Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Women don’t know they’re women unless they test their chromosomes, says Stonewall

Telegraph article freely accessible at the link. It looks like more co-opting of intersex to forge ahead with getting to the point where gender identity trumps sex.

mobile.twitter.com/Obsolesence/status/1515379847580823559

From the article:

"The session began by setting out the definition for intersex people, who fall outside societal expectations of the male-female binary. Staff were told: “Most people do not have their chromosomes tested, so many of us don’t actually know what they are.”
It is widely understood that for the vast majority, males have XY chromosomes and females XX, a biological process of DNA in egg cells when fertilisation occurs, however, some intersex people can rarely have a mixture.
A source who attended the session, titled “First steps to LGBTQ+ inclusion”, said it was also discussed how intersex people, who form less than two per cent of the population, may have both sets of genitals. The session materials referred to “sex assigned at birth”, rather than birth sex."

And more on the silencing of those who understand and apply the real law:

"an HR worker at Bristol, told The Telegraph she had to write a letter of apology after trans activists on a staff equality committee walked out last year over her defence of the word “maternity” in university policies.
While the word ultimately stayed, she said she was subject to a three-month informal probe when staff complained about the “problematic” and “exclusionary” term and said she had been offensive by stating only biological women can give birth.
“There is a culture of fear on campus. Female professor friends and I are scared to even talk about women’s rights in public spaces near the university,” she said. “We speak in hushed tones looking over our shoulders.”"

Does this mean we'll all need chromosome tests before entering women's spaces, giving birth, participating in women's sport, being in women's prison?
This is going to be interesting Grin

Hang on.

So we are told if if someone says they are a man or woman that we accept that even if the externally appear to be the opposite.

But what if someone who says that although they have the outward markers of being one sex that actually are the opposite but a chromosome test proves that they are the sex they were assigned at birth, what then?

Ooooo yes

We can’t be accused of anything then cos you know chromosomes

OvaHere · 17/04/2022 15:26

It's probably a pivot towards more gas lighting.

There's been an uptick in clearly male people, some who have fathered children claiming they are a type of intersex rather than just trans.

What is useful about that of course is that a test on one's chromosomes no matter the result falls under confidential medical information. So in theory you can claim whatever you like and not be forced to prove it publicly.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 17/04/2022 15:26

I mean I would never be so crude as to suggest that anyone needs chromosome checks .... but if Stonewall are recommending it, then perhaps we may have to reconsider Grin

So this week trans activists have recommended gender critical women's only toilets, changing room, hospital wards, sports etc. That could work?

Chromosome checks to ascertain whether or not we're really women...

Anything else from upside down land?? They're proving to be surprisingly entertaining at the moment with their flailing contradictory batshit theories.

Igneococcus · 17/04/2022 15:30

I got a lab, a suitable microscope and the required skill (thought it's probably two decades since I've done a karyogram), I'll check once I'm back at work on Tuesday.
I have given birth twice but that might not be enough evidence.

TheBiologyStupid · 17/04/2022 15:33

Once we've all had our chromosomes checked perhaps we should announce and use them instead of pronouns - much more reliable and stable... Is that what Stonewall wants?

SpeedofaSloth · 17/04/2022 15:37

Well, I seem to produce the large gametes based on DS and DD's existence, so I think I will pass on the chromosome test this time TBH.

turbonerd · 17/04/2022 15:37

Fucking hell.

Just last week I happened upon my country’s equivalent to Stonewall, and somehow it seemed even crazier to hear/read it in my own language.

Everything was parroted, and I also learned that trans-stuff is now under sexual health.
Why?
Well, now I can see why - what with it being sooo difficult to know your sex that you really should Get your chromosomes tested. Even after multiple years of being a woman, without even ever having thought of identifying as one!
How did we manage to live?

