Women's cycling - major sponsor pulls out as policies are not 'trans inclusive'

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 13/04/2022 08:26

Helen joice has just put this up on twitter.
A new major sponsor is being sought to ensure that the 6th Women’s CiCLE Classic and 8th Junior Men’s edition of the race can go ahead as planned, following the decision of longstanding sponsor Pete Stanton to withdraw his sponsorship of the races...due to the decision to not include trans atheletes.

  • A man tries to use his money to force women to accept transwomen in women's races.
I hadn't thought about the trans activism behind sponsorships deals that fund women's sport that must go on behind the scenes but here is an example laid bare. The men's races are not under threat just the women's races of course.

This is why British Cycling has a problem with born males taking women's places in cycling:

www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/20171129-Home-Page-British-Cycling-pledges-support-to-Stonewall-s-Rainbow-Laces-campaign-0

A quick look at their "Diversity & Inclusion" Advisory Group has countless grifters earning good money from D & I work - with the mark of Stonewall all over it.

This is replicated in every sporting body and why we're in this unbelievable mess with sport becoming a science and fact free zone - but only on relation to women's sport of course Confused

Rowlingfan · 16/04/2022 15:17

Just donated. It’s a disgrace that women have been put in this position. How dare Pete Stanton attempt to bully and undermine women’s participation in competitive sport? Because he can.

Good luck to the competitors.

It's certainly difficult to understand how that Advisory Group would be open to a plurality of perspectives or disagreements about the merit's of York's research.

Apologies for the lack of editing that put the apostrophe into "merits." Blush

@SamphirethePogoingStickerist

Against men?
No, not against men. I’m sure they’re very grateful that they don’t have to race the men. But they maybe would rather the race didn’t become a stage for protests as well, especially as BC look as though they may start listening.

Makes it difficult to continue to argue that rainbow laces and points on the chart etc etc are just lovely neutral things instead of busily stacking the dice to ensure bias and prejudice against women and the active suppression of their rights and equality in favour of male feelings and desires.

Which makes it flat out political capture, and by an anti-women group and agenda.

Plain sight.

Runningslow · 16/04/2022 15:24

I see from that link above that BC staff were raising money in 2017 for the Proud Trust - suppliers of the infamous Dice Game iirc.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/04/2022 15:36

That's why the comments upthread about not wanting the funding to be "political" is so hypocritical. Stonewall are all over sport like a rash pushing their anti women vitriol. Remember swimming decreeing that men self identifying as women must have access to other women's naked bodies in changing rooms?

ControversialOpening · 16/04/2022 15:40

On a more positive note Paris-Roubaix has just been won by Longo Borghini.
It wasn't as much fun as last years mudfest, but she did a smart ride and took her opportunity beautifully.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 16/04/2022 15:45

Donated.

Runningslow · 16/04/2022 15:54

Crowdfund nearly up to £4000 already Smile

Plasmodesmata · 16/04/2022 16:35

One rider was DQ in Paris Roubaix for the good old "sticky bottle" when coming back from a mechanical. Many rules to prevent cheating are strictly followed. But....

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/04/2022 16:49

What does that mean Plasmodesmata The "sticky bottle"? Is it illegal substances in the water bottle?

You go to the team car to get a bottle and they don't let go as you (the rider) hang onto it. It looks like the bottle is stuck to their hand, but in effect your just getting a wee tow. Doesn't sound like much but can make a difference and is cheating: you've got an advantage that others don't have.
Thetailfeather · 16/04/2022 16:58

You're, not your

SweatyChamoisPad · 16/04/2022 16:59

A sticky bottle is a tongue in cheek remark made when a rider goes to the team car to pick up drinking bottles and spends that little bit too long holding on to the bottle at the same time as the director sportif. Over here it would be known as “cadging a lift”!

SweatyChamoisPad · 16/04/2022 17:00

Ah you beat me to it @Thetailfeather! 😁

Plasmodesmata · 16/04/2022 17:57

Often overlooked a bit if a rider is trying to get back to the peloton after a mechanical, there's a fine line between a bit of a tow and holding on for ages and taking the piss.
Too many TV cameras about to get away with it any more.

Plasmodesmata · 16/04/2022 18:01

43% funded from 173 donations when I just looked now. It'll get there, no problems - like we said at the time, there are a lot of women (and possibly even some men) who will chip in a bit for a fair race.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/04/2022 18:11

Thank you all for the explanation.

Vargas · 16/04/2022 21:30

More than 50% of the way there...

61% funded.

I think the point has been made. Women won’t stand back and let this happen anymore

Bettygirl · 17/04/2022 11:57

The whole thing smacks of men telling women, we allowed you to have some rights, we can quiet as easily take them away.

334bu · 17/04/2022 12:26

Is it only the women's race that this person sponsored? Did they also withdraw sponsorship from the men's race?
