Gosh, she really hates women doesn’t she?

TheCurrywurstPrion · 11/04/2022 07:01

Well yes. Those who have no arguments do tend to use lazy slurs.

nauticant · 11/04/2022 07:55

If the Conservatives lose the next General Election, one likely outcome is a Labour-SNP coalition government. If we get that, then both parts will feel that after years to employing trans activism they'll have massive debts to pay to trans activists. My blood runs cold when I think about the kinds of new laws we might get.

“These gentle, hardworking women are being portrayed as if they are inherently dangerous. It couldn’t be further from the truth,”

Well they are not women so that bit is not true

As for "inherently dangerous" they are just being portrayed as being the same danger as any other males so occasionally a bit of sensible safeguarding is applied.

RoyalCorgi · 11/04/2022 08:11

Gentle and hardworking? Like this lovely lady, for example?

Lorna Slater’s rant helping to take the heat out of the debate! Are the Scottish Greens so terrified of women asking questions and talking about scientific facts that they need them to be silenced? She sounds dangerous and not fit to be an MSP.

‘She has called for feminists who oppose the legal changes to be censored after claims that false balance is being introduced to the argument.

The BBC “only recently stopped putting on climate deniers because they required balance”, Slater said. “We wouldn’t put balance on the question of racism or antisemitism, but we allow this fictional notion of balance when it comes to anti-trans [views]. The whole thing is disgusting.”

I’m disgusted at the level of intolerance in the Scottish Greens.

Linguini · 11/04/2022 08:30

I really don't think these sorts of arguments make the Scot Greens look good. It makes them look nuts.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 11/04/2022 08:31

Censored? She wants women who say human beings cannot change sex to be censored?

If she publicly equates stating biological facts with bigoted ideology then is also going to publicly apologise when forced to see the end product if her idiocy?

The balance is about those transwomen, as linked to, who give the lie to gentle etc. Just like any other violent man!

JennyPourQuoi · 11/04/2022 08:39

Most frustrating of all is that the trans issue is one where there clearly are multiple sides and multiple view points. We need to talk about women's spaces, and about how society should handle trans kids. There is obviously nuance here.

I don't expect the media to always have a 100% GC person on every time, but it's clearly not false balance to have on a normal person who thinks "Well, they can please themselves in their own lives but lets not transition 4 year olds". And yet they cant have such dangerous ideas being voiced.

Off her trolley. And bloody abusive.

Also, I'd love to know where all these $$$$ from right-wing Americans are going. Not my bank account, that's for sure.

AryaStarkWolf · 11/04/2022 10:29

"transphobia" is the only type of phobia/ism that needs to mention what it's like every time to strengthen it up. You never here people have to explain what Racism or homophpbia is "like" it's enough to just say it on it's own. I wonder why that is? .............

5zeds · 11/04/2022 10:39

The assumption that everyone who is gc is just a meanie who doesn’t know any of the “nice trans people” is ludicrous. I grow so tired of people assuming you must be ignorant just because you hold a different view to them.

Isn't it amazing that an elected representative can make a claim like that without any evidence at all? It makes her seem deranged.
MangyInseam · 11/04/2022 13:42

Given that people like John McWhorter and even Trevor Phillips are considered racists these days, I'm not sure that's an accusation that has a lot of force.

Which is too bad but thems the breaks.

SwissBall · 11/04/2022 13:47

I will probably get deleted and/or banned for asking this, but is Lorna Slater trans? It’s the voice and height rather than anything else.

Well "elected representative" might be debatable. The Greens got 1.8 % of the constituency vote and 8% of the list vote.

A party with 8 % of the vote is dictating policy in exchange for propping up the separatists.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 16:33

Comment on teh Times article:

'she came fifth (out of five) in her constituency with 1,721 votes'

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 16:44

And this is on wiki, can't find a reference, though:

' in 2019 Slater came third in the selection for the Green Party's Lothian list. Alison Johnstone got 191 first votes, Andy Wightman got 133 votes and Slater got 36 votes. '

Slater is not trans, but has this to say on her own feelings about 'gender'

twitter.com/lornaslater/status/1270956807176028165

As an autistic person (former girl) who has struggled with gender issues, I can assure you that there is a world of difference between being autistic and struggling with gender issues and being trans. Although, it would have been a comfort to me as a child to be able to discuss

and explore these matters, rather than just being told I was doing 'girl' wrong. If there was no stigma around being trans, we could have had those kind of conversations. If we allowed kids to express who they are without fear, we could get rid of the stigma. #TransAlly

As an autistic person I've leaned to 'perform' to conform and that includes having to 'perform' my gender so as to help make other people more comfortable. That is what forcing gender conformance on autistic children is. Giving us one more thing we have to do to make you feel OK.

The ironic thing here is that neurotypical people are also performing gender, but because they do it based on unconscious cue that they pick up, they aren't conscious of doing it. Autistic people don't pick up these cues, we have to consciously decide how to

perform our gender. Not surprising then that autistic people are more likely to challenge gender assumptions; we literally have to think about it in a way that neurotypical people don't. Neurotypical people think they just 'are' their gender.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 16:58

Frankly, Lorna - how dare you?

ditalini · 11/04/2022 17:03

I am fairly neurotypical but I've been aware of "performing" gender my whole life. I think most women are extremely aware - it's not like there's no consequences when you slip.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 17:06

100% ditalini. It's an utter insult to pretend women aren't completely aware of gender, what it expects and demands of us, every fucking minute of every day.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 17:06

As if Lorna has some special insight.
