Had a conversation a few weeks ago around feminism and womens rights and my friend, an A level Biology teacher, said categorically that trans men WERE women.

I was so shocked and upset I didn't feel like arguing, but what can I say as we'll almost certainly have the conversation again. We both have daughters and we were talking about the Girl Guiding trans leader.

@Musomama1

Sorry I've written it before recently but this is why we need a language roll back.

It would be much harder for your friend to say a 'transsexual man is a woman'.

Abso-bloody-lutely.

The confusion has in part been caused by language. Misogyny and male entitlement are also part of the picture as is lack of critical thinking by some people who imagine that all trans women look like an actual woman and behave like an actual woman (I'm talking about things like risks here as I don't believe there is any other way to behave 'like a woman').

But yes, whoever decided that transwoman was the right terminology is culpable. That said, they may be horrified at how it has been misused.

I was taught Biology in the 1960s by a nun who wasn’t allowed by the Catholic Church to accept Darwin’s Theory. We did that as independent study from the textbook. My religious upbringing taught me that even the most intelligent people will believe any old utter tosh, justify it to themselves and proselytise about it.
