can read up/research about it and express a knowledgeable view. It was like somebody had suddenly sprung this subject on them, nobody had a clue as to what The Family Sex Show was all about. They did, however, know that there had been many complaints about it and that the creators had received abuse over it. What a waste of airtime dedicated to this subject, most of which was spent laughing at Carole Malone coughing and her needing to suck a sweet, rather than talking about the finer details of this show. So, to conclude, we don't know anything about The Family Sex Show, other than there have been complaints and Carole has a cough.

Sofasogoood · 20/04/2022 12:29

Are we allowed to use the term gr**mer on here?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 20/04/2022 12:33

So this was supposed to be an educational show, and education justified all.

So why, may I ask, is a female character singing about not being able to find her own clitoris, and why is another (alto) voice interjecting that the clitoris is wet and warm?

not only does this show seem inappropriate, judging from everything I’ve read about it - including the song above - it is also shit.
if nothing else this has saved loads of people a couple of hours of their life that they’d never get back.

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2022 13:55

Anyone, bass voice or otherwise, singing that penis song in the presence of a child should be arrested.

PlantingTrees · 20/04/2022 14:06

Fucking hell!!! That song is not appropriate for five year olds!

Misstache · 20/04/2022 14:16

Re: the masturbating animals. I’m just trying to picture this interaction with your child after this activity. Like, in fairness, they didn’t say you actually should draw the animal masturbating, but still.

child: look at my drawing mummy!
mother: oh that’s lovely sweetheart. Is it a zoo? I see a dog, a cat…
child: no, silly, it’s not a zoo. These are all the animals that masturbate!

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2022 14:43

Yes, and: It isn't just that the child is going to do Googling and then draw the "zoo" on ther own, bad enough that is. The whole plan is patently that (especially with very small children, who would need help reading the words obviously) an adult jollies and helps them through the workbooks and suggested activities on the website. It's a very very small step indeed from "let's draw a penis" to "would you like to see my penis", or "can I see your penis". And given the "penis song" it is then then no step at all to "can I touch your penis" and "would you like to touch my penis"...

theDudesmummy · 20/04/2022 14:50

The number of people I have met who were abused under the guise of "education", both in schools and in other settings, would probably astonish and distress some people on here.

Not everyone, I would wager. There are some people on these threads who know very well what is going on here and how common it is (either because they are a survivor, or a professional). The difference in this case is that it is IN PUBLIC AND PUBLICALLY FUNDED.

Sexually abusive "education" in private is as old as the hills. I see people to whom it happened in the 1950s, and every decade since. This is however a shocking development.

You are right, it’s not even educational or sex positive, setting aside the (non) question of its suitability for five year olds.

The message seems to be “the clitoris is complicated and difficult, everyone just forget about it and pay attention to the penis instead.”

You're both so right.

The term clitoris doesn't need to be laden with cultural baggage when taught to children. Otherwise that (penis centric, male pleasure centred, shame based) culture is just perpetuated.

The site about the show also smells of prioritising male concerns and male sexuality. We are reminded, in bold print, that not only women have vulvas and that not all women haved a vulva, but we are not reminded about anything in the discussion of penises (penii?). So men get to keep the penis and also get the vulva.

And clitoris in this song is described by someone who doesn't have one.

Misstache · 20/04/2022 18:03

Why does the end of the song say “touch it where you want to NOW.” Are they telling kids to start masturbating in the theatre?

And yes, it’s notable that after the women talk about the clitoris, the authorative bass male voice has to jump in about his penis and totally take over. The women “can’t find” the clitoris but the men can touch their genitals!

Seems transphobic! Shouldn’t the soprano have a penis? Maybe the bass voice has a girl penis! How dare they assume bass voice means penis!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 20/04/2022 19:36

It's very heteronormative. Could have had a woman say she would show singer 2!

IcakethereforeIam · 20/04/2022 19:50

Have they tried looking under the sofa cushions, that's where I always find things.