NotBadConsidering · 17/04/2022 15:39

@LittleWhingingWoman

Stonewall are doing a great job of showing themselves to be utterly batshit. Does NK think she will ever get another job after this all hits the fan?
Well her predecessor Ruth Hunt talked shite for years and ended up in the House of Lords, so there is a precedent there for Nancy to aspire to.
Aposterhasnoname · 17/04/2022 15:43

Well I for one am glad to hear that stonewall agree that chromosomes are what makes one male or female. We now have a way of testing athletes to determine which sex class they should compete in, offenders to determine prisons etc. I’m sure stonewall will be happy to push for this.

Organictangerine · 17/04/2022 15:43

@TheBiologyStupid

Exactly.

When people try to conflate trans/intersex, I just say if every trans person had their chromosomes tested, are you certain 100% of them have undiagnosed DSDs?

Of course they fucking don’t.

The intersex thing actually goes against trans ideology which is that ‘gender’ (which defines whether you are a man or woman) is completely independent of sex, so rushing to say there’s a chance transwomen have an extra dash of female chromosome almost makes it feel like they do know biology plays a part after all…

OceanAtTheEnd · 17/04/2022 15:44

@TheAbbotOfUnreason

So transwomen are women because they feel all womanly, but women need to check their chromosomes before they can call themselves women?

Riiiiiight.

It's baffling, isn't it Confused.
sophienelisse · 17/04/2022 15:46

I'm pretty sure I don't need to test what with having a baby a few years ago and periods you know.
I mean I am 100% sure she came out of my vagina.

But if I need a test to confirm Hmm

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 17/04/2022 15:47

So men are whatever they say they are but women need their chromosomes tested?

Idiots
The continued expansion of the human race is a clear indicator that humans can identify someone of the opposite sex to them quite easily with absolutely no chromosome checking.

MarshmallowSwede · 17/04/2022 15:49

I just had a baby. Wait until I tell my husband we can’t truly be sure I’m a woman until I do this test.

These people are fucking insane!

GingerPCatt · 17/04/2022 15:53

Shit - someone better warn men to start using birth control because who know who could end up pregnant!!!

tabbycatstripy · 17/04/2022 15:58

Intersex people are nowhere near 2% of the population. That is 1/50 people. The estimate I get from basic research online is 100th of that (1/5000 people).

Which, considering I’ve never met anyone who describes themselves in this way, and never come across anyone who says they were having sex with someone and they realised the other person had both a penis and a vagina, sounds a bit more feasible.

Obviously I realise people with DSDs might be likely not to tell others, or casually get naked, for privacy reasons. But if it was as common as 2% we wouldn’t even be talking about it, it would be a well-known and understood facet of human life.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 17/04/2022 16:07

@sophienelisse

I'm pretty sure I don't need to test what with having a baby a few years ago and periods you know. I mean I am 100% sure she came out of my vagina.

But if I need a test to confirm Hmm

But in Stonewall land men can have vaginas, so pushing a baby out of said vagina means that you could be a man or a woman.

Do you feel like a woman? That seems to be the only applicable test for the XY part of the population?

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 17/04/2022 16:12

Intersex people are nowhere near 2% of the population.

I think the figures were skewed by conditions appearing later in life (PCOS and LOAH type conditions) that are not DSD conditions. The real figure is more like 0.2%.

Lovelydovey · 17/04/2022 16:13

I’ve had periods since 11, given birth and breastfed. Pretty sure I’m female. But I can’t remember the last time I wore a skirt or lipstick. Never had my chromosomes tested. Still pretty sure I’m a woman.

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/04/2022 16:14

So is being a woman biology or not then?

If women can have xy chromosomes then what's the point even of the test ?

What is a woman stonewall?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 17/04/2022 16:18

Just talking to DSis about this. She said - so Stonewall reckon that the only way a woman can prove they are a woman is with a chromosome test. But any man can prove he is a woman by saying "I am a woman". Erm, OK. Seems right to me!

And they think we are the ones who are fucking stupid!

Artichokeleaves · 17/04/2022 16:33

What is a woman stonewall?

Clue: (and to paraphrase a line from one of the many excellent articles last week) It's the class of people really, really pissed off with all this bullshit.
