Women's cycling - major sponsor pulls out as policies are not 'trans inclusive'

A new major sponsor is being sought to ensure that the 6th Women’s CiCLE Classic and 8th Junior Men’s edition of the race can go ahead as planned, following the decision of longstanding sponsor Pete Stanton to withdraw his sponsorship of the races...due to the decision to not include trans atheletes.

I hadn't thought about the trans activism behind sponsorships deals that fund women's sport that must go on behind the scenes but here is an example laid bare. The men's races are not under threat just the women's races of course.

It's so heartening to see women bravely starting to speak out in the face of the industrial scale gaslighting that's happened.

Poor Laura, that must be an awful experience to go through.

I'm so pleased she's spoken about women's sport. I can't see any negative reaction yet. It will be very difficult to attack her - she is a national treasure and it's clear that we'd lose medals if TW compete. Even if we don't, it's so clear that the public are not on board with males in female sports. I can't see the overwhelming majority ever being happy with such a prospect.

The New Forest Off Road Club apparently “host women led group rides that are free for all to join and we also run mechanic classes. We believe that confident, empowered women improve all spaces they occupy.”

Sounds more like you’ll turn and find males there learning to become “confident, empowered women”.

Transitioning males are not banned from competing though are they? And I imagine the same is true for the androgynous and for transitioning females?

They are allowed to compete in their sex category?

They are banned from competing in some of the races not all of them?

I find the reporting sometimes confusing...

Anyway, looks like the fundraiser went well. I did worry about the last 5%... after the first few days, it's hard to get donors.

They have made £20 000. The average was £40 odd. They must be very pleased. I hope the longer term sponsorship comes off.
