So instead of fighting the gender norms, like many women have done and do, she consciously chose to 'perform' her gender, and then seems to think she's doing it to make other people feel better.

Yay, what a feminist! If only women just performed their gender better, we wouldn't have all this nonsense of women's rights Hmm

DomesticatedZombie · 11/04/2022 20:39

Yes. Very good point. Thats what she's saying - she's cognisant of sexism and consciously works to uphold it.

Igneococcus · 12/04/2022 11:53

I'm not sure if this has been shared anywhere yet. Alex Massie's comment in the Times:

Oh, it seems to have done the token Smile

334bu · 12/04/2022 20:12

Being discussed on the Nine BBC Scotland tonight.

Indiana2021 · 12/04/2022 20:22

Another one promoted beyond her abilities.

She has a child like view of the world, but the SNP would have agreed to anything to get their coalition govt.

Nicola's got a lot to answer for.

HirplesWithHaggis · 12/04/2022 20:36

@334bu

Being discussed on the Nine BBC Scotland tonight.
With India Willoughby, apparently.
DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 12/04/2022 21:04

DomesticatedZombie your post about performing gender norms has really helped me to understand what is going on for autistic people. Thank you.

Voice0fReason · 12/04/2022 21:26

The expectation to perform your gender is exactly what gender critical people are trying to challenge.
It's the stupid expectations that are the problem.
So rather than tell an autistic girl that they are trans if they don't feel they can perform femininity, we tell them that no performance is required, that they are perfect just the way they are and whichever they want to be a girl or woman is absolutely fine.

N0RKS · 12/04/2022 21:47

Idiot

@SwissBall

I will probably get deleted and/or banned for asking this, but is Lorna Slater trans? It’s the voice and height rather than anything else.
I don't think so but I've always had an "off" vibe about her, like she's not what she seems. That may well be down to the gender "performance" mentioned above.
334bu · 12/04/2022 22:57

Some wild, unfounded accusations being thrown around by IW. So much for respectful debate.

  • the post above that was Lorna Slater's quote? It's not my quote! Sorry, I've omitted to put quotation marks ...
DomesticatedZombie · 12/04/2022 23:28

That clip is gold! Well done, India! Grin

DomesticatedZombie · 12/04/2022 23:31

'it's all lies ... these people stand shoulder to shoulder with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, The Heritage Foundation'

Grin

And we came from OUTER SPACE!!!

Gosh, they really should have more trans women on air, they're really doing our work for us, especially contrasted by normal sounding women on the other side
Igneococcus · 13/04/2022 06:22

Unsurprisingly, Patrick Harvey backs Lorna:

Thanks for link.

Rightsraptor · 13/04/2022 07:10

I Googled Lorna Slater after hearing her speak. I'd had no idea she's Canadian, from British Colombia no less. That explains a lot. And she's an engineer, so you might imagine she'd be more sympathetic to the concept of gender non-conformity. But apparently not.

SallyLockheart · 13/04/2022 07:49

India Willoughby, Grace Lavery, Veronica Ivy. You really couldn’t make up the batshittery the come out with. Letting them speak just shows they can’t defend there position in a reasoned way without resorting to outlandish claims and attacks..
